Not that it should surprise anyone, but a buddy and I were out in five points last weekend and witnessed Blake Mitchell in full glory. He was in Pavlov's completely plastered and being a total jerk. Everyone in the bar wanted to punch him.
I left for the night after he interrupted our pool game by standing on the table and refusing to move. My friend pulled him down and tried to get him to quit, but he got so belligerent that my buddy and I nearly hit him. So I leave and find out the next morning that immediately after my departure, Blake left and got into another argument with a bouncer who dropped him flat in the parking lot.
The only amusing thing about the entire experience was when we told him Spurrier was in the bar. He totally flipped out. What an ass. This kid has no business playing football.
Never ceases to amaze me.

Never ceases to amaze me.
Yeah I mean the kid has only been given every opportunity ever, and he continues to blow it. To make matters worse, he goes into a bunch of fraternity bars and picks fights with people who are likely to have an army behind them while he himself can't get his own teammates to keep him out of trouble, much less stand up for him. I guess they knew he deserved it.
If I were him, I would be spending my time hitting the weight room before I got broken in half by some linebacker. The kid only weights like, 180 pounds.

When I first told people about Mitchell's parties and binge drinking, USC fans tore into me. Well, it looks like the "Monster" has returned.

Not that there is anything wrong with binge drinking. I just wouldn't be doing that if I played Division 1 College Football for a team that just hired a nationally known coach and was without a starter for the next season at my position.
Besides, everyone I talked to that night said this wasn't the first time. They were saying he was always like that and that he typically got beaten up at the end of the night.

Maybe, but either way he's looking pretty rough these days ! Maybe Mitchell will look like this in a few years if he keeps it up.

We need to go ahead and cut our losses with Mitchell now, before he ends up being the starter, and we have to boot him half way through the season or some crap.

From the very beginning I told yall that Spurrier was really eyeing Heffner more than Mitchell because of Mitchell's reputation.
You know that SOS has already found out about this. Spurrier himself was quoted as saying that we needed a more mobile QB in this day and age.

I'm going to have to ask again; why was Mitchell so highly rated out of high school? His senior year he passed for like 1800 yards and 12 TD's. How does that make you an elite 11 QB? I've never understood his status...

2. His work eithic is crap. If he intends on playing, he had better get his head outta his butt! This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Don't throw it away.

I have to disagree there. If you take the whole spring, Heffner was cut and dry MUCH better than Mitchell. Is Heffner ready to play a game yet? No. But, Spurrier said he should not be at this point. I think we will be fine. It will be Heffner or Rathe IMO. :)
Hefner isnt much better
I would have to disagree. Yes Heffner made a few mistakes in the spring game, but he looked sharp overall. Remember this kid Heffner is a Freshman. We will be just fine.

Exactly. You cant expect a freshman to not make a few mistakes. You can teach playbooks but you cant teach athleticism. If he can learn the offense and get better at reading defenses he has the potential to do great things. Plus if I could pick anyone in the world who I would want developing a college qb for my school it would be Steve Spurrier. With Heffners raw skills and Spurriers vast knowledge of offense and ability to teach I think we have a winning combination.

And don't forget the first pass of the entire Garnet & Black game should've been a 60 or 70 yard touchdown up the left sideline...Newton just failed to catch a perfectly thrown ball from Heffner. Quarterbacks, like no other position in football, rely on momentum and getting into & staying in the zone...Newton catches that ball & Heffner could've lit the spring game UPin a hurry. ;)
I'm with you, Neo...we will be just fine.

Heffner will give us a better shot at winning next year, because he CAN get away from the rush. and our O-line is horrible so we will need someone that can get away from the rush and throw the ball. he can do both so in my oppinion we will see heffner as our starting QB next year. thats just my oppinion but i have a good feeling he will be under center this up coming season

All this talk about Mitchell binge drinking is crap. I live in 5 points and go out alot to the bars. I have seen mitchell out there maybe twice or three times this year. last year, he was out there almost every night i was. He does not go out and party all the time, it was just one incident. May I remind you of a famous QB who was KNOWN for his partying and still did fine... Eli Manning.

