Mark Richt gave Carolina a great compliment this week saying he compares Carolina's defense very much to his own at UGA. Said he plans to spend more time this week watching their tapes. Spurrier agreed saying the Carolina defensive players are more aggressive and faster than last years team.

Carolina's defense is arguably better than Georgia's. Speed, speed, and more speed. We're going to try and keep it close and have a shot in the 4th quarter, but I'm not holding my breath. Good luck.

If USC's offense doesnt show up like last week, this game wont be close. Our defense will tire out UGA will whip us.

Mitchell needs to be practicing TODAY! I was glad to hear Spurrier say he was going to run the defensive scout team at full speed against our OL. I knew coaches had to ask Jasper Blaster to slow down in practice or he was going to kill somebody, but I was surprised that the OL wasn't getting tested at full speed.

I agree he needs all the practice he can get, but the docs want to give it another day to heal just to be sure it doesn't infected. I'm sure they'll take a look at it before practice today and if it's healed enough they'll let him practice tonight.
As far as the D is concerned....I know they're going to make some stupid mistakes eventually due to their inexperience but I can forgive that. It's just so nice to finally have a defense that is very aggressive and very fast at the same time.

Mitchell was in the hospital last night from what I understand. Will be back at practice tomorrow.

SC's defense is NOT faster than Georgia's. It's good, but seriously...

You dont need to say anything about defense's after your defense gave up 50 points.

Ha, a little defensive? The truth will do that to you.
You guys need to worry about your offense more than your defense.

Our Offense will come along just fine....we have the experience and the players to get things done, now that the first game is out the way Spurrier knows what he needs to do to get things running properly!

no one even said we were faster than Georgia. a dawg fan said our team was 'speed, speed, speed' and a Cock fan said the team was much faster than our team from last year.

Speaking of getting things running properly, it looks as though Syvelle is gonna have to teach Mike Davis how to hit his holes again. Boyd looked very good if he can hold onto the ball a lil better, but Davis seemed a little timid at hittin the holes.

Davis just needed a game to get things together. Look for better things from him. Boyd is a beast.

For as highly touted as Mike Davis is..he has shown nothing. He dances, and moves sideways and always seems to go down as soon as he is hit. Compared to Boyd who seemed to pull MSU guys with him, Davis needs some serious help. It didnt help Mitchell that he mostly had Davis in the backfield and not Boyd.

Coach Richt is very complimentary of almost every team we play. He is not one to trade smart ass jabs with other coaches or get involved in a drama filled, great for TV moment with other coaches. He should compliment USC's defense, they are good, and they will get better.

I like Richt alot. If we couldn't have Spurrier Richt would definitly be my first choice. But I don't see him ever leaving UGA. That being said, I don't think our defense is anywhere near as good as UGA's. While they are better the last year, I question whether it was the opponent's lack of offense or our defense, I tend to think it was the lack of MSU offense.

I think it was a little of both...our defense has improved, and MSU's offense wasn't all that. I think our defense can keep us in the game vs UGA, but I believe the key to it will be our OL. It's going to be hell trying to keep Moses out of Blakes face. We probably can't stop Moses. And if he's back there the whole game, our offense won't be on the field long. Then our defense gets tired....you get the point. Let's hope the OL improves this week!

It is going to be a slobber knocker in Columbia this weekend. I really see it being a defensive battle. The team that can give their defense a little help in the fourth is going to win it. I'm thinking another close game like 17-13. I can't wait.

Are you being serious? Maybe our secondary is better than yours (or it was the last few years), but the rest of the defense? Wow, that's good to hear from a UGA fan. I hope you're right, but IMO you guys prob have more talent @ D. I will say the game should be close no matter who wins.....

Georgia didn't pile up the yards against I-AA WKU. Think they're going to roll into Cola where they've had trouble forever and pound it up Spurrier's ass? I don't think so. I just want it to be close and have a shot in the 4th. Bad bad feeling.

I was wondering if anyone was going to mention Johnson. Especially when Q calls him just as good, if not better, than himself. Go ahead and double Q and let Johnson pick up where he left off. Being that the game is always close, our OL is worrisome to me anyway, our receivers apparently have forgotten what they learned in fall camp, I too don't get that real warm and fuzzy feeling about this one.

