The long run in baseball is the season you are about to play. Many teams have bought championships and then cleaned house. They are not likely to get long term contracts at their age.

Obviously, signing Glavine would improve the starting rotation. What the Braves need is middle relief and timely runs batted in. The way Glavine helps is that it would allow the front office to deal away pitching prospects in order to get help in the bullpin and maybe get a guy with intangibles (no big name, but a timely hit kind of guy). Here's a quick solution to the Braves: Go back about three years. Hold on to my boy Adam Wainwright, and don't trade him to the Cardinals for J.D. Drew, especially if you aren't going to keep Drew. I think St. Louis got the better end of the deal there.

I love Glavine but I hate the way he left Atlanta. He wanted more money & he got it from the Braves biggest rival. As if we werent paying him enough.Glavine always has been known to be a keen business man. Isnt he like president or at least real big in the players union?

Anyways, I was at Turner field last year when he was pitching and clearly there are some braves fans who still hold a grudge against him.
But for the most part he got a standing O from the braves crowd. I expect if he does make it back to Atlanta, Braves fans will welcome him with open arms.

What we need to do is trade Andruw Jones before he flies the coup for more money. We need to get a BIG arm and a decent bat in return. Someone who could play CF and hit leadoff would work well.

Ouch! That hurts. All I will say is I hope you are wrong about Jones.
I think we need to build the Franchy around our Jones boys!

Long time reader, had to register to respond to this. The reason Glavine left the way he did was because he was offered so much more money. At the time he was president of the MLB players association. As president he was in a tough position, they band together to form a player's association in the interest of the players. Higher salaries is definitely a big interest for them, so it would be seen as a step down for a veteran to take less money to stay in the town he wanted to stay in. Atlanta should have ponied up and matched what the Mets offered.

I for one would love to see Glavine and Maddux both come back to end their careers in one glorious run to a championship in Atlanta.

Sorry but Glavine is not what he used to be. Peavy news is MUCH bigger.
