"Statement from a spokesperson for Mal Moore

As is customary at the end of the regular season, we are evaluating our football program. We are evaluating every aspect of our program and this is not a process that I wish to discuss at length in a public forum. We are bowl-eligible and we hope to remain positioned to play in a bowl game. We remain firm in our commitment to our student-athletes. I am proud of their efforts throughout this season and we are more determined than ever to return Alabama football to its rightful place among college football’s elite.”
Neither Mr. Moore nor Coach Shula will be available to the media until after the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. We thank you for your patience and consideration.

The quote in bold is a read-between-the-lines kind of deal. "I am proud of their efforts throughout the season...".....but it wasn't good enough..."....and we are more determined than ever to return Alabama football to it's rightful place among college football's elite."....by firing Mike Shula as head coach.

Just a little bit of humor for the masses.

He very well could be........BeHeaded before next week. If he isn't already and Mal Moore is covering it up.

I noticed that. It's just a weird subject anymore, isn't it? I have to make light of it, or I'll go crazy like the members of TideFans.com.

I'm just glad we got an official response. His credit to the players, but not Shula, spins the cogs in my head. Does he not mention Shula because he no longer supports him? Does he not mention Shula because Shula isn't going anywhere?

I believe it's the first. But who knows?

Sounds as if Shula is gone. I'd say 75% chance. Recruiters from neighboring schools must be loving this...

I still believe Shula will be back.

Me, too. You don't announce the firing of a coach without some idea of who his replacement will be. On the other hand, you don't trump the power brokers with an announcement of retention before they are ready to be in a position for total support of the decision. There will be changes; there is no question about that. Assumpions range wildly, but I think there will be at least 5 assistants gone before January.

What if I told you that the PTB started raising money for the buyout in early October?

I would have serious doubts, if for no other reason, than the fact that this would not be necessary. Four million dollars is an easy enough sum of money to get if the trustees/boosters/alumni in question are the ones who want the changes made. This kind of money can be raised in mere days if there is enough support for the decision.

Usually Bama is fairly predictible in these situations. They never seem to put up with losing for long. I don't know if that's bad or good. My worry is that they will get someone worse than Shula, recruiting is all screwed up, etc. On a lighter note, does anyone remember the Birmingham Stallions, Americans and Vulcans? There is this place that sells all these teams and more teams of defunct leagues (WFL, AFL, USFL, CFL, continental football league) apparel. Check it out it's like walking into a time warp. http://stores.ebay.com/ThrowbackMax

I just thought this forum of sports fans would think it was kind of cool, I did when I found it. Just get back on the tracks.
