Even though I'm a huge JACKSONVILLE and JONES-DREW fan, I would be stupid not to pick LT. If he keeps putting up numbers like this over the next three years or so, then I will gladly put him above Jim Brown on my list of the greatest running backs of all-time.

Height is just about the only comparison you can make between Jones-Drew and Sanders. Sander was all wiggle and explosion. Jones-Drew is all about power and break-away speed.

Dr. Pepper is a Falcons fan because that was the team of choice when he was growing up in middle GA. However, I was born and raised in southeast GA. With the way Jacksonville's city limits reach nearly to the FL-GA state line, we really weren't more than an hour away from Jacksonville. I was either 9 or 10 when the Jaguars were born, so they became my childhood favorite. It is easy to pick a team when they are so close, and it also helped that they started winning big in their second year. Let me tell you, it's fun giving these Panthers' fans a hard time this year because they were all expecting to go to the Super Bowl. I even predicted them to represent the NFC this year.
This season has been full of ups and downs really. Even before the season, I thought we were probably a year away from challenging the Colts in the AFC South. I was at the Dallas game, and I thought we were sure to be a Wild Card team. However, we lost Reggie Heyward for the season in that game, and our pass rush hasn't been where it could have been. Also, Marcus Stroud was bothered by an ankle problem for weeks, Mike Peterson was lost due to a torn pectoral, and Donovan Darius was lost due to a leg injury. Plus, we had the whole Leftwich thing. When we lost the second time to Houston, I walked out of the stadium and told my fiance that the playoffs could be kissed goodbye. That was translation for, "You better be glad I asked you to marry me on Friday because having to sit through USC losing to Florida and Jacksonville losing to Houston in consecutive days could have really ruined my weekend."
As of right now, I think we are sitting pretty for the Wild Card. Denver gave us a huge gift in benching Jake Plummer and opting for a rookie quarterback. Tennessee is hot right now, but so are we, and I fully expect the better team to win because better teams win in December. Then we host New England. I'm debating whether I should go to that game because it could be a win and your in kind of deal, but it's on Christmas Eve. It could come down to a road game at Kansas City. I expected that to be the case in August, and if that happens, then I'll bet on the better team winning there, too.

I, too, love watching MJ-D play. He truly is a joy to watch. I usually have a draft party in April for the NFL Draft. When our second round pick rolled around, I wanted us to take Max Jean-Gillis, the OG from UGA, but when I saw MJ-D's name scroll across the screen, I was thrilled. The kid is a player. The man everyone needs to watch out for is Marcedes Lewis. He was our 1st round pick and was MJ-D's teammate at UCLA. He's been banged up all season, but I think he's going to be a special TE in the future. You likely won't hear much from him throughout the remainder of this season, but I think he'll be equally as fun to watch as MJ-D in the near future.

Wow....that's a mouthful WB. The Jags are at 7 wins on the season. If they win out, they are a lock for a Wild Card spot, imho. But if they lose, especially one to my Patriots, then I doubt they'll get the nod.
I'm suprised you didn't comment on the Garrard/Leftwich QB situation. I think Garrard has actually made Jax a winning team. I can't fault Leftwich for being injured, but this season, Garrard has been the man.
Tell Dr. Pepper I feel sorry for his team's situation, seriously. I had them pegged last year to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl.
The Falcons were/are supposed to be a contender in 2006. I don't know what happened. Now they have to play the Cowboys. It all depends on how which Cowboys show up. The "We got run over by the Saints" team, or the "We gave Indy a loss they didn't expect" team.
If it's the former, then the Falcons will win.

We're actually at 8 wins on the year, and we are tied with Cincy. The Garrard/Leftwich deserves an entire thread. I'm personally a Leftwich fan. However, I'm a bigger fan of the Jacksonville Jaguars, and whoever we field is my guy. No one can deny what Garrard did for this team last year, and he should be commended for what he is doing this season. What Garrard has needed for so long in order for people to take him seriously is a big win. Last year he won games against teams like Tennessee and Cleveland, and he lost the one big game he played in against Indy. He has two big wins now. He beat the Giants in a Monday night game, and although he wasn't asked to do much last weekend, he led the team over the Colts. The question is this: What do you do next year? You can't have all that money in Leftwich sitting on the bench. He'll be in a contract year, so what do you do? Do you have a competition between the two like you have done the past two years already? Leftwich would probably win the job again, as he has done the past two seasons, and then you've got a mess of controversy again. I would not want to be our front office in a few months.
I pull for the Falcons much in the way my dad pulls for Jacksonville. We pull hard for both teams to win, but if they were to play, then we'd probably be pulling against each other. It pains me to see the Falcons playing the way they are, and Dr. Pepper is pretty much disgusted with them. He's been referring to the Jaguars as "we" a lot recently in our conversations. Deep down I know he's still a Falcons fan, but I have to admit that they are a pretty gut-wrenching team to watch. It's so painful. I don't know that they've played a complete game since Week 1 against the Panthers.

