Georgia quarterback Joe Tereshinski III, who started the No. 10 Bulldogs' first two games, has a high right ankle sprain and will miss four to six weeks and won't be available in the team's next three games, coach Mark Richt said Sunday.

Tereshinski's injury means highly regarded freshman Matthew Stafford, from Highland Park, Texas, will start at quarterback, beginning with Saturday's game against Alabama-Birmingham at Sanford Stadium.

"I don't think anyone's established themselves as a solid number one," Richt told The Associated Press. "I do think we've got more than one good answer. And hopefully one guy will settle this thing and we'll move on from there."

Stafford, who enrolled at Georgia in January and competed with Tereshinski and two other quarterbacks for the starting job, took over when Tereshinski was hurt in the first quarter in Saturday night's 18-0 win at South Carolina.

Stafford completed 8 of 19 passes for 171 yards and threw three interceptions. Redshirt freshman Joe Cox will be Georgia's backup quarterback.

Stafford showed alot of promise. He will settle down and not make as many mistakes in the future. Actually, he threw 5 interceptions, we just couldn't hold on to two of 'em. A better team would have badly beaten Georgia under those circumstances.

It's looking very good for Florida right now in the East.

I think Stafford is better then Joe T., and I think Georgia just didn't know how to work Stafford in to get him some reps. This is a good way, well its the only way. Things will be fine for UGA. He'll have some games before Tenn. to warm up, but I wouldnt underestimate UAB they'll bring it next week.

Depending on the outcome of the Florida Tennessee game, and thinking a Fla win, then the SEC East is Florida's to lose by default !

Actually, he only threw 1 interception. 1 of the ints was incredible defense by the SC back to steal it away and the other was a punt. His playing for a true freshman who did not get much practice time with the first team and then put into a game like that was as good as any Dog fan could have asked for and he will only get better.
