I think it is time to bury the hatchet with all the grumbling going on with Bama and USC fans. This is an awesome forum and its being scarred by disparaging comments from all of us. I'll be the first to admit that I let it get to me, a person can only read so much negative content until they find themselves popping off insults too. With all of this, we have been missing out on alot of good football talk. I don't expect us to be in utopia here with all the rival teams and such but we don't have to act like third graders either. I don't think the fans that have been here for the first time as of lately think alot of our constant barrages of negative comparisons and insults. Let me be the first to apoligize if I said anything that offended anyone. So lets put an end to all of this and get back to discussing SEC sports.

If you think its been bad lately you shoulda seen how it was leading up to the SC/Bama game in '05. I figure its just because out all the SEC schools SC and Bama have the most posters on here. Soon Bama will get a coach, everyone will start focusing more on the bowl games, and things will die down...

Hopefully the bowl season will put this all behind us.....32 Bowls, 64 teams. Too many to watch, not enough time to talk about much else on here.

I think some fans take all this a little too seriously. Most are just having fun. I would like to see all of the SEC do well and represent us all well. Every school has had been thrown into a negative light at some point and time, some more than others. Right now it's shining brightly on Bama and it doesn't look good for the SEC since Bama is one of us. Just roll with it and eventually the spotlight will shine a different way.

So this Bama / USC thing is bad? How bout whem USC hired Spur and Ole Miss was looking for a coach? I caught heck and still am! It is college football and we all love our respected universities but the games are played out of sportsmanship not war. I expect to be given a hard time here and it happens. I also like it when I see folks get along. That keeps it all in perspective.

Until they right the ship, Alabama fans are going to have to learn how to be better losers & USC fans will have to learn how to be gracious winners. I am not implying that from this day forward, Alabama is going to lose & USC will win. I do think Alabama is going to lose more than they're used to and USC is going to win more than we're used to. The reactions each fan base have shown thus far, especially in the midst of the coaching change debacle Bama is in the midst of, have been predictable.

Once Spurrier's name was mentioned, USC fans knew he wasn't going anywhere and said as much here & elsewhere.

Alabama fans reacted by scoffing at USC claims that we dare think we're a program any coach would rather stay with compared to Alabama.

USC scoffed back because Alabama hasn't even shown they can beat us, (let alone the perennial SEC powers) and what makes them think at this point in time that Alabama is a better program than South Carolina?

Alabama fans predictably took offense and fired back with tradition and titles & how USC's past was sorry and money talks, Spurrier walks....this after Spurrier denied interest on a couple occassions.

Denial of interest in-hand, USC fans showed their ugly side by mocking Alabama's inability to find anybody interested in their vacancy, how they should have kept Shula cuz after several additional rejections, he's probably the best unemployed coach out there.

Personally, I agree a lot with what USC66 said...right now, Alabama has been its own worst enemy as they lash out at other programs for pointing out the mistakes their administration is making when they should be lashing out at their administration. Once y'all find a coach, things will die down.

Your team having a good showing in the bowl game will go a long way toward taking the heat off too. OSU = good offense (16th), bad defense (92nd) & BAMA = bad offense (60th), good defense (18th) so ya'll SHOULD have a positive end to a sub-par season. Hopefully, the coaching search debacle hasn't been too much of a distraction, if that's even possible.

"The most important lesson I've learned from sports is how to be not only a gracious winner, but a good loser as well. Not everyone wins all the time, as a matter of fact, no one wins all the time. Winning is the easy part, losing is really tough. But, you learn more from one loss than you do from a million wins. You learn a lot about sportsmanship. I mean, it's really tough to shake the hand of someone who just beat you, and it's even harder to do it with a smile. If you can learn to do this and push through that pain, you will remember what that moment is like the next time you win and have a better sense of how those competitors around you feel. This experience will teach you a lot on and off the field."

I realize this thread's purpose is to "bury the hatchet" with USC/Bama fans. However, the trend i'm seeing all over this board is bama fans generally not handling ANY crap talking well in any form or fashion. I don't believe for ONE second that if the tables were turned and Auburn lost 5 in a row and had all these coaching problems going on, that the Bama nation would be humble and not take every jab they possibly could. This isn't inclusive to all bama fans though, considering i'm a huge Auburn fan and talk very little to no crap. Bottom line is, stop playing the victim and howling when someone takes a wisecrack!! Don't dish out what you can't handle yourself Bamanation!

Cheers,

Good post WayzUp. The part about USC fans hit home big time. I've already noticed some fans on some other boards acting like we've already won the SEC, the NC, the Heisman, the ProBowl, etc..and like we've always won. Talking way over their heads to other teams. When we win, and I think we have a great chance to win, I hope we remember how to act. Smack is ok, but you don't own another team with one win. .02 worth.

2. Virtual world in which impotent dweebs, dorks, weenies, and nerds masquerade as powerful sages who claim secret wisdom and knowledge about athletic organizations. Often marked by the over-reaction to criticism or jokes about their team, mascot, cheerleaders, or university campus.
Wow! Those guys on the INTERNET know everything about the Pomona College Sagehens.

3. Bizzaro World in which disembodied messages about have the power to create angry responses and outbursts, sometimes followed by pleas for peace and love.

Overall a good post and good idea Tim.

This site even with the bickering when things like this happens, is still one of the better ones when it comes to multi-team sites. I also agree with another poster that things like this are expected and should be when things happen to programs. We never will all sit around and have one big group hug (not that you said we should).

As another poster stated, Bama fans need to humble themselves and try to stop living in the past so much and acting like y'all are owed something. Past glory is great, but it does not guarantee a single win in the present or future. We, as fans, tend to get in a rut and think that just because it has been that way means it always will be...... which isn't true at all.

I also don't think we are missing out on good football talk because we can have different things in different threads and I am sure we can all discuss more than one thing at a time.

I honestly think that you and Wally are two great posters and I have enjoyed the banter, but just because I give my 2 cents worth about your team doesn't mean I don't like or respect y'all as posters. (Heck, I recently gave Wally a + rep in the middle of one of our debates.)

I also will apologize for ever crossing the line too far, but don't expect me to totally drop the subject as if it were any other team going through this (mine included), the fans of that team would be catching the same..... except for maybe Vandy. Do they have ANY fans on here at all?

The thing that gets me is all the new Bama posters on here..... or old posters with multiple handles. Some of these debate threads have had over a dozen Bama posters on them and 70% of the posters have fewer than 10 posts. Not that being new is a bad thing IF you are legitemate, but we both know some are people hiding behind a false handle.

As far as the fans that say USC fans need to be gracious winners.... not sure what that has to do at al with this Bama/USC debate. The main players in this debate haven't claimed to have won a single thing. In fact, in the "what do you expect" thread I think a lot of us said one more win than this year as our expectations for next year..... THAT even when Steve Spurrier himself claimed to set the goal of winning the SEC East.

I love football period. The Bama thing has gotten out of hand no doubt. I have always been and will always be a Bama fan so, all the negativity is not going to change that and I am moving past all the trash talk wars. Some of it was pretty damn funny, but now it's just silly. The SEC is the greatest conference and if one of the teams are playing, I'm watching. The trash talk is ending on my end.
Oh, BTW TimNem please don't post any more pics of Spurrier and Fulmer wearing thongs/speedos....Those images caused me to have nightmares for a week.

this isn't bama were talking about. Was a joke  But seriously, its becoming a stronger and stronger rivalry every year. Both teams have been dominant in recent history and will continue to be for at least the next 4-5 years, if not longer (based on recruiting/staff).
