With the recent coaching search chaos at Alabama, the in state recruiting war could very well swing in Auburn's favor.

So far Bama has some solid prospects who have made verbal commits including Rolando McClain and Robert Marve.

How does Alabama do in terms of recruiting for 2007?

depends on how long you go without a coach before recruiting picks up agian. you could lose some recruits, but i don't think you'll lose any to us. we aren't really going after any of your guys and only have a few spots left for guys who are uncommitted. i wouldn't worry too much about losing your recruits though as most in-state guys are either auburn or bama and it really doesn't matter who's coaching

USC has a 4 star DT who is committed to Bama visiting this weekend. That is the issue you are going to start running into unless a coach gets on board quick.

See, that's why we need to hire a coach already. Joe Kines can do the job, I wish they would just give it to him already. He knows what he's doing, and with his reputation as a great defensive mind, he'd bring a lot more defensive recruits in year after year.

Yes BUT, he wasn’t he in the middle of recruiting mess at Florida under Charlie Pell? Wasn't he the Florida DC at the time? If so he had to have known what was going on, the whole staff did!

I may be wrong, feel free to correct me if I am.

With that said, I think he should get the Job, and I think he would do very well with it. I haven't seen anything negative about him in years, and he dose know to coach D. I wonder why he is still a DC, maybe his people skills aren't up tp handling the Alum? HUM? Makes me wonder???
===================
I looked it up, and I am editing my post.
He was DC at Florida as I remembered.
1981-1984 Defensive Coordinator Florida "The Charlie Pell" era.
Glag to know that my memory was correct.

Depending on what happens, look for someone else to move in and get Jermaine McKenzie. Also, the longer it takes to get a coach, the more likely Bama will lose any shot at Brandon Gibson. If that happens, there's not much left at the WR spot on the Bama board this year.

Rolando McClain looks to be a solid commit for Alabama. I've read what I could of rivals and scout (non-premium preview stuff). I believe he is rated as a 4 star by scout.com.

Ht: 6-4 Wt: 230 40: 4.68
Position: LB, TE
Year: Class of 2007
High School: Decatur HS
(Decatur, AL)

Pos: SLB Pos Rank: #11 Pos Rating: ****

Biography:
McClain had an impressive junior season recording 104 tackles, four sacks, one interception, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. He recorded 24 receptions for 436 yards from his tight end position in 2005.

This is all the info I could get without having to sign up.

Sorry guys I do not have a Link I did hear it on Rivals Radio.

Chad Jones 5 start received a text from Saban. Chad said he didn't have bama on his list but will talk to Saban.

Also Mcknight wants to speak with Saban as well

Great! I saw a quote from Kerry Murphy that stated, in so many words, "Auburn is a great football team and Miami will land on their feet. But Nick Saban coming to Alabama totally blows it out of the water."

I'll look for link. I think Tidefans.com has it.

No verbal yet. This is what he said

http://alabama.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=631425

He does want to play right away and out of the 4 schools that give him the best chance is Bama and Ole Miss. Also he wants to contend for a championship so Bama will be better than Ole Miss for that.

Kareem Jackson, a WR/RB/CB that had previously committed to Vandy visited Alabama on Monday and received, and accepted, a scholarship offer. He has supposedly already moved on campus and will start classes tomorrow.

Still making the rounds
A day after committing to Alabama, West Monroe defensive lineman Luther Davis was one of eight prospects making official visits to Louisiana Tech this weekend. According to West Monroe football coach Don Shows, Davis, a 6-foot-4, 260-pounder, lacks both the necessary ACT score and core grades to be academically eligible to play as a freshman.

I wonder if that's why LSU pulled their offer. It would make sense. The official transcripts of all LA high school students run through Baton Rouge now, so LSU would essentially know about it as soon as his school entered his semester grades.

I heard that the LSU coaches rescinded the offer because Davis kept denying that he was visiting Bama and then sneaked off on the visit. I don't know if that is true or not.

Noel Devine loves Trip to UA....

North Fort Myers five-star freak Noel Devine was in Tuscaloosa this weekend for an official visit with the Tide. Devine, 5-foot-8, 175 pounds, is one of the nation's most sought-after athletes, and his trip to the Capstone was his first.

Devine is a very good player but he carries more baggage then a cross country Greyhound bus under section.

1. He will not make grades.
2. He has two children with two different women.

And my perception of Noel just went out the window. :laugh:There was a former Alabama recruit that had a troubled past and the big question at that time was whether or not the program should take a chance on a guy with such character flaws. The coaches gambled and it paid dividends to the program, the player, and everyone that this "troubled" prospect would come into to contact with in the years to come. Once the recruit got on campus and into school, it changed his whole perception of life. In my opinion, there has never been a finer player on and off the field than Derrick Thomas all because someone took a chance on him.

Devine might turn out to be a model citizen and student and most likely someone will take a chance on him.

It has also been rumored that he will not sign with anyone until well after Feb. 7th.

I may have jumped the gun with Devine. A 5 star recruit is no small gain, even with "excess baggage". I'm not calling his children baggage, but the situation itself. I remember a player at Clemson was granted the opportunity by the NCAA to let his little brother live with him on campus and even attend practice.

Cianne
01-31-2007, 03:03 PM
The Clemson situation is completely different from Devine's. In that one, the player's mother was a raging alcoholic who I believe refuses to go to rehab and he has taken legal custody in order to get him out of that home. That's far different than Devine being a manwhore.

True, but I just listed it as a broad example of how players can adjust to college football with dire situations and circumstances before them.
