One year after Hurricane Katrina smashed into the Mississippi Gulf Coast and destroyed the local gambling industry, the pace of casino reopenings has picked up. Grand Casino Biloxi went back in business two weeks ago, becoming the sixth casino to reopen. Hollywood Casino in Bay St. Louis and the Island View Casino in Gulfport will both reopen next month, followed by the new Silver Slipper casino in Hancock County, which will open in October. Beau Rivage, the glitziest casino in south Mississippi, will reopen Tuesday. The Beau already has a lineup of big name entertainment booked for appearances, with Jay Leno and Tony Bennett both appearing in September.
