Highsmith Added To Butkus Watch List

LSU linebacker Ali Highsmith (http://www.lsusports.net/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=5200&ATCLID=175010) had his name added to another national award watch list on Thursday as he is among 65 players named to the preliminary list for the Butkus Award, the Downtown Athletic Club of Orlando announced.

Highsmith, a junior from Miami, Fla., is also on the watch list for the Bednarik Award (http://www.lsusports.net/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=5200&ATCLID=294201), which goes annually to the top defensive player in college football.

i know Ali is a great player, but i must admit i really didn't think he would be getting this much preseason attention. this is really good for us. hopefully he can turn in a good season and be the anchor for this defense along with LaRon and our secondary. we're going to need it as we try to replace our defensive line. Glenn Dorsey should be an absolute hoss in the middle, and with Ali in the linebacking corp our RunD should be in pretty good shape.

Ali Highsmith is a top notch linebacker. The reason you probably didn't think a whole lot about him is because last year he was somewhat overshadowed by Cameron Vaughn and Claude Wroten and Kyle Williams on the Defensive Line. Don't worry, he'll get plenty of attention this year. He's the best linebacker on LSU's roster and he is one of the best in the SEC.
