Does this forum have the vBookie betting system set up? (with points, not money, of course)

If not, DO IT NOW! It will attract so many more members and make people stick around. It's great fun.

Just set all the bet-worthy game of the week and use the lines from the AP, and us posters can bet for bragging rights! It's awesome!

(if you need an example, check out the CFB section of footballforum.com )

^and no, I'm not advertising for them. don't worry, this place kicks footballforum's ass! (with the exception of no vBookie!!)

It's set up, but we don't have it being used atm. I will see about how we can admin it. (I don't have the time to personally)

Please! The site will grow members wise, and the new guys will be much more likely to stick around.

To format I've seen is that a poster gets 10 'points' for a post and 15 for each thread started. So it encourages activity as well!

There is also some kind of bank where posters can store their points, but I don't know how it works.

That's a good idea Chris/Gator. I can continue to key in the pick-em games and such and let Gator handle the VBookie for the games. :happy:

It's at the top near the Pick-em's. Just click "Games" and select VBookie.

It looks like VbOOKie is going to be a lot of fun, I think once next weeks games are posted we should get a thread going to get people participating. Thanks Gator for getting it up an running.

Yeah, sorry....I didn't know how to do the vBookie thing, lol. I was looking in the Admin vBulletin....anyway.

I got it now, and I'll have the full SEC slate up for next week's games.

Two general questions:

(1) Should I guesstimate the odd differentials for each game--as I did for the Less-U game tonight? I'm thinking that would be a good idea, because it doesn't make much sense to have 2:1 odds, say, for both "Auburn to win" and "Tulane to win." I'm thinking a double 2:1 when Vegas is close to even.

(2) Do you guys want to do other games of interest (around the country) in vBookie, or should we limit it to the SEC games for that week?

-I would say take the odds off of a major sports site, and if its close to even leave it at 2:1.

-As far as what games, I would throw in the world series (just who wins the whole thing, and what the series score is at the end i.e. have like 6 diff options Tigers in 6, tigers in 7, cards in 6, cards in 7 etc.) Just try to put in major sporting events and when Basketball is up and running, lets try and keep it to big games/Big SEC televised games. Other than that some big NFL games would be fun, any major sport championship.


-The only real question is what to do with the vCash.. on a site my friend used to run, the points were used to buy off warnings and to change aspects of your profile (i.e. Change the color of your name etc). I don't really know of anything to recommend, but it would be cool if at some point there was something to spend them on.

There should be site incentives like Blake mentioned.

Also should have some kind of note/graphic on the left side of each post near the post count/avatar if you are in the top 10 in the site for points! Similar to how some posters have 'November 2005 poster of the month', there should be something like 'SECtalk's point leader', and have a top 10.

Ahh! I just rememberd the thing that made vBookie so great on the other site I've seen it at!

You can 'donate' points to other posters. This allows posters to bet head to head. For example, I could bet 1000 points on Auburn vs. Bama with a Bama fan, and the loser would donate 1000 points to the winner! That opens so many doors for the points.

Also it'd be nice if you guys could set it up so you get a certain point value for each post. How else are we supposed to add points if we go bankrupt?

Think we could start a sticky thread in the main FB forum? It IS football/SEC related, and I'm sure we could get many more people involved that way! Also much easier to communicate when the games are up, etc, etc

I think it automatically gives you 25 points if you are at 0 the next time a new thread is created.

Gator, I dunno if you checked out Rangers' site, but he has some great uses for the vCash won in Vbookie.. Im not sure how the awards work, but it would be cool to have medals for whoever has the most vcash, and other stuff.

I haven't checked it out yet, but I can't do any of that stuff anyway.

It's up to Chris to add new features and stuff. I can only manage the sandbox; I can't make it bigger....

Those ideas sound cool, though.

Chris if you are reading this or GN if you talk to him anytime in the near future, have him contact Ranger who posted earlier in this thread (alabama fan page 1). His site has some great ways to use the vcash and other cool stuff.

There will be nothing added until after this football season. There are reasons behind this, but I cannot discuss them publicly. It has something to do with the version of VB we are running and licensing. (Don't read into it too much, nothing bad...)
