Seriously. Auburn appears to be the team to get it done in the West. After that, it will be a knockdown dragout for 2nd, 3rd, etc. LSU is loaded with talent. Alabama lost some defensive players and a QB, but the defensive reserves played a ton last year and they have a stable of backs to help JPW get comfortable. Arkansas and Ole Miss are rebuilding, but there are some dangerous players on those two teams. Hey, the East will be just the same, but there is no clear favorite to win it. Georgia? Florida? You've got to feel that UT will be back with a vengeance this year. And NO ONE should look past the ole ball coach with an extra year of recruiting under his belt at SC. The SEC is tough every year, but this season will be bloody murder. I love it.

I just don't believe Auburn can beat LSU; in Jordan-Hare or anywhere else. You are kidding yourself if you think Brandon Cox can throw like JaMarcus Russell. You are kidding yourself if you think Irons will have a big day against the Tiger defense. You are kidding yourself if you think your secondary can keep up with the Tiger WRs. You are kidding yourself if you think Alley Broussard won't put on a power-running display for Muschamp to see. Watch for JaMarcus to light it up in J-H. Leave your cigars at home, boys!

I think a lot of people have forgotten about JaMarcus Russell. A lot of people saw that he was inconsistent last year and so as soon as Matt Flynn had his MVP performance against Miami, people immediately assumed there would be a controversy. There is no controversy. JaMarcus Russell made coutless clutch plays last year, including a game-winning TD to Craig Davis. JaMarcus Russell, quite simply, gets the job done. He has a 14-2 record as a starter. Argue against that all you want and say that the controversy will hurt LSU. Bull. LSU will be solid this year and the guys behind JaMarcus aren't going to do anything but make him play better.

It has to be be between LSU and Auburn in the west, Then it is a fight as everyone tumbles for the remaining spots,, I think Both State and OM will be improved but can we pull out of the bottom, That remains to be seen, I think we can both surprise some folks this year but no preditions on who, We always keep it a big secret! HA ,, Hey it iis almost time, Time to quit smacking and get ready for reality, We are all undefeated and looking up right now,, Can't wait to see who stays afloat and who sinks. Let's have fun...

DC Bo Pelini says that the D line may be better than last year. Charles Alexander, Ricky Jean Francois and Al Jones are super stars of the future. Glen Dorsey will be on everyone's All-American list. He is simply a monster. Pelini said Sunday of Dorsey, “On the defensive line, I’m sure everybody is wondering who’s doing well there. Glenn Dorsey, I feel is as good a d-tackle as there is going to be in the country. I feel real good about him." Marlon Favorite is another D lineman that you'll hear a lot about.
Don't kid yourself; this Tiger D-line will be stout!

JaMarcus Russell will be the best QB in the SEC.
You are, my man, an amazing football prophet; completely anointed with the truth! I feel that this will be an amazing breakout year for JaMarcus. He's 6'6" and 260 lbs. with no fat, and stronger than ever. He's got an excellent corps of WRs and a fleet of backs that can catch it out of the backfield, plus a couple of good TEs. I look for him to be a darkhorse for the Heisman as the year progresses. The blessed QB from Notre Dame and the RB from Okie are the media darlings right now, but once JaMarcus gets rolling and the TV colormen and Sportscenter pick him up, a Heisman could happen. And, if he has that kind of year, he'll enter the draft and won't stay for his senior season.
I just can't see Arkansas finishing above Alabama this year.

They are pretty close, for sure, but the Bama OL is still questionable; can they protect new QB John Parker Wilson? Can they open any holes for Darby? Also, their D is a shadow of its old self; not the same.
The Hogs have some of the same problems, but a runner who is a degree or two above Darby.
And, although Shula is a classy fellow, I don't think he can coach as well as Nutt. A lot of porkers don't like Nutt, but I do. I think he's good.
I think the Hogs get it done this year against Bama.

Which leaves LSU with Ryan Perilloux. Who wouldn't give their left leg to have him at QB? LSU is loaded.

Well believe it bud, anything can happen in the SEC. No doubt LSU has talent accross the board, but If Vandy can beat UT in Knoxville, Auburn can beat LSU at home. You are kidding yourself if you think anything in the SEC is a given. It will definately be a heck of a game either way.

Yeah, but the Hawgs have a high school coach for an OC. Im not saying that he wont be successful there, but he will certainly experience growing pains. Throw in the fact that the offense he is wanting to run is the exact opposite of what Nutt has ran and those pains are magnified. Dont get me wrong, at this point I think Arky. has a decent shot at knocking off Bama...but I will wait to see how this offense unfolds before making any concrete predictions. Remember, Nutt has never had an OC at Arkansas before...this could lead to some butting heads.

