Heck no it's not over. We'll see how USCE comes out in the 3rd. qtr.. If we can score or put a long drive together and stop the Cocks we should be fine. SHOULD be, barring any more int.'s.

What is everyone's opinion on Stafford?
Aside from the freshman mistake of trying to do too much on that fist INT, I think he has been pretty much as advertised and more. When Mark May says something good about UGA or a UGA player, you know he's something special.

Stafford is the real deal. I'd like to see Smelley start the 3rd, if for no other reason than to give Mitchell something to think about. Don't talk about the OL. Mitchell's been rushed but not sacked and he totally missed Jared Cook on wide open TD route. I'm sure it's been addressed already, but I don't have time to read 56 prior posts.

Man, Stafford's good play is being overshadowed by laziness on the receiver's part. I wouldn't be surprised to see Massoquoi benched again. He can't stop running. Anyhow, every mistake seems to be matched by a mistake by USC....Go get em' dawgs!

and this game is collasping very quickly.... our D is playing valiantly, but the offense is our biggest enemy, right now.....

we moved the ball fairly well down the field, but the drives mostly ended with neither a score, or a punt......
about the only thing we can take from this game that's positive is our young defense will be a good one all season, and Smelley will be a dependable backup...
I had marked the georgia game as a loss before the season, simply because they were defending SEC champs. As the game approached, and so many aspects about their team was up in doubt, I thought we could pull this game out, being in W-B and all. I was at least hoping that we could come out of this game - win or lose - with our heads held high, and giving GA a good, tough competitive game.
I don't get either of what I was hoping......

Watched the game to the end, which was hard to do......
Congrats UGA on the win. Although Stafford's stats won't look that great, he is the real deal. He showed great poise in being thrown into the game unexpectedly and showed great leadership. Your defense looked great as well.
As far as my Gamecocks, if they don't start getting the offense cranked up, and stop making stupid mistakes, then we're in for a long season (especially against the solid teams in the SEC). Maybe we can get some of these problems resolved in our next two games before we start facing the stiff competiton again. I was satisfied with our defense and thought they played a pretty decent game.

Tried to tell you Neo, the karma thing dude, in College ball, it's for real!
Dawgs proved themselves the better team and mistakes revealed that SCU is still a work in progress. I wasn't surprised nor shocked though and the game had all you'd want from a viewer's perspective in the excitement department.
But the shutout, now that's the BIGTIME aspect of this deal ain't it? Our kids didn't sweat anything about it until it seemed possible, yet you didn't get the feeling that they were sweating that last drive to the goal line either. If I were a chikin fan, I'd be feeling like it was just one of those days where little if anything goes your way and realizing that this team is young! Keep them heads up, the learning curve is swift in the SEC and Spurrier is the Dean of Professors. Two more recruiting classes and y'all are where SOS can assert matters but this year is FAR from over and your team is still trying to find itself just yet. Y'all will be just fine for the rest of 'em to deal with now. ;)
The post game gathering of players was very satisfying to see, both teams taking it in stride and showing some class.

Watched the game to the end, which was hard to do......
Congrats UGA on the win. Although Stafford's stats won't look that great, he is the real deal. He showed great poise in being thrown into the game unexpectedly and showed great leadership. Your defense looked great as well.
As far as my Gamecocks, if they don't start getting the offense cranked up, and stop making stupid mistakes, then we're in for a long season (especially against the solid teams in the SEC). Maybe we can get some of these problems resolved in our next two games before we start facing the stiff competiton again. I was satisfied with our defense and thought they played a pretty decent game.
Stafford looked decent but like you said his stats looked just so-so. I can't believe that this was a shutout but the Dawg's D looked pretty good tonight. I believe though (IMHO) that the Gamecocks started maybe the wrong QB tonight. Smelley looked good and this Alabama boy ought to be "The Man" for you in the upcoming years - if not later this year. His H.S. senior stats were awesome to say the least. Ya'll take care and see you next year!!.

"I can't stand watching our offense line up right now. We had some problems. We had a few drives here and there, but we kept stopping ourselves. Being held to 18 points, we should be playing a lot better and we're not. We'll make some changes; I'll announce them later. I just can't watch what we're doing now. If it means playing a bunch of freshmen, that's fine. I'm tired of watching this. We can't get it going. I take some of the blame. I called a lousy game, so we'll try to get better.
"The pass protection was pretty decent. We had some penalties and some things happen. Give Georgia credit. We only had the ball 24 times in the first half. A couple of drives we got close. We had our chances, but we're just stupid right now."
On junior quarterback Blake Mitchell:
"Blake did some good things and some so-so things other times. Blake hurt his hand. He sprained his right thumb, so he may be out for a while, but I don't really know."
On the play of Georgia:
"They were good. They played about what we thought they'd play. They don't change a lot and have good coaches. I'm just mad we stopped ourselves."
On what he thought South Carolina's chances were to defeat Georgia:
"I thought we had a chance to play with them. The defensive coaches are upset we didn't stop the run. Georgia ran the ball really well."
On the South Carolina offense:
"I didn't call a very good one. You throw the ball down to the 10-yard line and start running. I thought the short-yardage play would work, but we've gotten smashed on it this year.
"We just weren't out there that much. It didn't work out. We've got to make some changes and we will. I'm blaming myself. It's up to me as the offensive coach to make some changes. We're not going to play like this. We'll change the offense a little bit. Hopefully next week I'll be able to talk more and we'll get up and play."

