i hope the cardinals get hot and win it this year. got pretty good pitching and pujols can carry the team if needed. also, he has edmonds and rolen hitting behind him so you cant exactly "pitch around" him. would love to drive up to st louis and watch the cards in "fall classic."
one thing about baseball is all that matters is who is hot the last month of the year. anybody can win it.
imo, the yankees have the offense, but generally pitching carries a team through the playoffs and the stankees are lacking in that department.

Born and raised in Bronx so I gotta go with the Yankees.
No pitching you say huh.... well lets check out the stats
you have Starting Pitching
Chien-Ming Wang at 19-6 with 3.63 ERA
Randy Johnson at 17-11 with 5.00 ERA
Mike Mussina at 15-7 with 3.51 ERA
Jaret Wright at 11-7 with 4.49 ERA
Cory Lidle at 9-4 with 5.16 ERA
Wang has the best sinker ball in baseball and when that pitch is clicking he is nearly impossible to hit. Johnson can be a dominant pitcher at times and at times he just sucks but he's not a bad #2 or #3. Mike Mussina is one of the best/most reliable pitchers in baseball. He missed a month with injury, if he didnt he would have over 20 wins. Wright and Lidle are good 4th and 5th starters and everytime Lidle is out there he throws a minimum of 6 innings.
In the bullpen you have MARIANO RIVERA. Dont have a say a single thing about him, his name just speaks for itself. Their major concern is the middle relief. There are guys there that can get the job done but sometimes are not reliable. If the yankees dont win the world series it will be because of their middle relief.

scfan, you really can't post those stats unless you're trying to prove cap's point. i'll give you wang (tee hee) but moose was dominant in the first half and avg. most of the 2nd half. the rest of that pitching staff is nothing to fear, and even mo in the bullpen has been hurt the last month or so. i think the yanks win it simply because their offense reminds me of a great article from The Onion a few years ago ( http://www.theonion.com/content/node/27656 ). you could take any man in that lineup and he would start at his position on almost any other team in MLB. therefore their 8 runs a night will overcome shoddy pitching.
i'm a red sox fan, so i of course hope they get knocked off somewhere along the way though. and scfan, my mom was born and raised in the bronx and roots for the sox so there's still hope for you!

No theres not. I HATE the red sox and nothing you will say will make me like them so dont try. and wheres boston this year? oh my bad...watching playoffs on tv. We will see about Mo. He is the best relief pitcher is baseball history. I will go with him over any reliever right now. He is at 80-90% right now and that is better than anyone in the league especially in playoffs.

now now, hate is such a strong word. how bout we say you strongly dislike the Red Sox?
no doubt Mo is the best playoff reliever ever though.
this is such a strange postseason though, because other than the Yanks offense I don't think there's a single aspect of any team that is really dominating or intimidating. injuries seemed to have created more parity in MLB this year, but instead of boosting lesser teams it's just made everyone average.

im with omaha....i think i might have left those stats out of the argument. regardless, there is really only 3, maybe 4 pitchers in a 7 game series. that said, the majority of games in the playoffs are lost in the 6th through 8th innings. this also happens to be where middle relief comes in. look at the games thus far and a lot of runs have been scored once the starter gets chased.
btw, the best sinker in baseball belongs to brandon webb of the diamondbacks.
we will see...if liriano was healthy, the twins would be hell to beat with him and santana. you would have to more than likely see them 2 times a piece in a 7 games series. he's not healthy, so it is a moot point.

i would love for the Cardinals to win it. in my oppinion they have the best Offense in the National league and nobody in the National league has great pitching so ill go with the Cardinals. The American league is pretty hard to predict. before the playoffs started i was think ing the Twins would win it all however i am having to change my prediction and go with Oakland. there Pitching is just too good.
Oakland vs. Caridinals in the World Series, im not sure who would win but ill say Oakland for now.

I'm pulling for the Cardinals. If the Cardinals get eliminated, I'll be pulling for anybody but the Yankees or the Mets.

we already took the comfy chairs, but the yanks can take the futon as we watch the rest of the playoffs.
