Not surprising. It was an easy pick this year....

Damn I wish I didnt have to work Mon. so that I could listen to Colin Cowherd on ESPN radio. All summer we had to hear him talk about how betting on Quinn to win the Heisman in '06 was the safest bet anyone could make. I may even have to record it to see what it sounds like to hear someone gourge themselves at a crow buffet...

I can see that Gator defense licking their chops! Could be that wearing that Heisman tag will net the golden boy more sacks and bat-downs than he's ever experienced. Let's hope so anyway.

He's had the Heisman tag since halfway through the season and that didn't cause Michigan to stomp him into the ground.

I think the Gator D might be a tad quicker and even more physical.

Quicker maybe but I doubt more physical. Michigan has the best front seven in the game.

:eek:
The two best front sevens live in the SEC: Florida and LSU.
IMHO
And any team that gives up 26 points to Ball State is automatically eliminated from the discussion.....

Not to mention their first half struggle with Vandy.

Congrats to Arkansas and McFadden for coming in 2nd in the Heisman voting. Not bad for a sophomore. :thumpsup:

I'm with Cianne...UM's front 7 is as good and probably better than any team in the country and that includes UF & LSU.
The game-by-game for UM is most impressive though...only 2 teams (Ohio State & Minnesota) reached 100 yards in rushing as a team, NINE of Michigan's oppenents weren't even able to reach 50 & two were in the negative. UF allowed four teams to hit the century mark, LSU did as well. LSU did hold 2 teams to 50 or less while UF did that 5 times. UF held one team to negative rushing yards (UT) while LSU didn't do it once.
Look at the ranks for front 7 production:
UM = 6th Total Defense, 1st against the run & 2nd in sacks
UF = 10th Total Defense, 6th vs. run & 54th in sacks
LSU = 2nd Total Defense, 15th vs. run & 6th in sacks
I understand numbers don't tell the whole story, blah blah blah....but the reason Michigan has had such a great year is its defense. Not taking anything away from LSU & UF's front seven but the Wolverines' unit is better than both. IMHO....of course, living in the Big Mitten, I'm forced to watch a lot of their games...
As for the Heisman voting, was good to see McFadden finish ahead of Quinn. At least the voters didn't get overly wowed by Quinn's numbers since ND passed 70% of the time.

The Big 10 is weak. The offensive opponents UM faced this year are not that good at all....and none of them have rushing attacks as good as Arkansas. I'll put the quartet of Tennessee, Alabama, Less-U, and Arkansas against any four conference opponents in the nation. The Golden Gophers aren't even a .500 team.
Also, when you get behind early---as bad as the teams UM has played invariably will---they are forced to throw the football much more often, making them less balanced....skewing the defensive rushing stats. What's more impressive: holding a team to 89 rushing yards on 37 carries or 55 yards on 11 carries?
If it wasn't for the 3 sacks, Ball State would have had as many rushing yards as McFadden (73) and a little more than half the team yards (as Arkansas) with about half the touches. Ball State also had more than half Arkansas' ypr average while giving up an extra sack (-11 yards) in the game.
And we can agree that Ball State isn't half of anything when compared to Arkansas.....

Look at who they played...compare those numbers.....half the teams UM played have <.500 records.

All Big 10 teams play really physical. Its just that the bottom half gives up after the first quarter. IMHO, Michigan, Ohio State, and Wisconsin would be competing for the SEC championship every year if they were in the conference.

According to most services, Michigan's strength of schedule was higher than that of both LSU & UF. I looked at who they played and all that did was reinforce my belief that the Wolverines can put their schedule up against anyone's in the SEC. I'm not going to sit here and try to say Michigan's slate was much more difficult than UF's or LSU's but it's an easy argument to make that they're comparable. You have to at least admit that....they're comparable.
