BATON ROUGE -- True freshman Al Woods just had his first day in full pads on Monday, and he is already in a playing role at defensive tackle.

"He's going to play," LSU coach Les Miles said after practice Monday. "I don't think we're going to red-shirt him. He'll play."

Woods, a 6-foot-5, 325-pound Parade All-American from Elton, is behind senior walk-on Leo Deselle, sophomore Charles Alexander and starting tackles Marlon Favorite, a sophomore, and junior Glenn Dorsey

"He's looking good," Dorsey said. "He's working hard. He's got to get some of the young tendencies out of him. I told him to stay low and come off hard. He's going to get better and better each day. He's so strong man. He's looking real good, but he's only been out here a couple days."

Woods just joined the team on Friday after missing the first two weeks as his academic record had to be approved by the NCAA Clearinghouse. He was not able to practice in full pads until Monday, according to NCAA rules that say incoming players have to practice three times before full contact in full pads.
