View Full Version : Cutcliffe to UNC?
There are some rumblings about David Cutcliffe taking over the head coaching gig at UNC.
What do the UT fans have to say?
I will say this. If he does indeed bolt for UNC, he will be successful there.

Interesting. Its going to be hard to talk some of those coaches into coming there. Cuttcliffe maybe because he's an assistant but the head coaches that are sitting pretty with solid teams would be crazy to leave for UNC.

I don't think he will leave Tn. again. Not sure about his health and who knows he may be in line to replace Fulmer.

If he did decide to bolt, he's got a better chance at success coaching UNC than anyone in the SEC.
Look at the ACC as a whole. It sucks and we all know Cutcliffe is a more than capable coach that has shown he can win even in the smallest of venues.
He would probably turn UNC into a Top-25 team in less than 3 years EASY!

He made it clear in the offseason that he was still very interested in being a head coach somewhere. I would certainly hate to see him leave but if that is what he wants, best of luck to him. I don't know what the contract states for how long he is supposed to stay at UT.

Well VOL....
All over the TarHOLE message boards, his name keeps popping up as the most reasonable solution to the soon to be vacant HC position.
Some TarHOLE insiders are claiming that the UNC Admin has already had preliminary talks with Cutcliffe and that he is interested in the position.
Would you agree that he will be successful there if he accepts the position?

I do and I also think that he is likely to take the job if offered. The man wants to be a head coach. If he could find a solid recruiter to help him keep their best players in state, then he would be hit at UNC. Though he can sometimes be a bit conservative in play-calling, he is a master at developing quarterbacks and his attention to detail has been the cure for what ails the Vols. I'd hate to see him go, but at the same time, I would be grateful that he helped turn us around. He's lifelong Vol.

I dont know, they had interviewed cutcliffe on one of the news channels in nashville and he said his family is very happy in knoxville and plans on staying at tennessee, but theres always a chance he'll go somewhere else.......
But if he did leave i do believe he would be very successful as the Head coach at UNC

I don't see him leaving. Mainly for the health issue. But if he did bolt, I would imagine that he's learned from his first stint as a head coach. He'll be getting some marquee quarterbacks pronto.

i know he wants to be a head coach
but
something just tells me that fulmer will retire soon and give it up to him in the next few years, and not to brag, but there aren't many colleges that can compete with tennessee.

Cutcliffe deserves a HC job. Ole Miss jumped the gun letting him go IMO.

I probably couldn't have answered any better myself. I think he would be very successful as a HC. Coaching has a lot to do with the success of the team in any sport. He is an offensive mastermind and could do as well as Spurrier as an OC/HC. Only problem is, he works his best from the booth upstairs. If he were on the sideline, I think it would make his job a little harder. UNC would be blessed to have him but for the sake of Tennessee, I hope he stays.

I figured he would be reluctant to take another HC job after the way he was treated by Ole Miss plus considering his age and health. With incredible improvements he's made at UT in just a few months and his resume in coaching QBs I think UT will give him a lot to think about if he is offered a HC job. He could be the first assistant coach to make more than the HC.

Tennessee has $$$, tv exposure, huge stadium, dedicated fans, great talent, good recruiting, 3rd most players in the nfl, a rich tradition, and a head coach that's probably fixing to retire soon. just about any coach would love to coach there...like cutcliffe said, he wanted to be a head coach again. i've got a huge feeling that he's fixing to take the job from fulmer, after he steps down. fulmer just wants another season or two to have a shot at another NC or SEC Cham., and then i predict he'll step down. i seriously think this was part of the deal when cutcliffe came back to UT.

If he is offered the job at UNC, I think he will take it. Given his age and his health I don't see him waiting around a few more years to take over at Tenn. EAch year is very important to him now. Heck, he can always come back.
Hey Neo, don't you have some sources in NC? Check them out and see if this thing has any legs, this one is very intriguing to me......

I think he will hold on to the idea that Fulmer will retire and He slides into the UT job, Why not, UT vs UNC , Plus at UNC you have to fight Basketball as they are not know as a Football school.. Good luck what ever he decides.... I think he is a good coach,

UNC officials are keeping this one close to the vest. What I'm being told is that Butch Davis has un-officially been eliminated from consideration and that Baddour plans to talk with Cutcliffe (Formally) in the next few days about the position.
Cutcliffe has expressed interest in the job to the UNC Athletics Board.

From WBIR-TV in Knoxville, yesterday
Cutcliffe addresses rumors
UT Offensive Coordinator David Cutcliffe
David Cutcliffe knows the rumors are swirling and talk shows are buzzing about reports he might be considered for the head coaching job at North Carolina.
He also knows there's nothing he can say to stop them, so he just doesn't worry about it.
"I can't do anything about that," said Cutcliffe. "I'm not even there. There's no good answer to that so. I'm 100 percent doing what I'm doing and I don't even give that a minute's thought. Haven't got time for it."

Be weary...
Did you really expect Cutcliffe to come out and admit it? Let's be real people. If he did, he would be shooting himself in the foot.

I think UNC is think of the future with their next pick as Head Coach. I think they will go with Steve Kragthorpe.

Please let him get a head coaching job somewhere! How good a "head coach" he is or isn't will be questioned until he gets another shot at it! And Then It Will Be Another Four To Five Years Before That Question Can Be Answered Without Assuming!
