There were nothing but backups on the LSU defense in the final moments when Arizona mounted its only serious threat of the game, but the no-name defense held to keep an impressive streak alive.
The Tigers defeated Arizona 45-3 Saturday night in Tiger Stadium and have now gone 14 quarters without allowing a touchdown to an opposing offense. That is the longest streak in the nation. The last offense to reach the end zone against LSU was Georgia in the first half of its 34-14 win in the Southeastern Conference championship game last season.
Miami lost 40-3 in the Peach Bowl. Louisiana-Lafayette fell 45-3 last week, and now Arizona.
"No one has said anything about that," LSU safety Craig Steltz said. "It's pretty cool, though."
It gets better. LSU's defense of second-year coordinator Bo Pelini is the first since the 1962 Tigers to hold a team without a touchdown of any kind in three consecutive games.
