Talk about it in The Insiders Forum

Wadesboro (N.C.) Anson three-star wide receiver Michael Bowman committed to the South Carolina Gamecocks earlier this summer, but was unavailable for comment at the time of his decision. When reached Sunday night, Bowman discussed why he chose to continue his football career in Columbia.

Michael Bowman will play inside receiver at USC.
"South Carolina showed a lot of interest in me, and it was exciting to be one of their top recruit targets," the 5-foot-10, 170-pound Bowman said. "I went down there and toured the campus, and I liked it. There's a lot of excitement around their program right now, and I want to be a part of it."

Bowman, who chose USC over offers from Tennessee, Colorado, and East Carolina, also liked what he heard from head coach Steve Spurrier.

"He talked to me about what he thinks their program is going to be. He said he's looking for guys that want to be champions because his goal is to win the SEC. That has never been done at South Carolina, so it would be exciting to be on the team that does it for the first time."

Bowman, who has run the 40-yard dash in as low as 4.4 seconds, has also been getting to know his future position coach.

"I've been talking Steve Spurrier Jr. a lot, too. He showed me some film of their offense. He said he's going to use me as a slot receiver. He showed me how there's a lot of different ways to get the ball in my hands in their offense."

Bowman is excited about attending his first South Carolina game early this season.

"I'm going to be at their first home game against Georgia. I can't wait to see what it's like on game day."

Bowman has no plans at this time to take any other visits.

"It's all about South Carolina. I'll just take my official visit down there, and that will be it."
