I just heard a very strong rumor that Bama has hired Jimbo Fisher as its new head coach. Should be confirmed later today.

As opposed to a weak rumor? What is so strong about this one as opposed to all the others?

Well, the best we can do is remain optimistic without getting our hopes up. If Jimbo Fisher did come to Tuscaloosa, it could only be a positive for Alabama.

Great. Silly string, a car compacting machine, a box of Rice-A-Roni are going to help us determine whether or not the rumor is true. These two are like MacGuyver with a science fetish.

LSU's Fisher to be interviewed

Wednesday, December 13, 2006
STEVE IRVINE
News staff writer

UAB officials contacted LSU offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher about the head football coaching opening at UAB and an interview is scheduled for Thursday.

Fisher, 41, played and coached for Terry Bowden at Samford and also coached under Bowden at Auburn. Fisher has been the offensive coordinator at LSU since 2000.

It's unclear whether Fisher will come to Birmingham on Thursday or UAB officials will travel to Baton Rouge to meet with the prospective head coach. A source said on Tuesday that the meeting with Fisher is the only face-to-face interview that has been set up.

Fisher has been connected with several job openings over the past few seasons. He's currently being considered for the offensive coordinator position at Florida State, but FSU head coach Bobby Bowden said he wouldn't hire a replacement for his son, Jeff, until after the Seminoles play UCLA in the Emerald Bowl on Dec. 27.

Fisher was mentioned to be in the mix at North Carolina State and Cincinnati before those schools filled openings.

It still appears that Fisher is the top choice as Watson Brown's replacement. Brown resigned last Friday after 12 seasons as the program's head coach and accepted the job as head coach at Tennessee Tech.

Meanwhile, another member of Brown's final staff has moved on to a new job. Secondary coach Shawn Raney, who has been at UAB since 2004, was hired to be on Gene Chizik's first staff at Iowa State. Raney will again work for defensive coordinator Wayne Bolt, who was at UAB when Raney arrived.

Mal is having running conversations in South Carolina with Tommy Bowden. At least he was recently.

Let's just say.... How interested are you and tell me how you would run our program....

Seriously, I don't really want Bowden. I'd rather just see SC beat him 5 straight while he's at Clemson.

I don't want Bowden.

No. 1 - Neo bragging rights, lol

No. 2 - I just don't think he's a great coach, look at all the times they lose to teams they have absolutely no reason to lose to. Seems to always let down on expectations.

No. 3 - The name Bowden just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

I will however take Jimbo Fisher. That is if the rumor is true. I'll give Geaux rep points as often as possible if he is right about Fisher.

I talked to Coach Dave Wilson last night...He mentioned that Mal and Tommy were just having get to know each other meetings at this time. He is pretty well connected to all the Bowdens and several other football programs.

By the way, Tommy's contract currently runs through 2010 and he currently makes 1.1 million a year and with incentives up to 1.4 million.

I just hope it's all friendly and no business. I really don't want Bowden. Who does?

It is UAB.
Sorry for the earlier confusion.
Here's a report:

Birmingham bound? Jimbo Fisher, LSU's offensive coordinator, is set to talk to the University of Alabama at Birmingham about the head football coaching job. The Birmingham News reports that Fisher will interview with the university Thursday in the only face-to-face interview that has been set up. Fisher has been the Tigers' offensive coordinator since 2000.

So does this mean that we cant add Jimbo to list of people who turned down the Alabama job?

well Geaux will tell you and most Auburn fans that Jimbo is overrated, his OC/playcalling and the job he did as QB coach at Auburn, Bama shouldnt want this guy but I do think he'll take the UAB job if offered

and piss on Tommy Bowden, is he actually in demand?

(Assuming AUA means Auburn University...)

Easy, AUM is the one with the better basketball team! (AUM beat Auburn in a pre-season game.)

BTW, I'm an alumnus of both AUM and AU: there's a huge difference between them.
