When Cut returned to Tennessee, talk was abounding that he would unify the Vols. With five UT players being arrested since May, it seems Cut has done a fabulous job of bringing the Vols together.…..in prison. Your thoughts?

Well, they do need a head coach up there, one that can provide real leadership. I thought Cutliffe would help but it looks like a lost cause in Knoxvegas.

I wouldn't rush to judgement there chief. Wasn't your own coach arrested for criminal domestic violence?
Weren't some of Orgeron's asst's arrested for DUI?
Didn't one of OM's players get arrested on a weapons charge?
Hell, OM accepted the transfer of Brent Schaeffer. He was one of the troublemakers at Tennessee.
Be careful when criticizing other teams. All teams have their bad apples.

Ouch...thats gonna leave a mark.
Maybe they want a lot more of UT's players to get arrested and/or kicked off the team so they can raid their roster:ohmy:
Here it is again........

Some 14 years ago.
Weren't some of Orgeron's asst's arrested for DUI?
And fired.
Didn't one of OM's players get arrested on a weapons charge?
Yes, under Cutcliffe. And the player left Ole Miss because he didn't get playing time under Coach O.

Go ahead and raise your hand if you wouldn't have accepted the transfer of a guy this capable, assuming you needed a QB.
I am truly tired of Coach O and our program getting this kind of junk. We haven't had 5 players arrested. We didn't have half a dozen beat up an off-duty cop. Our (new) assistants haven't gotten DUI's. Discipline isn't about not having these things happen. It's about correcting the problems when they show up. Coach O's incident was almost 15 years ago. The coaches that got DUI's were let go. Quite honestly, I think Coach O did a fantastic job of cutting them loose, taking the heat, and moving on. He didn't argue, scream, or yell - contrary to his public image. He did what had to be done and moved on. And since then there have been no serious discipline problems in our program.
Yes, there will be serious issues again. I'm not foolish enough to think they won't. But to compare our issues to those at Tennessee is crazy.

No one's passing judgment here, except maybe you. I've read some of your posts and I think you could use some of your own counsel about being careful to criticize other teams. I wanted to know what people thought about a current situation in Knoxville and you commence to bring up stuff from years past. One of OM's players did get arrested on weapons charges...under your boy Cutcliffe's tutelage (anyone seeing a pattern). The OM assistant arrested for DUI, he was fired before coaching a single game. The other assistant was arrested for public drunkenness (a horrible crime, I know) and also fired before coaching a game. I never said people don't make mistakes, I asked about a current situation where 5 mistakes were made by the same team in less than 3 months and wanted to hear what people thought; you're talking about mistakes that have taken place over 14 years and making it personal. 14 years is a long time, if everyone here dwelled on what happened in the past, there would be no room to talk about what's going on right now (some people around here, not naming any names, criticize Alabama for that quite frequently). You seem like a level headed guy, here's five cents worth of free advice; don't make this stuff personal, stick to the issues at hand and we can talk about football instead of taking shots at each other.

While Tennessee has surely had their share of troubles, I do think, football wise, their program is going to show tremendous improvement this year, primarily because of Cut. Because they are somewhat of a mystery at this point, and because we all know that they still have a huge stockpile of talented football players, I am a little fearful of the Vols this year. They may absolutely surprise us all and send us home with our tails between our legs. I certainly hope not, and I don't really expect that as far as LSU is concerned, but reality tells me that it surely could happen. And, boys and girls, if they can beat us, they can beat the rest of you, too.

We are sticking to the issues. All I'm saying is don't throw rocks if you live in a glass house. Every school has their share of rotten apples and if you're going to bring out UT about it, then look at OM with the same scrutiny.
The real sad part is that you're faulting UT's players while your COACHES were doing some rather questionable things as well.
I would consider myself fairly level-headed, but I know BS when I hear it and I can smell a hypocrite almost a mile away. There isn't a team in the SEC that hasn't had to boot/discipline a player for some kind of infraction. Now that my friend, is a cold hard fact.

Now I'm a hypocrite?!! Wow, how old are you? Is this forum some kind of schoolyard where we call each other names? When did I say, "UT has had players arrested, but Ole Miss is perfect?" Where have I placed fault on anyone? I have stated nothing but facts, where is the BS? First of all, an issue is something that has happened recently, such as 5 players from one team being arrested in the last 3 months. Anything from a previous season or older is history when talking about a new year and bringing stuff like that up is not sticking to the issues, it is having a peeing contest. Second of all, you haven't even given your thoughts on the UT issue. Do you have any, or are you just out to pick a fight? How can you stick to the issues when you don't even address them? All we've heard from you on this page regarding UT's recent troubles is what Ole Miss and its coaching staff has done wrong in the last two to fourteen years. True everyone has bad apples and has to discipline players, but is that supposed to be some profound statement, like you just made some solid point where people are going to say, oooo that was a good one? "That my friend, is a cold hard fact." Is anyone arguing against that here? Players wear helmets in football. See, I can make obvious, inarguable statements as well. What I'm asking is what people think about 5 arrests in 3 months by the same team? What are your thoughts? If you don't have any thoughts on the subject, drop it. We can argue apples and oranges all day, if you don't want to discuss the thread, why comment?

Cut was hired to put some pizazz back into TN's woeful offense from a year ago. As far as the arrests in Orangetown...why change tradition?
I mean, as successful as the Vols' program has been over the years, has this not been pretty much commonplace?!

The discipline I'm expecting will entail the OL NOT jumping offsides at least once every series ( like they have under Sanders ); fewer fumbles; better decision-making at QB ( throwing the ball away or taking a scak rather than putting up a dead duck pass, etc. ) and not dropping every third pass that hits them in the hands!
As far as raising a teenager in 8 mos, when the parents have done nothing to instill character in the individual in 17 yrs, No, I don't look for Cut or any other coach to have sterling success in that endeavor.

I'm older than you think and secondly, that "Hypocrite" remark wasn't aimed at you. Hint Hint!

you need to check your facts, 5 were not arrested.
5 got in trouble but not all five were arrested, plus you find me a team in the SEC that has not had anyone in trouble this year.
compared to 13 arrested last year, yes i think things r looking much better.

If nothing else Tennessee's crappy record will motivate them to be much, much better this year. While I agree that they are still somewhat of an unknown, I think they will once again be one of the top tier teams in the SEC and I wouldn't be surprised to see them land second in the SEC East and maybe even pull some upsets and wind up first. Who knows, but the Vols should definitely not be written off.
