ESPN reports that Auburn has suspended (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=2537412) two of an already thin group on linebackers for the first three games of the season. Of course, the third game in that season just happens to be against the LSU Tigers.

Auburn was the overwhelming choice out of the SEC Media Days to win the SEC West. A large part of that equation had to do with LSU's conference road schedule which has them traveling to Auburn, Florida and Tennessee.

Sept. 16 looms large and it is one of those games, if not THE game, that serves as a barometer to how effective Les Miles is as the head coach at LSU. These are the type of games you must find a way to win as the underdog on the road. Last season's game in Alabama doesn't count, LSU should have won that game, Auburn is expected to win this one.

Yeah, Sears was likely to be second string behind Dede, and Blackmon was competing for the first string job with Merril Johnson, so we aren't completely at a loss without them, unless Dede or Johnson get injured.

Oh and the three game suspension reported by ESPN was just a rumor. Tubberville hasn't said how long the suspension will be, though it will most likely be at least 3 games.

your absolutely right about this game's relevance to Mile's abilities to coach at a school the caliber of LSU. i would have said last year's peach bowl was the sign that he's gonna be saben junior, but miami just played so horribly i think a Gerry Dinardo coached team could have pulled that off. LSU is very capable of winning it, especially with Auburn's new roadblocks, here's hoping that Miles can keep things under control and cool during the game. his biggest downfall in my eyes at this point is that it appears he starts to panic if things start to slip and he stops thinking and makes mad decisions.

i'm still scared that under him LSU is gonna be a quicksand team. awesome when things are coasting smoothly, but are gonna sink when he can't get them to regain focus after a big loss (yardage, or a game for that matter)

It is my belief that Sears will be out three games but Blackmon will be back before LSU. Blackmon biggest problem is with the staff and not telling them as soon as the incident happened.

To repeat what the other Auburn fan wrote. Dede was listed in front of Sears before the season started and he has started several games before. Merril Johnson going into the spring was in front of Blackmon on the depth chart but then got hurt and Blackmon moved past him on the depth chart.

Depth is another issue but I doubt we will be hurt bad either way...

Good luck every other weekend.......

yeah, that is pretty funny...you can still see tuberville's disdain for espn..he said somthing to the effect of, "how do they know when i dont even know yet." i would be willing to bet money that the suspension isnt for 3 games, if nothing else for the simple fact of proving espn wrong.

I look for the suspension to be "lifted" for the LSU game. Tubby's as tricky as a snake.

The loss of those two linebackers and the fact that Auburn plays LSU the next weekend might hurt Auburn coming into Starkville. That may be State's big upset this year.

Here are some CTT quotes while he was still at Media Days....

. "I don't know what they (ESPN) are talking about and neither do they." CTT also added that "I haven't made up my mind yet".

If that makes him tricky as a snake..... Then so be it.....

Sears was the only starter. We played without him last year at UGA. You all know what happened there. And his backup Dede scored a TD in that game, so this really isn't a big deal at all.

C'mon H, lets be realistic. I'm hoping for a bowl season at least as much as any other Bulldog fan, but our whole team and coaching staff has much to prove before we start expecting huge upsets like that. Yes we have more talent this year than we've had since 2000, but the coaching staff has to prove they can win the winnable games before we start thinking upset (see Houston and KY from last year for examples). Yes the game being at home helps, and yes them being without 3 players on their 2 deep helps, but it's still an uphill battle. The bottom line is this, we can all hope for the big upset, but until we win more than 3 games in a season, it would probably be best to keep those thoughts to ourselves (unless of course you enjoy being ridiculed). I mean we have players on this team that lost to freaking MAINE, a D-2 school that didn't even have a winning record in D-2 that year. Calm down buddy. Hopefully by game 5, we'll have something to base some bravado on, but until then let's just support our team and hope they turn the corner.

BTW blues_cap: The USC game will not be considered an upset if we win. Every publication I've seen agrees to that one. Yeah, they're favored, but it's only a TD or less. That should be a very good game. I actually expect to at least be in that one if not win it.

good post. personally, i would consider it a pretty big upses should you knock off carolina the first game of the season. i understand that to much of bulldog nation it wouldnt be an upset, but i think to the average fan that would be considered an upset.

one thing i can guarantee....if you do win, usce fans will be extremely upset.

For the dawg fan: It is nice to have dreams and wishes but most don't come true. No matter how many coins you toss in the well.....Quoted from the article:

Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville has suspended linebackers Tray Blackmon and Kevin Sears from playing in the Tigers' first three games this season, two sources close to the situation said Wednesday.

Tuberville last week said that Blackmon and Sears were going to miss "several games," but declined to specify how many. Tuberville couldn't be reached for comment on Wednesday.

One or two games is not several; three or more is. He's as tricky as a snake; a snake who likes to smoke cigars and blow the smoke at LSU fans.

AL.com says they got Herring, Johnson in the middle, and Steve Gandy weakside as of now

Correction they say Stevens instead of Gandy because Gandy has a bruised quad

Geaux, between the two players they will indeed miss several games....

Blackmon was cited for public intoxication.... Sears was sentenced for DUI.
My early guess as I have stated before is that Sears will not be back by the time we play. Blackmon missing our game would surprise me...
