Just thought it would be interesting to post the 2005 SEC Attendence Avgs.

1) Tennessee (107,593 avg. per game)
2) Georgia (92,701 avg. per game)
3) LSU (91,580 avg. per game)
4) Florida (90,406 avg. per game)
5) Auburn (84,161 avg. per game)
6) Bama (81,018 avg. per game)
7) South Carolina (79,867 avg. per game)
8) Arkansas (63,678 avg. per game)
9) Kentucky (62,450 avg. per game)
10) Ole Miss (54,225 avg. per game)
11) Miss. St. (47,688 avg. per game)
12) Vandi (36,031 avg. per game)

Avg. attendence per game in SEC: 74,283

I thought it would be fun to check the avg. of the other 'major conference.'

Avg. attendence per game in ACC: 52,234

What a joke...lol...only two of our stadiums have have that low of an average. BTW, the SEC has 8 schools nationally ranked in the top 25 (5 of them in the top 10) for avg. attendence last year. The ACC has none in the top 10, and only 3 in the top 25.

Vandy even knows how to get ppl in the stands; nice to see Kentucky packing the stands too.

After the lightning delay in the LSU vs. Miss. State game this weekend, there were only like 10 -15 thousand ppl in the stands at Tiger Stadium. It was weird seeing it that empty.

We beat the Big 10 in overall attendance. Nice.

honest to god, no joking, i think Kentucky football fans are the best singular group of people in the world. how in the hell UK sells out that stadium almost every game every year is amazing. just unbelievable. THOSE, are dedicated fans. i'm very glad ot see things comming together for the team, and in turn them.

Actually attendance is dropping this year a bit. Plus, we weren't exactly packing the stadium anyway. Commonwealth will hold about 70,000. There's room for 8k more! There are plans that will include another 22,000 seats in upper decks in the end zones, if we'd ever get a consistent winner. That's a big IF.

The SEC has led overall attendance for awhile now (not sure when the streak started). Goes to show SEC is still the best .

I'm almost surprised.. our stadium holds 55,000... nearly 48thou isn't bad for a team struggling.. we should have a good crowd on hand for our first home game (West Virginia) since the 16th of september (Tulane)...

I'm also surprised that arkansas's is as low as it is. the avg is about 10k below capacity... and USC was a record crowd.. and bama was probably pretty packed. I guess Utah State was far less attended.

Arkansas plays some home games in Little Rock. War Memorial only holds about 55,000 I think. That is why our average is lower.

The ACC schools are smaller than the SEC schools. GT for instance only has roughly 15k students counting graduate students. I believe UF is near 40k students, makes for ALOT more alumni.

SEC schools have alot more fans that didn't go to thier school also. I know that there are a bunch of UGA fans that never attended UGA and don't really have a tie to UGA. I rarely find GT fans that don't have a tie to GT.

I bet there are a lot of UGA fans that never graduated high school.

Just like there are a bunch of Smoky Mountain Hillbillies that couldn't find Knoxville on a road map, but they wear orange 7 days a week.

Exactly, every game has been sold out this season in Fayetteville with the exception of Utah State. Those stats are from 2005 and include the average from War Memorial which only seats 55,000. Thats why we don't average around 78,000 every year. Still love the Little Rock games though. You can't beat that atmosphere.

Thanks in large part to the largest freshman class ever (4,378), UA has hit 23,848 this year, overtaking Auburn (23,547)as the largest University in the state.

right... I've been to many games there.. I love the atmosphere.. my favorite was an LSU game, but those numbers shouldn't be included yet or should they?? I mean we haven't played a game in LR yet. So that's why I was wondering..

oh and about those ACC schools being smaller... I don't know. . Mstate has a little over 15,000 and Ole Miss has about the same.. not to mention vanderbilt is pretty small and Arkansas is probably around the Miss schools. the ACC has some pretty big schools. Enrollment isn't everything..

Those figures were for last year's average, not this year.

I know it's not. Enrollment is only part of it. I mean GT has 15k counting grad students and thier stadium is roughly 50k in size.

Another factor is that the ACC has a bunch of private schools. Someone growing up in a state generally will become a fan of the big state school rather than the private school, even when never having plans to attend that school.

Clemson and Miami are a few counter examples. They are basically SEC schools that reside in the ACC. Vandy is an ACC school that resides in the SEC, atleast imo.

But Miami's a Private School that has trouble filling the Old Orange Bowl most of the time.

yup.. my thoughts.. on Miami. It's not a big school therefore I don't see it being SEC (according to your standards).. now FSU is huge. gotcha bout those figures being last year and not early 06 #'s.. I don't know what "defines" an SEC or ACC school..

I know it's a stereotype, but I think of SEC schools as party schools with a high population of women and excellent football. I think of ACC schools as very good school with even better reputations(education wise). There are obviously a few counter-points...

tecmsu06
10-05-2006, 02:34 PM
yeah.. I mean, both conferences have good schools (education, but the ACC does have a leg up academically) and obviously the SEC has better football overall... I think both conferences have a good number of party schools though... so it's hard to say..

Fun Fact: UGA has one of the best job placement rates in the nation. They staff half of the McDonalds in the Southeast!
