View Full Version : Can LSU Come Back?

In 2003, LSU lost one game to Florida (17-9) on October 11 and went on to win the national title. It is now time for LSU to regroup and correct mistakes in the running game and the quarterback position and win the last nine games of the season. Some people think that LSU has a much better chance at running the table the rest of the season than Auburn has.

I totally think that they can. Correcting the running game is a must. I was wondering, along with many others, why Scott or Williams didn't really get a shot this past Saturday. Turn those two loose and see what happens the rest of the season.

I agree on Scott and Williams. We are wasting time with Justin Vincent. He goes down like a wash rag on first contact. Keiland Williams has all the tools to become a big-time SEC RB. In our next two games, he and Scott should get lots of reps, so maybe they'll play at Florida. Also, Ryan Perrilloux and Matt Flynn should get significant reps at QB the next two games.

By the way, my money is on you guys to whip Bama in Fayetteville. Good luck!

You don't have much money do you, Mr. 12-0?

i wouldn't doubt that LSU runs the table the rest of the year, but I don't see Auburn losing more than a game either, so the best they can hope for is an at large bid for BCS, which ain't bad...

The difference between 2003 and 2006 is that LSU lost to an SEC West opponent this week. Auburn would essentially have to lose 2 games, unless there is somehow a 3 way tie for the SEC West (personally, I don't see it happening). Also, Auburn plays their tough opponents (Florida and Georgia) at home. LSU plays theirs (Florida and Tennessee) on the road.

Exactly.

I think LSU can and will win the rest of the their games this season. Best of luck to the other Tigers in the SEC!

Thanks, Geaux, I can't wait for Saturday! Vincent needs to find a nice warm spot on the bench and get comfortable. This weekend if Williams and Scott get a few more carries, Vincent may just be out of a job. Also I have seen Vincent before this game this year but man, that guy has put on a couple of pounds.

Lets face it. VICENT DOESN'T HAVE IT ANYMORE. Not since '03. I agree, Give Broussard and the freshmen the rock.

I think Auburn has the talent to go all the way, but these slobberknockers are going to take their toll, especially without a bye week.

Auburn won the heads-up contest, but Less-U could pass them simply because they won't be as worn out in two months.

And with all the west games we have this season, Florida should be an Auburn fan's best friend.

Actually, it was 19-7...:)

Sorry, but LSU will not win in Gainesville...so, the point is moot...

i think LSU will win in gainsville...

and on a side note, can someone fill me in as to what the problems at QB are? russel put up 269 against one of the most solid defenseive performances i have ever seen. period. he made 1 or 2 bad throws, and a bad judgement call on the last play that Auburn did a good job of trickery with having it look like he could run it in after he caught it. don't call for russel's head after a game like that. yea, we lost it, but damn, both teams on that field were phenominal.

Going to be a good one, for sure! Another SEC slobberknocker. Do you know the time and the TV network that will carry this one?

It will be fun to watch, But I think LSU is a little stronger than Florida, But then it is in the swamp... so WIll be a great game to watch,, I think Auburns biggest concern the rest of the way will be Georgia, There again it is in Auburn,, so.. It looks like it will come down to the AU Bama LSU ARK game for the final decision,,,,,

LSU is a football team with tremendous talent. I love watching their athletes as much or more than any SEC team. Though Auburn has an easier road schedule than LSU, a lot can happen and usually does in SEC matchups. I still like my pick with LSU on top. We'll see how it goes for the rest of the season, but with althletes like LSU's and given the depth they have at positions as the season wears on, they could easily come out ahead.

I expect one of the major networks to pick up the LSU/Florida game. I noticed that CBS is televising the Florida/Alabama game for Sept. 30th.

Comeback from what? They played one of the best teams in the country right down to the wire and no matter how good Auburn looked this past Saturday, the season has just started, anything can happen. Lets wait and see the effect scheduling and injuries have on us all.

The play that killed me was the one with about 45 seconds left on the clock where Russell ran around in the back and took a tackle in bounds for no gain, rather than just throwing the ball out of bounds.

Remember any mistake that he makes is amplified by the fact that he has two studs waiting in the wing: Matt Flynn and Ryan Perrilloux.

The Gators have an awesome defense, Wynn is looking good, and Leak is coming along fine. However, if LSU hits Leak a few times like they hit Brandon Cox, Leak will crumble. I don't think he can take those kinds of hits for very long. Auburn gained 182 yards total, with less than a hundred from Kenny Irons. I don't think Wynn will get much yardage. Passing against the LSU secondary is no day at the beach, especially if you are getting run out of the pocket like I suspect Leak will be. It will definitely be a good, slobberknocking game with the Gators at home in the friendly confines of the Swamp, but they are going to have their hands full with the Tigers.

No doubt, Geaux...I would be exstatic with a split in the Aub-LSU games.

Absolutly bounce back!!! LSU has a great team, and i can honestly say that is there for there game with Auburn and i really don't know who has the better team. i think Auburn has a better shot at running the table because they have Florida and Georgia at home where LSU has to go the Swamp and Auburn would have loose two games and i don't see that happening. Justin Vincent hasn't been good since he got MVP of the championship game his freshman year. Alley Broussard, Jamarcus Russell, and their trio of recievers can beat any defense out there.

Can lsu score some points? Can Miles really coach in a super conference? Has the rooster at lsu become so concentrated with talented players that it makes it difficult for the coaching staff to put the right combo of players on the the field (see TN)? What team will the bengal overlook and then get popped? (ARK?) All are great questions that deserve answers.

Here's what has to happen for us to have a chance.

1. We must win out. No two ways about it.
2. We must have convincing wins against Florida and Tennessee.
3. Auburn needs to lose one game before the SEC championship game.
4. The SEC East representative must have 2 losses before the SEC Championship game.
5. The SEC East representative must beat Auburn in the championship game.
6. USC, West Virginia and Michigan need to lose a game.

This will allow LSU to play Ohio State in the Championship game. If you remember, Oklahoma played LSU in the Sugar Bowl back in '03 without even playing in the Big XII championship game. We lost early, which is good.

Now the chances of all those things I listed happening is very slim. But I can dream right? :)

That sounds far-fetched, but if all those things happened, then LSU could play for the national title. But they also have to avoid Notre Dame beating any good team convincingly (USC). If they do pull that off the media will go crazy and say the Michigan game was a fluke.
