The key for LSU to defeat Arizona will be to establish a running game early to open up the passing game. Our receivers have a real advantage over the Arizona defensive secondary, and should get behind them on man coverage. Using Alley Broussard, Charles Scott and Keiland Williams should establish the running game. Williams did not carry the ball but two times against ULL, but he looked very impressive in the two carries. I would avoid using Justin Vincent since he had such a poor showing in game one. Stoops (the Arizona coach) is a very good defensive strategist, so the Wildcats will definitiely not be a pushover.

LSU 28 - Arizona 10

They better not win by 18. They better cover the spread.

you are right on w/your analysis..........if I were LSU's coach, having the luxury of two good backups, I would make Russell a running threat in this game, have some plays where he naked bootlegs, delayed sneaks up the middle so if you are running the ball and throwing/catching well with Russell a new running threat you could muck up some defenses

I would make Russell a running threat in this game

They've never let him run with the ball despite the fact that he was a running QB coming out of HS.

I would kill to see the naked bootleg back in LSU's arsenal. Did anyone hear Mike Stoops talking about DEATH VALLEY in saying, i don't remember his exact words but something to the affect of "It's just noise that the fans make, no big deal, they can't come on the field and eat you." Apparently he's never been in the kind of environment he's going to be in Sat. evening. To say that a rowdy crowd makes no differance in a game, any game LSU or not, is just plain dumb.

At least stop with throwing of beer bottles and crap at the Visiting Team's Bus. Though the whole putting Mike by the area where the Visiting Team comes out onto the field probably makes for some intimidation too.

Pelini and Stoops grew up in same town and went to the same high school. Pelini grew up with four football-playing older brothers and around four football-playing brothers from the Stoops family in Youngstown — a city of 78,000 near the Ohio-Pennsylvania border.

I would really like to see Hester have a good game. Both Scott and Williams have been getting alot of talk and especially Williams since he got on campus. Have heard he is a sharp guy and already has the playbook solid. Guess its more of an underdog thing but Hester is due. As for Vincent, who knows what he is gonna do. TPM, I read a few things from Stoops also and I got the same impression. Those Arizona boys will not want anymore SEC football after they leave Baton Rouge.

Hester is sooooo dependable! Good running back, good blocker, catches passes well; just an all-around outstanding athlete. Keiland Williams, from what I saw of him, is likely to be awesome. His legs are huge and powerful, and he starts quicker than any back I can remember; he even has the potential to unseat Alley Broussard in the pecking order before season's end. He's as strong a power-runner as Alley, and faster than Justin Vincent; nice combination! Oh, and Charles Scott isn't bad!

Didn't one of Arizona's linebackers or defensive lineman originally sign with LSU?

I think your talking about a joco guy that came down to chosing LSU or Arizona. His name escapes me. But he his suppose to be a stud. A stud who picked the wrong place to go, but a helluva player none the least. Hey woohawg, Let me know when your coming to BR for a game. We got plenty of cold beer to talk football over.

I will for sure. Think we will be making it down there for at least two games...not sure which ones yet but I will give you a holler.

Didn't one of Arizona's linebackers or defensive lineman originally sign with LSU?I think it might have been Ronnie Palmer of Spring, Texas.

Man, I was looking forward to Less-U's WRs vs. the Zone's secondary.

I thought I remembered reading they had some talent back there this year......

Must have been ESPN because nobody else would say a PAC-10 team had a talented secondary.

while it's a good point that JaMarcus could, and probably should, run a little bit more, to say that he should because he has two good backups is not a good reason. i agree that he is a great runner and can run over ppl and it would add another dimension to our already potent offense. but i dont think you should say that we should run him BECAUSE we have two good backups. that makes it sound like JaMarcus is expendable, which i don't think he is. while Flynn and Perrilloux are both great QBs, they don't have the experience that JaMarcus has. so i think that JaMarcus gives us the best opportunity to win ballgames. would i like to see him run a little bit more? sure. but not at the expense of his health and the number of W's we post. i'm sure JaMarcus will scramble out of the pocket every now and then, but don't expect him to be Vince Young, because with our offense, he just doesn't need to.

If Miles will keep the pressure on with Alley Broussard, Keiland Williams, and Charles Scott, the passing game ought to go great guns! Also, I want to see how our defensive line works. Last week they used that odd 3-3-5 just for Lafayette's spread, and we didn't get to see Glen Dorsey or Marlon Favorite at their QB rushing best. This week we'll see the 4-3-4 and Dorsey and Favorite should shine.

Another great performance by LSU, seems like next weekend's matchup will likely decide the who represents the West in the SEC Championship Game. LSU seems to be moving the ball very well and has had no trouble shutting down other teams on Defense. The LSU Defense held Arizona to just 152 yards of Total Offense with only 35 of those coming on the ground. The defense was absolutely stifling and the offense was extremely efficient. The offense posted an evenly balanced 461 total yards, with 230 through the air and 231 on the ground. Four different players found the endzone for LSU, and three of those were running backs. Jacob Hester had a combined 96 yards rushing and receiving to go along with two TDs. Charles Scott once again looked very dangerous, taking the ball 4 times for 47 yards and a TD. 7 different LSU receivers caught passes and 9 different players finished with positive rush yardage for the Tigers.

Bottom line is that this LSU team looks very diversified and able to score from just about anywhere on the field, with the ball in anyone's hands. If the defense continues its suffocating play against the other Tigers, Kenny Irons and Auburn are going to be staring at their first SEC loss after Week 3 is over. It should be a great matchup and I can't wait to see it. The only thing that would make this one better is if it was a night game in Death Valley.

Great post, Shank! I totally agree, and I couldn't have said it better myself. Coupled with a stifling defense, the diversity of the LSU offense makes them one of the best teams in the nation.

Arizona Coach Mike Stoops on LSU...

“They’re big and they’re fast,” Stoops said. “You can see their speed. You see their size and speed across the board on both sides of the ball. They’ve got those big receivers that really run well and JaMarcus, when we got pressure he stepped up and just made plays. We never had rhythm defensively. Their personnel makes it difficult across the board.”

From the Arizona paper:
http://www.azstarnet.com/sports/146033

"We stepped up a class to the heavyweight division, obviously, tonight," UA coach Mike Stoops said. "We weren't ready for this. We have to execute better."
