I would like to give a big good luck to all SEC BB teams before we get it started. The Conference is suppose to be strong this season from what I've been seeing. A big congratulations has got to go out to our national champion The Florida Gators who represented the SEC well and also for a young LSU team who made it to the final four.

And let us not forget the University South Carolina. The mighty Gamecocks with their never say die attitude and their team play on the court, Won the NIT. So here's to them and their fans. How does it feel to finish 66 in the nation.

Job well done Cocks.

You know TD, that started off as a really good post... every time I think you'll post something decent you destroy it with Paragraph #2. Get a life...

Either way....the SEC won both major post-season tournaments last season, which is a feat in itself, along with 2 of the Final Four spots in the NCAA. Impressive, to say the least.

Indeed it is. Buit the cheers are totally different.

At Florida it's "we're number one, we're number one"...

At Hooterville it's "we're sixty six, we're sixty six'...

can you see, the two are a bit different. But heck being 66 is better than not being mention in the top 25 in football I guess.

back to basketball... I look at the SEC to be STRONGER this coming year.. or atleast at schools like State, Arkansas, Florida will be no worse, LSU should be good, Alabama, Tennessee??, Kentucky, Carolina, vanderbilt.. I'm getting excited! I'm not sure about Mississippi, Georgia (I know they had a tough year last year), or auburn...

and not sure as in, I have no clue.

Like it is :

No question SEC will be tougher on the court

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Today and Thursday, this beautiful city will host the SEC basketball media days.
That means all the men’s and women’s coaches and carefully selected players will come to be seen and heard.
The two days are informative but usually unremarkable.
Partly because this is the heartland of football, and many of the reporters who cover SEC schools would prefer another day of football practice over one of undefeated enthusiasm.
Whereas football media days attracts hundreds of media types, basketball gets considerable less attention.
Last year at these meetings, a few of the coaches bristled at the idea the SEC might be down.
Then, as a whole, they went out and had a pretty mediocre regular season.
In postseason play, the SEC shocked the college basketball world.
Florida won the NCAA championship, LSU made it to the Final Four and, while few outside the state of South Carolina cared, the Gamecocks won the NIT.
The SEC was a combined 13-5 in NCAA Tournament play and 5-1 in NIT action.
That translates into a lot of money for the league and a lot of respect.
So no one will suggest the next two days that this season is going to be a down one for the SEC, not with the Gators returning all five starters (each averaging at least 10 points), LSU returning three starters and getting former starter Tack Minor back after missing a year, and Alabama appearing to be locked and loaded.
In fact, the biggest loser of talent is the Arkansas Razorbacks.
Ronnie Brewer opted to be an NBA first-round selection, and Jonathon Modica, Eric Ferguson and Dontell Jefferson were seniors. That’s a lot of the scoring and most of the assists and steals.
Those guys helped Stan Heath to his first NCAA Tournament appearance since he came to Arkansas, and even though the departure from March Madness was premature by most people’s thinking, it appears Heath may have turned a corner.
Being in the Big Dance allowed him to steal Chicago native Patrick Beverley away from several Big Ten schools, and the shooting guard most likely will start when the Hogs tip off this season.
Last week, your scribe sat through most of a practice, and while it was obvious the flash of Brewer and Modica was gone, this group seems to have some talent.
Gary Ervin, who transferred to the UA from Mississippi State and sat out last year, is Heath’s first true Razorbacks point guard.
He looks for the open man, not an open shot.
Beverley can fill it up with threes better than anyone in Heath’s four years, and the front line appears ready for prime time.
Darian Townes dropped a few pounds, and so did Charles Thomas, who plays every second with great passion.
Thomas may see some action at the small forward as he spent the summer working on ballhandling and outside shooting.
Steven Hill, the shot-blocking fiend, has gained some muscle and showed some offensive skills.
Vincent Hunter, who on that Thursday appeared to be the most improved player, is also bigger and stronger.
Sonny Weems is an incredible athlete who will make a mark, and he may be the reason the Hogs look to push the ball more this season.
Michael Washington has some skill but would benefit greatly from a redshirt year.
Probably what stood out the most was Heath’s emphasis on defense, and that may be the greatest improvement as far as the entire team goes.
It is much easier to go uptempo when you are getting steals and forcing other turnovers.
Now, can the Razorbacks get back to the NCAA Tournament?
That’s hard to say right now.
The Hogs are going to have to improve as the season progresses, because the conference schedule is going to be difficult. The SEC is up, way up, this year.

The teams that they had to beat, all in succession, to get there, though, was impressive. Not many of the teams in the NCAA would have been able to pull off the same run.

Arkansas could decline, Florida and State will be better...but either way, the SEC should be even stronger this year, definately.

MSUCarFreak......Thanks for trying to help out, but it's futile to try to explain anything to this guy. He won't understand it. The only thing he's concerned with on this board is bashing SC fans and calling Tuberville a homo. He's got issues which no one on this site can help him with.

Actually I agree with Coach Odom in that with the NIT being ranked now and the better team getting the home games, in some ways it's tougher to advance a couple of round in the NIT than in the NCAA. Unless that is, you're playing Duke or UNC in Greensboro (might as well be home games).

And the media bobbleheads will still find a way to overhype Kansas, North Carolina, and Duke all season.

Very, very true. It's amazing how biased some of the coverage is. Hence my mission in the sports writing field (I write for CHN.com), to bring much-deserved glory to SEC hoops.

I love the enthusiasm! That's what's great about the SEC.

On the lines of that enthusiasm...and in total homerism, the 'Dawgs should be right back up there competing for the title as well!!