Congrats to Georgia. My prediction was 19-17 USC. Georgia dominated the game from start to finish and we have a lesser team than we did last year, IMO. Mitchell should be benched and Smelley should be developed. The OL should be congratulated for doing a fine job. This defense played better than the offense but was on the field too long. Nonetheless, we looked like the young team that we are.
Delusions are now defined and we know what we have. Hopefully we will rebound. The only thing that will redeem this kind of loss would be to upset Auburn. With this team tonight, Auburn will beat us 49-3. We'll take 3 just to avoid a shut out. We could have scored tonight, but we were trying to get back into the game.
Mitchell has regressed and is worse than he's ever been IMO. He has no presence about him at all. He has no idea where to throw the ball and, as incredible as it may seem, has squandered his only chance to be a quality QB. I know there are those that will disagree with me, but he must sit down. We've given him 2 games to adjust. I'm not patient enough to give him any more chances. He has simply gotten worse. No, he has NOT improved, he has gotten worse. I don't think he has the mental capacity to learn our offense enough to know where everyone is on any given offensive play. At best, he's able to remember where 1 or 2 receivers may be. That's pathetic and won't cut it in the SEC.
My best wishes for the Bulldogs to win out. Stafford is an ACE and outplayed Tereshinski, IMO. He very well may win the NC for Georgia. It is a sad day to be a Gamecock, but I'll continue to follow and support our team. No doubt recruits that were there are wondering the same thing as I. But whatever happens, I'm a GamecockDiehard fan and always will be.

I'm not classless at all, I just tell it like it is. I'm a former player and I analyze the all the facets of the game and if I see your team is weak in the area or strong in this area, I'll so say. And, if you talk trash, with no logic behind it, I'm gonna let you know.........

I thought 1 positive thing we got out of this game was that our defense was able to hang in with the average/above average SEC offense. They played well considering what they had to deal with. They were out of the field a lot and there played hard out there. One concern I have is CB. Captain Munnerlyn is fast but I think he is a little too small for being a good CB in SEC. I hope I'm wrong and hopefully he can improve as the season goes on cause this was only his second game. Carlos Thomas needs to improve as well. Brinkley twins looked great out there no doubt. They are really helping out our defense.
I pray to god that Spurrier pulls Thind, Mitchell and another OL. I hope Smelley gets to start this next game and hopefully Anderson gets to start on the OL. If we are only going to win the games we are suppose to or even lose some games we are suppose to win, I hope we lose with our freshmen's in the game. There is no excuse for the OL playing that badly. There has got to be changes on the offense. Mike Davis is not looking nearly as good as he did late last year either. McKinley made some GREAT catches. Sidney needs to get the ball more and this might be a "sophmore slump" season for him. I still look for him to get 800-900 yards this season.

Good game for UGA. We came to play. We all knew UGA was going to run and USC didn't stop it. Both freshman QB's are going to be good down the road. Our "D" played great. We stopped the run all night except for a couple, but well under a hundred.
USC OL is horrible. #75 is a joke; you might want to pull that scholly. I thought he was going to cry on the sideline a few times and his teammates weren't helping him either. They were all over him. Spurrier blew up on the OL a few times when they were on the sidelines. Hunt had to run him off one time.
Surprised Spurrier talked so bad about the team. That is not going to help them. Did they make mistakes, yes, but come on his comments were terrible.
Look forward to Stafford growing over the course of the year. Hopefully, the next two games gets him ready for some good SEC competition down the road with TN coming to town.

the head coach for AF thought we were still in the 80's, and played for a 2-point conv. instead of a overtime-inducing, game-tieing PAT, and the play was muffed....
Tenn will win, 31 to 30.......
and this game is collasping very quickly.... our D is playing valiantly, but the offense is our biggest enemy, right now.....
That was absolutely insane with the OT we have now! CRAZY!

Something to the effect that we are "all dumbasses". On his show he was harping on lack of effort. That was an excuse last year. He shouldn't have that excuse now. All preseason he talked about how much effort the players were giving and that wouldn't be a problem.
One thing he needs to realize is when he was at Florida back in the 90's. His teams were always more talented, faster, etc. Over the years almost every team has realized the need for speed and have it. The talent is spread out throughout the league now. No one team is going to dominate like the Gators did during the 90's.
CArolina is young, but they will improve. However, he has recruited a lot of those players playing now becuase they are so young. Effort is not the main problem and he needs to realize that. Lack of talent may be a small part, but that is improving.
The last time Spurrier came over to blast the OL, Hunt had to tell him to get the F*$K away.

I can understand his disappointment since the guy hates losing. And even though he was angry afterwards, he knew that youth had to be served along the line of scrimmage. Facing two pretty good DL's in the first two games will only help the teaching the guys will get and the breather this weekend will allow for some tinkering with personnel. The problem wasn't so much the skill guys, who Carolina has enough of to knock off about anybody, as much as it was that UGA's D did a good job of never giving Mitchell two plays in a row to see the field and so he was pressing.
I thought the SC D played pretty darned good overall, special teams play was good, and that kicker is going to win y'all some more games before it's over.

the thing that i find interesting is the fact that last year all of us Gamecock fans were more worried about our offense and thought the strength of our team would be the defense. but it turned out the offense was the strength. now this year we were all worried about the Defense and thought our offense was going to be very good. but now it seems as if our Defense is the strength of our team.
maybe in a game or two our offense can come alive and we wont have to worry about either side of the ball next year.

I'll be a good sport and say that even though I thought that we would win in a low scoring defensive battle, the offense failed to show up yet again. As I posted in another thread, with this lack of production and looking at our schedule, I no longer see any "gimmies". I will continue to pull for them, however, I am going to be a little more critical because if the best improvement comes between weeks 1 and 2, then we won't be going bowl-ing this year.