Your QB is no match for JaMarcus.
Your vaunted RB is good, but probably no better than Broussard, plus our depth at RB is tremendous without a perceivable drop-off.
Your WRs can't begin to compete; with speed or pass-catching-ability.
Your D line is good, but I think you'll see that ours is better and that big Glen Dorsey (who Coach Miles called "unstoppable" this week) will be wrapping up Irons like a Christmas package in your backfield all day.
Your secondary is not as fast or as good or as deep as ours.
Our OLs are about even.

I think Auburn will have trouble with the schedule. Everyone talks about difficult games for UF, etc., but the barn has UF, a third-week matchup with less-U, Arkansas (one of Steele's most improved teams for 2006), Georgia, and a final date @ bama, which is still a tough place to play with or without Prothro. If you want to do so, you could probably even make the argument that MSU or Ole Miss can sub for UT from the East with the way the Vols played last year. Yes, Tennessee will likely be better in '06, but both MSU and Ole Miss should be better, too.
So, you have to think Auburn will stumble along the way without a break, which should be just enough for less-u to sneak in and take the west. I don't see less-U losing more than 2 conference games, and I definitely don't see Auburn running the table like they did in 2004.
That doesn't leave a lot of wiggle room. Whoever wins the head-to-head battle should take the division imo.

Why isn't Cox no match for JaMarcus is it that fact that he can't run? JaMarcus is coming back from injury and so are your great backs so to speak. What makes you think they will be ready for that third game??? With that OL he should be able to throw all day the only problem is if the WR can catch. We got Taylor back. Irons isn't the only good back we have Brad Lester is about on the same level. Our D last year held your high potent O to 10 points and people are saying this years D is better than last. I wouldn't be suprised if the D wipes JaMarcus all the way up the filled like we did to bama's qb last year.

Upfront on Auburn this year are two new starters. Thompson NG most likely the strongest man in the SEC and a soph at DT named Pat Sims who has been throwing Duckworth our all-sec guard around in practice. LSU had nobody that could that to him last year.
Another bit of bad news for you.
Guess who showed up and reported today?
Greg Smith L 6-3 315 Chattanooga, TN (Tyner/NE Mississippi J.C.)
JC/HIGH SCHOOL: Originally signed with the Tigers as a high school senior out of Tyner High in Chattanooga * Ranked No. 5 on the Rivals.com Junior College Top 100 list as a five-star prospect and the nation's top defensive tackle * Helped Northeast Mississippi rank fourth in the nation in 2005 in total defense (186.9) and rushing defense (59.0) and 11th in pass defense (127.9) * Made the All-State Juco team as a freshman after recording 37 tackles for loss * Was the Tennessee Division II Lineman of the Year after making 164 tackles with 37 tackles for loss, 11 forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries as a senior for Tyner High School, which went 12-2 and advanced to the state playoffs * Was a three-year starter on both sides of the ball in high school *
I think Broussard will have his hands full......
As far as matching up at runningback... I would take ours over yours..
1. Kenny Irons (over 200 yards against LSU last year)
2. Brad Lester (who was the starter last year before getting hurt)
3. Carl Stewart (Ronnie Browns role)
4. Tre Smith
5. Ben Tate
6. Mario Fannin
5 & 6 are true freshmen and both look really good. Tate is my candidate not to redshirt.

And Tre Smith; what is he, about a 7th year senior? Seems like he's been around forever and he seems to be getting worse each year. Last year he was the pits. Didn't he fumble some critical kickoffs or punt returns?
If JaMarcus doesn't light up J-H for about three aerial TDs, I'll be surprised. It should be a great game, as it always is between these two, however, I just don't think you can beat us. But, you and most of the Auburn faithful think you can, and that's what makes this so much fun.

