Bob Stoops did a press conference a little while ago and announced that Peterson has broken his collarbone and will miss the rest of the season. I thought he was one of the leading Heismann candidates, so this definitely opens up the race a little bit more. However, it could also mean that Troy Smith will get a lot more votes now. One thing that is definite, though, is that Oklahoma's season is over.

Troy Smith is going to win the Heisman hands down now barring an injury, and even then, he still may win it. People won't vote for Wolfe due to his playing in the MAC, and Slaton is going to have to get his team in the BCS title game to get enough votes.

I hate that for him, I really do. I'm not exactly an Oklahoma fan :), but any time a player of that caliber gets injured for a period of time like that, it's unfortunate. Hope he has a speedy recovery.

Peterson is a great back and deserves the NFL.....BUT is no heisman back

i have to disagree. i think this year judging by performance he was the most deserving of the heisman. more physically impressive then smith, and much much more imortant to his team then smith. don't get me wrong, smith is an awesome athlete, and has done some really special things out there in sweatervest-ville, but he's just not as impressive as AP was.

this is tragic, i for one hopes he comes back for 1 last try at his trophy

Really tragic for Peterson, I hate to see it. That was the first time his dad could watch him play in person since pee-wee, and he gets a season ending injury.

There really wasn't any need for him to be in the game at that point. Guess they were trying to up his heisman stats or let him show off to his dad. Either way, terrible how it turned out.

IMO Peterson is definately a heisman worthy back. Ah well, he'll be off to the NFL next year. No sense in him coming back to college to carry 40 times a game and collect a few more injuries.

This kind of injury makes me really glad we only let McFadden carry 6 times this week...
