It was just announced over a Baton Rouge radio station that premier running back Keiland Williams from Lafayette was just approved by the Clearinghouse. He is making the short 50 mile trek from Lafayette to Baton Rouge as we speak and will join the team immediately. He has been running and working out in Lafayette, so he should be in pretty good shape. We can use his speed this season!

Wow that's huge for us! You don't think there's any chance he'll red-shirt this year do you Geaux?

I think he'll play. They could really use his speed. It gives us a new dimension in the rotation of the running backs. Hester as a power back, Vincent is a slasher and somewhat of a power back, and Scott and Williams are speedsters. I really like the looks of this!

Yeah Williams should definitely play. Just like Geaux said, LSU already has the power running backs in Broussard and Hester, and even at times Vincent. They are going to have a dangerous tandem in Charles Scott and Keiland Williams. Both of these guys have some wheels and they should get the reps after the other guys bang up the defense. I would think that the majority of the carries will go to Broussard, Vincent and Hester. But after that, I think that Williams and Scott will pick up a lot of yardage on tired, worn-down defenses. I would say LSU has one of the deepest, if not the deepest, running backs corp in the SEC.
With his speed and agility, I say that Williams is almost a lock not to red-shirt.

The next-to-last missing piece — and perhaps the most significant — of LSU’s freshman class was cleared to play and practice Thursday.
Former Northside High School of Lafayette star running back Keiland Williams was cleared by the NCAA and allowed to join the Tigers, 3 1/2 weeks after most of the team got started.
Williams, the Class 4A Offensive Most Valuable Player in 2004, spent last season at Hargrave Military Academy in Virginia. The 5-foot-11 223-pounder became the first back in that program’s history to eclipse 1,000 yards rushing (1,325) and scored 12 touchdowns.
In his last year at Northside, Williams ran for more than 2,500 yards and 30 TDs.
Thursday he was in a jersey, helmet and shorts and ran through non-contact drills.
Neither Williams nor LSU coach Les Miles spoke to the media Thursday.
But earlier this week Miles alluded to how quickly Williams and Richard Murphy — a running back still waiting to get through the Clearinghouse — will be able to fit into the Tigers’ offensive plans.
Freshman Al Woods, another late arrival, has already moved into the primary rotation on the defensive line and Miles said he would likely play against Louisiana-Lafayette when LSU opens the season against the Ragin’ Cajuns on Sept. 2.
“Running back spot is a little different,” Miles said. “There’s a little more to learn than the defensive tackle spot. I’m not going to rule anybody out at this point. Hopefully, they can get through the Clearinghouse and let’s go.”
Williams is the fourth of five players whose arrival was delayed, apparently by the NCAA Clearinghouse.
The last is Murphy, who finished his career at Rayville as the state’s fifth all-time leading rusher with 7,059 yards.
Murphy’s delay is related to some high school courses he re-took successfully and an ACT score that increased dramatically.
The Clearinghouse flagged Murphy’s transcript until Rayville coach Bo Barton could provide documentation on the courses and tutoring Murphy received to increase his test score.
