Dandy Don reports that it appears by the end of this week Les Miles might be looking for two new coaches. Jimbo Fisher will interview today for the UAB job and will likely receive an offer to coach the Blazers. LSU wide receiver coach Todd Monken will interview for the LA Tech job today or Friday.
UAB is going to roll out the red carpet to impress Coach Fisher. Fisher will receive a guarantee from the school president and board of supervisors that major improvements will be made in the football operations including repairs and additions to the stadium and an increase in pay for Jimbo Fisher and his assistant coaches. UAB will present Fisher a very attractive package, but it might not be enough to keep him from accepting the offensive coordinators job at FSU. AT FSU, Fisher would work a few years under Bobby Bowden with hopes of becoming the head coach when Bowden retires, but I doubt that FSU is willing to give Fisher a guarantee of replacing Bowden in writing. In my opinion, the downside of accepting the head coaching job at UAB is that it will take Fisher at least three or four years to turn the program around and get himself in position to land a head coaching job at a major 1-A school.
It does appears certain that Fisher will not return to LSU. There have been numerous reports that Les Miles will not give Fisher complete control of the offense during practice and game day play calling, and that is why Fisher wants to leave. The offense has been very successful the last seven years under Jimbo Fisher and the play calling and formations since Les Miles has been the head coach look the same to me. I believe the number one reason why Fisher wants to leave his $400,000 a year job is because he wants to be a head coach. I believe Fisher will be making a mistake leaving LSU, but he has to do what is best for himself, his wife and his family.
As for Todd Monken, I believe the LA Tech job would be a great opportunity for him to be very successful at a school that has a great fan base and backing. In my opinion, the LA Tech job is a much more attracted job than the UAB job.

Geaux, I can't believe Fisher is trying for the UAB job. That is a no win stuation being in Birmingham. Having to fight between Auburn and Bama for recruits doesn't help.

No kidding. He'll be a wonderful head coach, wherever he ends up. I wouldn't mind stopping him 45 miles west of Birmingham!

I remember several years ago La. Tech was a team on the rise. Don't know what happened to the program but it has gone down hill. With a good coach, I believe they could have a strong team, not SEC strong , but a good team.

Don't remind me
Who would have thought they would beat Bama in both 1997 AND in the "rematch" in 1999?

I'd like to see La Tech come back like they were a few years ago. I think they actually beat Bama and took us to over time or down to the last seconds back in the late 90's if I remember right. They would be a pretty cool in state rival for LSU if they could step it up a few notches. Who knows, maybe if the SEC ever expands to 14 teams we could see them in the SEC. I know that is highly unlikely, but I think it would be cool anyway.

living in Bham and being a fan of the Blazers, attending 2 or 3 of the football home games a year and several bball games a year I have to disagree......fortunately for UAB, conference USA doesnt have the same educational requirements that the SEC has so they end up getting very good talent at UAB, their defense is always outstanding, and of late they've had a good offense, their problem has been Watson Brown, who admittedly Ive supported but he is a mediocre coach at best and did what he had to do and that was get UAB off the ground in regards of evolving after becoming a D1 team 9 yrs ago................do you realize UAB has 9 starters in the NFL?? Hopefully UAB can snap a good young coach and flourish....w/Troy growing into a fine team, it will be neat to have 4 very good football teams in the state.

Report: Fisher candidate at La. Tech (http://www.2theadvocate.com/sports/lsu/featured/4924371.html) The Monroe News-Star reported Thursday that LSU assistant football coach Jimbo Fisher emerged late in the day as the leading candidate to become head coach at Louisiana Tech, a job for which LSU assistant coach Todd Monken is also a candidate. The report, which appeared on the Monroe newspaper’s Web site Thursday evening and did not cite a source, came hours after Fisher’s candidacy at the University of Alabama at Birmingham apparently ended. The Birmingham News, citing UAB sources, is reporting today negotiations between Fisher and UAB were halted by the Board of Trustees of the University of Alabama System. On the same day, the San Francisco Chronicle reported LSU assistant coach Bo Pelini is a possible candidate for the head-coaching job at Stanford. Pelini dismissed the story as speculative and said he has not been contacted by Stanford or its representatives.

I know that UAB has taken us to the wire a couple of times recently...I believe we beat them only 16-13 at home a couple of years ago!

Tech was successful cause they had a few stud QB's in a row, their coaching has been sub par also

I'd like to see LA Tech and LSU be strong. Ever since Tulane self-destructed on itself and left the SEC 40 years ago, Louisiana's had no natural rival to LSU.

Crap! I'm ready for him to geaux! Maybe he'll go to Florida State as the OC. I don't think there's much love between him and Miles.

I do believe you'll get your wish with the OC position at FSU. Looks like B.Bowden is going to hire him per the papers in Florida.

That would be good for all concerned. The Criminoles need him and can pay him at least what he's making here ($400,000.), and that would free Les Miles up to get his own man. I do hope we can keep Bo Pelini, the DC, for a while.

I do hope we can keep Bo Pelini, the DC, for a while.I read a report today that claimed Pelini was interviewing in Tuscaloosa.
Yeah, I thought... a shock jock will say anything. At least somebody's finally thinking outside of the box!
But it probably ain't Mal.
So much for wishful thinking...

Pelini has no agent and takes care of his own business, and he said a day or two ago when reports had him linked to the Stanford job that he hadn't talked to anyone from Stanford. He said he would likely be here next year. But, if he has an opportunity to go to Bama, I'm sure he'll geaux. There is no BS with this man, at all; he calls things exactly like he sees them, and he's 100% football.

Bo's good, but he's no Muschamp when it comes to defense. Give it a year for Muschamp to continue to recruit the players he needs for his system and we'll definitely see an Auburn D not to be reckoned with.

It's the same sort of confusion as the whole "on the wagon/off the wagon" arguement. What's the proper way to use that btw?

It's a force to be reckoned with. I actually think it would make more sense your way, that just isn't how the phrase is used.
I mean if they are not to be reckoned with then that would seem to imply you don't even want to meet them.
But I was just messing with you anyway... lol

What's a Alabama-affiliated-team-looking-for-a-head-coach thread doing without a proper conspiracy theory??
LINDY'S: Alabama BOT Sabotages UAB? (http://www.al.com/ncaafootball/lindys/index.ssf?/base/sports/116638591067080.xml&coll=9)
This Lindy's columnist seems to think Alabama nixed the Jimbo Fisher to UAB deal cuz they didn't want UAB to have the better coach. Of course, he goes on to speculate that the reason for that could be that Bama is still holding out hope that Saban will become their head coach and they want Fisher available to do the OC thing & eventually take over for Saban when Saint Nick jumps ship again.
As the Tide Turns....

Ben Cook's a Finebaum regular, and often brings a good bit of insight to the show as a regular guest.
btw today's Finebaum is now online to be listened to at www.finebaum.com and they have a great insight on Alabama and UAB. Interesting fact: Neal Calloway, the new UAB coach was fired in the wake of the 1993 Auburn Probation and the recent Alabama Probation.

Yea, I want to see Muschamp on his own for a while before crowning him with anything. I really think he will do great though. He did learn from the master.