Geaux,
Here is a paste of an article from ESPN Insider ranking the RB combinations.
1. California Golden Bears
Marshawn Lynch and Justin Forsett
Marshawn Lynch
Jonathan Ferrey/Getty Images
Cal's Marshawn Lynch rushed for 1,246 yards last season.
2. Auburn Tigers
Kenny Irons, Brad Lester, Carl Stewart and Tre Smith
Irons emerged as the workhorse last year after sitting out the 2004 season as a transfer (South Carolina). The 5-foot, 11-inch, 200-pound back displayed an outstanding combination of vision, burst and strength, as he racked up 1,293 yards and 13 touchdowns on 256 carries in 2005. Irons will headline the Tiger ground attack once again this fall, but Lester, Stewart and Smith provide excellent depth behind him. Lester is the fastest of the three reserves, while Stewart is the biggest. Smith has the best combination of skills but he hasn't been the same since a 2004 shoulder injury.
3. Michigan Wolverines
Mike Hart, Kevin Grady and Carlos Brown
Thomas B. Shea
4. Texas Longhorns
Jamaal Charles and Selvin Young
5. Arkansas Razorbacks
Darren McFadden and Felix Jones
McFadden lived up to the hype as a freshman last season when he rushed for 1,113 yards on just 176 carries. He runs low to the ground, displaying outstanding vision, initial quickness and power. Unfortunately, McFadden's poor decision making off-the-field will cost him playing time. He suffered a dislocation in a joint in his big left toe during a fight outside a nightclub.
With McFadden expected to miss at least the first two games of this season, Jones must shoulder the majority of the load vs. USC and Utah State. Jones possesses adequate size and power, but his dangerous second-gear makes him a big-play threat in the open field. Jones' versatility is also a bonus; he catches the ball well out of the backfield and provides an explosive dimension in the return game.
The Hogs have another weapon in FB Peyton Hillis, who is effective as a runner, receiver and blocker. Look for Hillis' carries to increase while McFadden is out.
6. TCU Horned Frogs
Robert Merrill, Lonta Hobbs and Aaron Brown
7. Georgia Bulldogs
Thomas Brown, Danny Ware and Kregg Lumpkin
Brown led the team with 736 rushing yards last season but it was his performance in the spring that has Bulldog coaches raving about his potential. The 5'8", 185-pound junior displays great change-of-direction skills and his decisiveness is what seems to be most improved. Regardless, the diminutive Brown can shoulder only so much of the load, which increases the value of Ware and Lumpkin. Ware has the best combination of size and speed but injuries and inconsistency have plagued his career thus far. Lumpkin, on the other hand, is a bruising 220-pounder who can handle many of the short-yardage carries for the unit.
8. Florida State Seminoles
Lorenzo Booker and Antone Smith
9. Penn State Nittany Lions
Tony Hunt and Austin Scott
10. Boston College Eagles
.V. Whitworth and Andre Callender

You make excellent points, notice how the only thing LSU boy had to say was how bad Tre Smith was. Not only did Kenny Irons run for 200 yards but he told the media he was going to do it, you know that was locker room material for LSU and they still couldn't stop him. Also, look out for Ben Tate, he will be one to watch in the future. None the less it will be a good game.

I think that the tigers (Auburn and LSU) are the most dangerous teams in the SEC. If they were in different divisions they would probably meet in the champioship game. Both teams have incredible speed, experienced-proven quarterbacks, great stable of running backs, aggressive defenses. The report card is yet to be completed on Miles and Pelini (DC), but while I had serious questions about both during parts of last season, I am feeling much better about both of them right now. However, I am probably the only Tiger fan around who doesn like Jimbo Fisher our OC. He has fallen short in many areas in my book. His play calling is not anything to write home about, and I think he could have developed JaMarcus Russell much quicker than he has. Anyway, that's just me; everyone else seems to like Jimbo. He certainly is no Borges, though.

You are right about both teams having similar talent. They are probably the two fastest teams in the SEC, have a lot of depth, and are talent-laden throughout. Our game should be a lulu!
I think Pelini seems like a pretty good Defensive Coordinator. He doesn't seem afraid to blitz, especially on thrid or fourth down situations. With the secondary this year, I would look for Pelini to consistently drop 7 to 8 guys on the line. I think the corners and safeties will be able to take almost any reciever one on one and shut him down. In turn, that's gonna allow the new guys and big Glenn Davis to shut down opposing running games.

I don't care what he looks like if he can play... Maybe he and Broussard can meet in the worst of circumstances.....

I think his record as a starter speaks for itself. He's very good in clutch situations.
LSU's WRs dropped ALOT of passes last year, and that hurt Russel's numbers and his numbers still turned out great.

Ok, here is my take on JaMarcus Russell. All of last year I really thought he wasn't that good. He just seemed extremely inconsistent. For the most part he was. The one thing that he was consistent in last year when I looked back at it was that he came through in the clutch. To me that is one of the most important things in a QB and its something that doesn't show up on the stats sheet. The reason I kind of changed my opinion on him is that he gets the W's. 14-2 in his career starts and you can't argue with that. True he doesn't pick up the huge numbers that some other QBs do, so I don't think he will be in the Heismann race and maybe not even the ALL SEC Team. But when game day rolls around, I would rather have the QB that gets the W than the big numbers.
Have any of you guys ever noticed how extremely small JaMarcus' head is compared to the rest of his body? The guy is what like 6'4 200something. Look at how small his head is next time you see him on TV. It's pretty funny.

if AlleyB can come back from that knee surgery he is gonna be bad-arse. but idk it took him a lot longer than they expected so he might not be the same after it. if he is back 100% we're gonna have a great running game.

That was my boss at work who asked that question. Russell has made some plays that will make you scratch your head though, but who hasn't....cough Brandon Cox against GaTech cough.... lol. I can poke fun at my team too

Just found out that Al Woods got cleared by the NCAA clearing house. That's huge news for LSU fans. He's set to report to campus on Friday.