I dont know if this thread is about something that really happened. If it is, i cannot understand why this is happening. With all the off field problems coupled with the opportunity of a lifetime at your disposal, why you would be doing that in public. He sure sounds like another "character". We already know his grades suck wind. Steve WILL NOT baby sit. If this really is a problem i say kick his ass off the team and go with guys who are committed to working hard and keeping thier noses clean. We need a team made up of "character", especially at qb. What has he done. This has been a very painful offseason. Looks like we still need to remove some weeds.

Whether he drinks or not is of no never mind to me. I watched spring practice. He is not worth a crap. Please tell him I said that. I am sure Spurrier has already told him that. Had a good spring game, yes. There was no rush. Watch him play against the rush. Perhaps coach Spurrier can ask that opposing defenses do not rush. Then perhaps he can complete 40% of his passes.

If you don't wanna believe me, that's fine. Just keep on showing your lack of rational thought. My "Deepthroats" have seen Mitchell in 5-Points almost on a daily basis and so did the State Newspaper. Actually, the article in The State newspaper talked about how much Blake Mitchell partied and spent time at 5 Points last year. It went on to discuss how he has committed himself to learning the playbook and decided to not go on Spring Break, but rather study the playbook to get ready for the Spring Game.

2350 yards passing, 59% completion rate, 17 passing TD's, 1 rushing TD, all in all I say he did pretty well considering we went from the stone age (offensively) to 2006 in 1 year. I think he did a great job and will have an even better 2006.....

He is a jerk. He's a classless person. I can tell you that after interacting with him several times in my english 101 class my freshman year, which he was repeating at the time.
Speaking of being an idiot, how stupid do you have to be to hit a bouncer?
Okay, the police report posted on here really doesn't do the story justice. I've talked to a few people who were either sitting on the patio at The Salty Nut Cafe or were actually at Pavlov's last night. They said Blake was causing a scene and even played the "Do you know who I am?" card. He was not going to leave until he got his underaged female friend into the bar. He caused a scene, and punched the bouncer. The pathetic thing is that he punched the bouncer after the bouncer turned his head. Blake was too much of a pansy to hit him during the confrontation.
Look, if you are going to go out and have fun, then do your thing. However, Blake spends too much time down in Five Points. He barely keeps good enough grades to play. He smokes cigarettes like none other, and he can be described as a "loyal patron" of Pavlov's. He has not shaped up since he got here, and now he may have swung at strike three. He's out.
I've supported Blake over the past year. However, I don't support stupidity, and I don't support people who are just flat out jerks. Blake Mitchell is just a flat out jerk. Throw a touchdown pass before you start acting like you own the bar.

I'm not elated that this happened. Granted, I have been disappointed of Mitchell's progress this year, but I wouldn't be happy that he's finished. After all, he is one of us.
To be honest, I don't think that this is the straw that broke the camel's back. He'll probably serve a 2-4 game suspension and that's all.
Personally, I think he should get booted. Every year at the same bar, he gets into some altercation. The "Boys will be boys" saying doesn't apply here. He had no business being out there at 2am with the way we're playing. PERIOD!

Bama did offer him a scolly, but they were too late. See, they had that man-crush with a prospect named Tebow.
Since USC saw the opportunity, Spurrier went in for the kill and signed Smelley. Only after Tebow commited to Florida, Bama then went crawling to Smelley and by then it was too late.

Yes a start against y'all might be just what he needs. I think he had a 67% completion %, 2 TD's, and 277 yards last year. Just the thing a kid needs to get his confidence back. Thanks for the offer. Think he LEAD the offense to 44 points that day. A bar fight with no weapons involved, no drugs involved, just a big mouth and a cheap shot involved, when I see Texas with players caught with weapons suspended for 1 game and Bama has a guy with drugs and a STOLEN weapon who did not even get suspended (spare me the crap about cleaning up the jail), this offense seems kind of mild in comparison don't you think. He will be dealt with, but to think that is a career ending offense in comparison to the others mentioned is a bit odd.

