I have to say that that is the first time since coming to SC that Spurrier has ticked me off. I can understand his reasoning, but I don't appreciate the fact that he doesn't see that, even though the gamecocks didn't get a "W" on Thursday night, they still put forth a great effort and played a fantastic game with a lot of HEART and DETERMINATION. I guess Spurrier hasn't been at SC long enough to know what hell SC has gone through in football and to know that SC has some of the most supportive, proudest fans who are still proud to be gamecock win or lose and wouldn't change their allegiance for anything!

Another thought on this is that Spurrier isn't some kind of god who can tell everyone what to do. If the fans want to clap because they are proud of their team, they should be able to!

Just my opinion...take it for what it's worth!

I have to applaud Spurrier for saying something that isn't going to be popular. In all honesty, he's right though. By giving the team kudos while in defeat is to accept mediocrity.

In that aspect, he is correct. We as USC fans should demand better. The team had plenty of chances to win Saturday night and they didn't capitalize.

It's like some of the other posters said, until we demand excellence, we will only get enough to pacify us. Those my friends are the facts.

I can understand your point of view as well.

The point is that he does understand how much crap we've gone through as Gamecock fans. That's why he doesn't want us clapping for a losing performance anymore. For too long we've had a mediocre team on the field, and for too long we've applauded mediocrity. He's trying to change everything from top to bottom with this program.

Let's think of all the schools in the SEC that would appluad a losing effort:
Florida: Coaches get fired for winning 8 or 9 games a year down there.
Georgia: Yeah right.
Tennessee: One bad season and the fans put the coach directly on the hot seat.
Alabama: Yeah right.
Auburn: Yeah right.
LSU: Yeah right.

These are the schools we want to challenge. If we want our teams to win, then we need to act like it. I've never clapped for a loss, and I never will clap for a loss. I can appreciate that effort on Thursday night, and I'm dang proud to be a Gamecock, but I'm sick of losing. It's time for everyone else to get sick of it, too.

I agree 100 percent. I noticed that immediately after the game ended. Now that's not to say SC's effort shouldn't be applauded b/c it most certainly should. I mean, you could almost say they should've beat or at least forced OT with the No. 2 team in the land. They played a great, great game.

But Spurrier is, in a nuttshell, a winner. Winners aren't happy when they lose. I don't think SS was wrong at all for saying what he said and I have a feeling that'll be the last time any Gamecocks applaud the team after a loss. I can see the other side though. I know I was silently applauding SC after that game.