One of the reasons this is such an exciting series (albeit one sided for W's), IMO, both teams get much more ready for this game, from a mental standpoint.
Some complain about it coming so early, but I think it's a game that wakes players up. They get pumped for going at one another, more so than for a WKy or CFU (in 05).
I believe our team tried to get-up for an important SEC road game and did what was necessary to win, but clearly, some of our players didn't know the season had started. Hopefully, they'll get their heads on straight this week.
It's just a hunch, but I'll bet both teams put on a show this Saturday. The intensity will be palpable and the winner will be in the driver's seat for the east, at least until November.

Both teams will be wanting to prove to the world early on that they are the real deal this year. It should be a great game to watch. Hopefully the OSU/Texas game will be a blowout and the nation will in tune into one of the better games of the year in SC vs. UGA.

I agree with GDH, both teams should be ready. I expect to see the best out of each - that being said, it looks like a comfortable win for GA to me.

Here is my take on the game:
1. South Carolina's offense will have to play much better than they did against Mississippi State or they will get killed. Georgia's defense is at least as good as MSU's, and Quentin Moses and Charles Johnson will tear apart the Offensive Line that showed up last Thursday. Sidney Rice needs to be more involved, and Boyd will have to have the same kind of game that he had last Thursday. If Boyd can bang up the Georgia defense and provide enough of a running game for South Carolina, then Mitchell might get a little more time to hit Rice and Newton on their passing routes.
2. South Carolina's defense will get a huge boost from shutting out MSU. But I think that if they don't start off where they left off they will get frustrated. They need to come up with a big stop or a big play on the first offensive possession against Georgia to keep them in the game. Obviously, the offense has to give them a break.
3. Georgia needs to score early to break SC's confidence. If they can drive down the field and put up 7 points early, SC's defense may lose some confidence. That would also allow the defense a little bit of a cushion to send the heat at Mitchell. The more pressure they put on the O-Line of SC the better. If they can get to Mitchell early and rattle him they can take him out of the game. He just didn't look like the same as he did last year after he left the game and it looked like he was afraid of getting hit again. I thought this timidity threw off his accuracy in the MSU game.
4. I expect this to be a pretty close game unless Georgia gets on a roll and grinds it out against SC's defense. If SC's offense can keep the defense off the field it should be a close one. The game being in Colombia should definitely help SC out.

Hey USAFGAMECOCK, I see that you are in Byron. How long have you been there? I grew up in middle Georgia and there is some great HS football there. We have had a few of them at USC, but most of them gravitate to UGA or GATECH. A few have even played at UF. Jaquez Green was from Fort Valley. Gator fans will remember him. Maybe you need to get out there and do a little recruiting for us.
By the way, do you get to fly the jets? Pilots used to love to fly low over us. They would make the dogs nervous.

Thanks USAF. Don't worry, I get all kinds of grief being in the heart of Gamecock country. There are fans everywhere that are idiots. I work with a lot of them, come to think of it. It's gonna be a good one. Hopefully, I can enjoy the game without having to worry about antagonizing fans.

Yeah I live in Byron. Obviously, I'm not from here, just stationed here at Robins. You're right about the football around here. I see some of these HS players from the schools around here, and they look like grown ass men!
I'm no longer in the flying business....I originally came in to the AF as a navigator, then had a change of heart, and now I'm a logistics officer. I miss flying, but being in logistics will help me out with a job when I get out...which will be fairly soon.

You are off on this remark.
Highly touted? Mike Davis was a 3-star RB prospect. I think he was ranked #25 in the country. He started as a freshman because Cory Boyd was suspended. He was everything you would expect a freshman running back to be. He started off slow and learned as the year went on. He'll do the same throughout his career, but I think it's a little unfair to expect him to be an All-SEC back. He's going to be solid. What he and Bobby Wallace needed was a redshirt. Unfortunately, the stoners on the team forced them to be thrown into the fire last season.

WB said it right. Davis and Wallace got thrust into the forefront way too early and had to learn the SEC the hard way.
