It will be a big step in defending the peace in the Korean peninsula?? These guys are freakin idiots. How this makes that part of the world more peaceful I'll never know. Thats just little Kimmie for ya...once again showing off his toys to make himself feel better. That dude is insane. Almost all the money of his country goes to his military so he has to play with his toys every once in a while to make himself feel better. He just does this for his ego...so its not him we have to worry about. However, he could sell a weapon to a terrorist country and that has me a little worried, but after seeing how his last few tests have went it made me feel a little better. His bombs arent as strong as they want them to be, and their missles couldnt hit the broad side of a barn.

Plus this test shows us something else. China is keeping us informed of what that crazy little guy(Kim) is doing. They alerted us beforehand. And N. Korea would never do anything to really make China mad. China is their biggest supporter and they obviously keep them informed of what they're doing. With China keeping us informed I dont see N. Korea doing anything that we dont have ample time to prepare for....not that they will endanger us anyway. Just another firework show by some little crazy Korean guy with a complex...

I'd rather see N. Korea with nukes than ANYBODY in the middle east. Those people are crazy.

The problem is N. Korea wont hesitate to sell any weapon to the highest bidder....and we all know how much money some of the middle eastern countries have made from oil.

its a tough situation. it isn't one that scares or worries me though.

china may be their biggest supporter, but they won't allow kim to become a nuclear threat. they are much closer, and at this point in history, much more capable of militarily handleing that situation

Well, with all the financial support that China gives N. Korea Kim cant afford to piss them off. China may support N. Korea but they arent gonna do anything to ruin their economic chances with countries like S. Korea, Japan, and especially America. China's economy is riding on our coat tails right now so they dont want anything to happen that will slow down our economic progress. I do feel that in the future they may pose a larger problem than we wanna realize, but at this point China's success is directly linked to the success of America. Anything that happens to set America back will ultimately set China back...and they cant afford that right now.

eh, you think were making economic progress? thats another debate for another thread.

also i personally believe that china's current and future economic success is not as dependant on the US as you write. in 15-20 years it will be the US that will be looking up the economic ladder at the billion chinese men and women running the economic world. were more and more quickly turning into a purely service industry, losing all of our manufacturing to the lowest bidder, namely china and other countries such as india. and that is not an industry that any country can depend on to run its economic machine. but again, another thread, another debate.

all i know is that there's a billion chinese men over there that will pour over the border like a tsunami and overwhelm the DPRK if they start flex the bomb.

Of course China's success is linked to us. They are in a mode of "put out as much supply as you can and hope we can find the demand to match it". As soon as America starts buying less the Chinese will feel it. With the amount of commodities made in China that are sold in USA and the amount of work we farm out to them they cant afford to have us spending less.

And yes I do believe that we are making economic progess. Just last week wall street closed at a record. Whether or not the average american sees this improvement is yet to be seen, but our companies are making record profits and ultimately our economy is doing great. Like you said though where these profits are going and how much its helping out the middle class is another thread altogether.

Im just saying that if China knows whats good for em they wont do anything that could hurt our economy....

i'll agree to dissagree and call it a day, back to the topic.

sucks this is happening now cause of the time it is here. fox new isn't covering it yet, but CNN is on the ball. more stuff's starting to become available. at least they were nice enough to give china a 20 minute warning, lol

something else to think about. pakastan tested a nuclear weapon, was told by the world that you suck for doing it, and end of story. hopefully this won't play out like that.

Surprising that CNN jumped all over this. You would think that Faux News would jump all over this one to try and distract the people from the Foley scandal. Putting fear into America's heart has proven very beneficial to the conservative base in the last few years...and I dont see how this would change now.If they can somehow make the country scared of the world we will vote conservative in an attempt to make this country stronger. Of course I think that pubs will lose seats in this election...but not because of the crazy things going on in the world...but because the pubs have shown to be no different from the other well-to-do socials from which they came.

Actually no...

KIA's are made in S. Korea, not NK.

Actually KIA's have gotten better in the last year or so according to Consumer Reports.

Estimates show that this explosion was roughly 25KT. (Kilotons) That would make it slightly stronger and more powerful than Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

A 25KT blast has roughly a 30 mile blast radius. So with that in mind, does he really need to be accurate with his missiles?

Actually the blast was only equivalent to about 500 metric tons of TNT, which is pretty small for a nuclear blast. Plus, even if they do have reasonably powerful bombs that doesnt mean that they have missles that can carry them. They cant even get their missles to go very far when they arent carrying a load...I think its unlikely they have the capability of launching a warhead with much success at all.
