Maisel nailed this one. Sort of explains our rabid passion and loyalty to our schools.

The appeal of college football is rooted in the simple notion that your team represents you, your state, your alma mater, your youth. The NFL represents -- what, exactly? A bunch of 25-year-old millionaires who will dump your town the minute their agent secures a better offer. There is no loyalty in the NFL. College football is all about loyalty.

Excellent read, thank you for posting it. I enjoy the NFL but in no way compares to college football, not even close.

Not a chance that the NFL will ever have the rivalries of college football.

Spoken like a true prophet.

Total agreement. He could have just stopped with the one word, though - PASSION

I remember one season back in the eighties, when the Atlanta Falcons finally had a good football team; that particular season alone, they were fun to watch. And do you know why?:
Because they played like college players!
They played with a passion equal to that of any decent college football team, because they were unused to winning.
[The rest of the time, pro teams look like a bunch of automatons (robotic and stilted).]

College Athletes play for HEART !
Pros' play for MONEY !
College Football will always be my Favorite to watch, but I still catch a few pro games to see how the rookies are coming along.(Eli Manning)

Yeah that's pretty much the only reason I watch anymore. It's fun to watch guys like Cadillac and Ronnie Brown, Michael Clayton and all the other great players that come out of the SEC in the pros.
Oh, BTW, Reggie Bush is absolutely going to dominate for us this year. He has been stunning in camp and broke off a 44 yard run on his second carry in our first pre-season game. Watch out NFL!!!
