Troy Smith = too small to be a NFL QB.

p.s. your sig is the size of Brady Quinn's ego.

That's harsh. Nothing on earth is bigger than Quinn's ego.

Thanks, My favorite Heisman winner that I can remember playing is Eddie George. He just ran over people and was extremly fast at 6'4" 235 lbs.

AuBlaaaaaake: Troy Smith is 6'1" on the roster and 6'0" in real life. He is the same height as Donovan McNabb, Drew Brees, Mike Vick, etc.... and a hell of a lot taller than Doug Flutie. I really don't think height matters that much unless you just sit in the pocket and pass all the time. I think that the Browns will take him next april. He'd be a nice fit there

Tommie Frazier should have won the Heisman that year.....and had they voted after the '96 Fiesta Bowl <<gag reflex>>, EG wouldn't have won.

During the Michigan-OSU game the announcers talked about his possible pro career and one guy said Troy was listed as 6'0" but that when he interviewed him Troy looked no taller than 5'10. Must have been a Michigan announcer haha. I'm sure he will get drafted, but there have been more than a few Heisman winning QB's who go on to do close to no work in the NFL.

Oh? Is that why Drew Brees at 5'11" is tearing up the NFL? Height is probably the most overrated topic when it comes to determining what a QB can and cannot do in the NFL. A QB spends his entire career in high school and college learning to cope with it, especially if he plays on the BCS level week in and week out.

Yeah, not to mention Doug Flutie (now retired).

Fear not Gators, we had a coach who was once at OSU and idolized Woody Hayes. He beat the Bucks in 2 straight bowl games. Go Gators!!!!!

That's right, Holtz was a part of the Buckeyes at one time. I forgot about that.

Cianne, I always thought the same thing but recently heard a retired pro QB (forget which one, but he was announcing an NFL game a few weeks back) say that size is VERY important. This QB had great stats in the pros, but admitted that he had a very hard time seeing over the line and claimed it cost him a lot since it forced him to scramble at times.

I can see both sides of the dilemna, but being tall has to help.

There's no doubt that it helps, but I would still venture to say that it doesn't hurt as much as people say. Seeing over the line really isn't the problem these days. Defensive lineman are now all as tall oas the offensive lineman so it is more of a worry to get the ball over them rather than see over your own line. Being able to spot the throwing lane is a skill that some QBs still haven't figured out how to do and height doesn't really matter with that.

of course size is important, in fact criteria, but as in everything there are exceptions to the rule and trust me to be less than 6'1 in the NFL and be a successful qb you have to be an exceptional exception to the rule

You only have to be a tall QB if you are not mobile enough to run. Drew Brees is doing fine and tearing up the NFL right now. Donovan McNabb has had much success. Troy has no trouble seeing over the O-Line now and OSU has the biggest line in the country.

LT - #75 6'8"
LG - #71 6'8"
C - #50 6'5"
RG - #72 6'5"
RT - #74 6'6"
TE - #86 6'7"

I don't know Cianne, but every time i read one of his/her posts, they have the best points. Cianne owns at posting!

BTW, size does help, but there are many examples in this thread alone that shows that it doesnt make that much difference. Look at McNabb. He's had an outstanding career, other than his injuries. Oh, and if you're wondering where my allegiance stands outside of cfb, this should clarify things if my post didn't already:
