I thought this was interesting...the SEC has historically been the strongest conference, but hasn't produced many Heisman (or other award) winners. I guess it's difficult to stand out if the competition is stiff.

Those awards are like beauty contests and the Media centers of Chicago and LA have an inordinate amount of pull. If NYC paid any attention to College Football there would be tons of awards going to players within their immediate market area. Before anybody says Rutgers, let me say the demise of Syracuse has been Rutgers gain.
Anyway, I'm a USC fan and George Rogers won the Heisman because USC beat Michigan in the big house in 1981. Had he not impressed the Chicago writers he never would have won.

Look at Manning in '97...he shoulda won...but ESPN decided to promote Woodson because he played for BigX Meatchicken...Woodson had a big game vs OSU and won it...ESPN decides who they want to win it, shoves there stats down your throat, puts their picture in every commercial...and the voters do the rest.

How could Manning not have won it in '97? I completely forgot about that one! He's probably gonna be the best QB in football history....what a HUGE oversight.