The Cowboys only need two more wins to earn a Wild Card spot. They have the talent, they just need to apply themselves in big games.
Romo, Owens, Jones, and Glenn are all star performers who should be getting the job done week in and week out. Had Romo started earlier, I believe the Cowboys would already be looking at 10 wins, instead of 8.

Eight wins, not seven. Check. In that case, even one loss won't hurt their Wild Card chances.
I really don't know what to think about the QB situation in Jax. Leftwich is obviously the true starter, and will be next season. I don't doubt that. I'm with you though, I wouldn't want to be the decision maker on who gets to start next season.
I really do feel for the Falcons. They are an on and off again team. I thought they were going to be a real contender after they beat the Panthers. Turns out neither team is worth a flip this season. The Saints have become the team of the NFC South. It's only fitting that they represent New Orleans this season, after the hurricane and whatnot.

What everyone forgets about the Saints is that most of the time Jim Haslett was there, people were predicting that they would go to the playoffs. They had good personel in place most of the time, but Haslett was a worthless head coach. I expected them to compete this year while taking some lumps with a new head coach, and I also expected the NFC South to be the best division this year. I was wrong on both accounts. The NFC South is mediocre at best, and the Saints have played well throughout the season up to this point.

The Jaguar/Colts game was great to watch. If I had to just pick one NFL team to cheer for it would be the Panthers with the Jaguars a close second and the Chargers right behind them. I'm just about ready to give up on the Panthers this year though.
As for the Colts...WTF? How on earth do you give up that many yards on the ground? By the end of the game they were running the ball EVERY SINGLE DOWN and they STILL couldn't stop them.

Because Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis are pass rushers and the only run stopping DL, Corey Simon, got some freakish arthritic condition that landed him on the IR. The only person capable of tackling in the back seven is Bob Sanders at FS because of a bunch of undersized, underachievers at LB.
I love LJs style of running, probably him.

Agree wrt Lewis. I think it's his job to lose next year. Kyle Brady has seen his last days in the teal and black. I was never impressed with Brady because he has hands of stone although he is a good pass/run blocker though.

Brady has been one of the great Jaguars. He just won't be recognized as such because he played as a blocking TE in an era when most franchises tried to evolve their TE position into a lethal weapon in the passing game. Brady is a non-factor in the passing game, and fumbles aren't uncommon when he actually makes a catch.
What sucks about this year is that Jacksonville wanted to go to more of an ACE formation look. They wanted to use two tight ends, Brady and Lewis, on many downs this season. The ACE formation opens up so much for the running game, and when you get the defense thinking run, then you have one tight end, which would have been Lewis, being used as a receiver. George Wrighster has done well in filling in for the rookie when they've wanted to get production from a tight end. With Lewis healthy throughout the rest of the season, I look for them to use more of their weapons. If you noticed against the Colts, they started using the ACE formation a lot as the game went on.

I wouldn't even put Emmitt Smith in the same category with Brown, Sayers, and Payton. Sanders was twice the back Smith was but hated the Lions and their ineptitude. However, I believe that Tomlinson may be the best RB to ever suit up in the NFL. He does everything Payton did and more.

Some would consider Emmit, I just thought I'd throw his name out there. BTW, Barry Sanders deserved every yard, every TD, every accolade, and his induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Period. My Mom is a Lions fan, so we used to watch a lot of Barry Sanders in my house growing up.

My uncle is former Ole Miss WR Grant Heard's dentist. So back when Ole Miss played Marshall in the Motor City Bowl, he got Heard to get his son and nephews autographs from Sanders. His son got an autographed jersey.

Cool. I knew a guy when I worked Wyoming who used to work the Vegas strip as a bartender. He met Barry Sanders, or so he claims, and they played a few hands of poker and had a couple drinks. He told me Sanders thanked him, before they parted ways, for not asking for an autograph.

Gee, all Emmitt did was rush for more..........why am I even going there. Fact is, could Sanders have went to another team? Yes. He quit........period. Why did he "retire"? He wouldn't last to much longer with his knees because of his running style and due to the fact the Lions played on turf......bad combination. I worked in Ypsilanti, Mi. at the time of Sanders final season and that was being said across the media outlets. I could go on about Emmitt being more productive.....but I won't. This is just coming from me now folks. Comparing Emmit Smith to someone like Jim Brown in unfair. Emmit Smith has the all time rushing record, true. But he played 15 seasons at 16 games per season, plus the playoffs.
Jim Brown played what, 9 seasons? When only 14 games were played in a season. Imagine if Jim Brown played 15 seasons, solid seasons, with 16 games per season. How unbeatable would his record have been?
He rushed for more than 1,000 yards in seven seasons, scorching opponents for 1,527 yards in one 12-game season and 1,863 in a 14-game season.
When he left the game before the 1966 season, no player had ever ran for as many yards (12,312) or scored more touchdowns (126) or rushing touchdowns (106). "And he played at a time when defenses were set against the run first and the pass second," said Hall of Fame running back Gale Sayers.

Actually, to fine tune your post, he played four seasons during which time the total number of games was 12 and the last five expanded to 14. So, he played 118. The column 16G.TOT in the table below shows what would have happened if he had played as many games as the top three other runners. The only runner that he really compares with is Sanders.
