LSU freshman running back Richard Murphy (http://www.lsusports.net/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=5200&ATCLID=233508) has been cleared by the NCAA and can report to campus immediately, head coach Les Miles (http://www.lsusports.net/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=5200&ATCLID=174019) announced on Friday. Murphy, from Rayville, La., becomes the final Tiger to get cleared by the NCAA, joining defensive tackle Al Woods (http://www.lsusports.net/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=5200&ATCLID=233526), defensive back Tyson Andrus (http://www.lsusports.net/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=5200&ATCLID=523286), offensive lineman Steven Singleton (http://www.lsusports.net/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=5200&ATCLID=233521) and running back Keiland Williams (http://www.lsusports.net/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=5200&ATCLID=233525).

Murphy comes to LSU after earning first-team all-state honors at Rayville High School. He capped his career ranked fifth on the Louisiana all-time high school rushing list with 7,059 yards.

Richard Murphy is a 6’1”, 195 running back who has the talent to play several positions including wide receiver or cornerback, but I have not heard of any plans to move Murphy to a new position. Coach Miles recently had great things to say about Murphy as a player. Coach Miles signed three highly touted running backs in the last signing class (Charles Scott, Keiland Williams and Richard Murphy), and my guess is that one of the three players will receive a redshirt year.

I know that Coach Miles and his coaching staff are happy that the clearinghouse mess is finally over. Coach Miles signed 26 players in the last recruiting class thinking that one or two players would not have the grades to enroll at LSU as true freshmen and thought that the chances of Jared Mitchell passing up the big bucks to play pro baseball and enroll at LSU to play football and baseball were no better than 50-50. At this time, the only two players from the 2006 signing class who will most likely never play at LSU are Jason Teague and Phil Loadholt. Teague has enrolled at a junior college for two years and Loadholt has returned to Garden City Junior College and plans to enroll at Oklahoma in January. Shomari Clemmons' plans are to re-sign with LSU in December. Charles Deas is enrolled at Desire Street Academy in Baton Rouge and will re-sign with LSU next February. It appears at this time that the 2006 signing class is going to be one of the better LSU signing classes in the last five or six years.

Isn't it amazing how quickly a loan will clear once the LSU crowd at Hibernia Bank starts pulling strings.

Yeah, we've been taking lessons from Bobby Lowder and that famous Bama financier ole what's-his-name (I'll call Phat Phil to get the particulars).