Last year, our DE Chase Pittman was involved in a bar fracas where he slapped some guy silly for harrassing a girl and touching her breasts. His punishment was fairly light (a couple of game suspensions, I think), but that was a far different scenario than the one Blake Mitchell was in. The guy Pittman slapped silly actually threw a punch at him first (foolish thing to do to a 6'3 250 pound guy). Blake Mitchell seems to have been the aggressor from the get-go. Still, it shouldn't be a career-ending punishment. He's a kid getting more recognition than he's ever had in his life. He's going to make some mistakes. Hopefully, he'll learn from this one.

He will be dealt with, but to think that is a career ending offense in comparison to the others mentioned is a bit odd.
I think the most important words in your post are "last year". My comment referred to "this year".
Most of your brethren seem to think Smelley is due in light of this continued idiocy, and I have to agree. Mitchell certainly hasn't shown much to this point in the season, on or off the field.
I knew a Cock would make your post before I hit the submit button for mine. You win the prize. Last year is last year, my friend. You can't count on the charity you received last year every year, but if you want to live in the past, that's your perogative.

Here's the guy that Mitchell blind-sided:

I think that maybe SC ought to trade in Blake Mitchell for that dude!!
Blake Mitchell needs to get over this..."Do you know who I am" CRAP and get over himself. Dude should have answered with...."yes I know who you are...you are SC's Crappy Arse Quarterback that was one of the factors in making us lose to Georgia, but I don't hold that against you."
Blake is from the town about 20 miles from me. I teach in that school system..in fact, hubby graduated from Lagrange High School and used to keep Blake Mitchell in church daycare when he was a little kid...LMAO!

Hmm are those details right? If the guy was touching a girls breasts, and threw the first punch, I can't imagine why Pittman would be punished at all. I'd buy him a beer, and think better of him.

I think the best thing for him would be a start THIS YEAR!!!! You haven't beaten us since 1999. So yes that was last year and the year before that, and the year before that...!!! But just so you don't think I live only in the past let me read your teams palm. You will tote a butt cutting on October 7 no matter who our QB is. You may see a little of Smelley, Mitchell, and Newton. Who knows who Spurrier will have out there. After all it is his prerogative. You might want to check the definition and spelling of that word as you have used it in an incorrect context.
To what charity are you referring. You seem to be insinuating that you gave a game away that you lost by 28 points. Maybe you were confused and thought we were talking about our game in the basketball tournament. I would consider that charity and thank you for it.
So thanks for playing, see you in October, I will be the obnoxious Gamecock fan at Malone's.

(a) We've been under investigation or on serious probation from 2000 to date, so congratulations on the wins, though I give you credit for beating a couple of the teams Coach Morris put on the field before leaving just as as the sanctions fell on us.
(b) You assume my error is in spelling, rather than typing.
(c) I'm merely taking the position that last year's score is not a clear indicator of the relative strength of those two teams, not that we threw away a "W", and again, that was last year.
(d) If you want a brat for a QB, I wish you luck. Say what you will, a lot of your fellow Cocks agree with me. I'm not trying to beat up on Mitchell to say something negative about your program.
We'll see what happens 10/7. I'm not telling you to put it in the loss column, only that I think you're kidding yourself if you already have it in the won column.
I believe you will be easy to pick out of the crowd at Malones.

WAAAAAAAH!!!! That's just too bad. See "Under the Tarnished Dome" for our previous coach's resume. Who the Heck is Coach Morris? We also whacked Mumme and Brooks!! :boohoo:

I also had a problem with the context in which you used the word.

We generally try to judge ourselves against other teams by score. However, with our all time winning percentage another method may benefit us as well. Could you explain. By the way UGA fans I judge us better than you regardless of the 18-0 score. This week we are using the criteria of whose QB at the end of the game was closest to his hometown.
(d) If you want a brat for a QB, I wish you luck. Say what you will, a lot of your fellow Cocks agree with me. I'm not trying to beat up on Mitchell to say something negative about your program.
He won't be the only one in D-1 I promise. If Syvelle or Smelley perform better that is fine. As to others agreeing with you, I bet if he had 6 TD's right now Gamecock fans would be a bit more lenient on the offense. I personally think a 1 game suspension is plenty for a bar fight.

I'll be there to celebrate the W.

I will be the good looking one. Find me and I will buy you a drink.
