STARKVILLE — Mississippi State’s Ben Hansbrough was named Freshman of the Week in men's basketball by the Southeastern Conference for his play in last week’s victories over Charlotte and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, MSU officials announced today.
Hansbrough, a 6-foot-5 guard from Poplar Bluff, Mo., averaged 19 points, 5.5 assists, 4 rebounds and 2 steals in the two games. He hit 10 of 14 field goal attempts, including 7 of 10 3-pointers, and made 11 of his 13 free throws. He didn’t commit a turnover and had 11 assists.
Hansbrough had career highs of 23 points and eight assists while making his first career start in the 96-72 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
