Rockaway Athletic Club (before the fire). Food and fun is still good, but it's just not the same anymore. As far as tailgate fare we don't let a season go by without a Frogmore Stew and a pig pickin (Williamsburg County Style).

Calhoun's is very popular. Any place on the strip is a blast, particularly O'Charley's. But the best( and most expensive ) food on the strip is Copper Cellar.
ROOster Booster! What do you know about Wmsbg Co BBQ? I a KT man for 20 years - cooked in every Cook off here since its inception. AND YOU, my friend are absolutely right! Nothing beats Wmsbg Co BBQ!!!

There are lots of great restaurants in Baton Rouge, and many are huge LSU supporters with banners, flags, exhibits, pictures, and the like. Here are a few football fans would like...
Chimes (right off campus; great food and atmosphere; always loaded with students)
WalkOns (near campus; very football-team oriented; great view of Tiger Stadium)
TJ Ribs (has Billy Cannon's Heisman Trophy in a rotating display in the lobby)
Mike Anderson's (some of the best seafood in town; owner is an ex-LSU player)
Parrain's (as good as seafood gets; hangout for Baton Rougeans)
Boutin's (authentic Cajun joint; great food; Cajun bands & dancing nightly)

JayBee or some of the other Auburn guys might have a different list that sticks out in their minds, but these are the most popular. The "Sani Freeze" aka the "Flush" was my absolute favorite hole in the wall Greasy spoon/Ice Cream Shop, but it was bulldozed to make way for a Freaking Colonial Bank! I'm not sure if we have many if any school spirited dishes, but here are a few good places in fayetteville:
Bordino's - great upscale place to eat
Slim Chicken's - best chicken ever, much better than AQ :D
Taste of Thai - amazing thai food
Bourbon Boy's * This is my personal gameday place to eat, mainly because they serve water in giant pitchers, a must for any person nursing a hangover from the day before. They also have like 8 tvs playing various college football games
US Pizza Company - also in Little Rock, great pizza

Man, when was the last time you made it to Columbia? 1941? I think that's how long Groucho's has been here. Hahah.
On game day, I'd have to go with Bojangle's. I'd say more than half of the tailgates involve either chicken or biscuits from Bojangle's.

Hey Wizard...you are aware that O'Charley's on the Strip is closed, right? They shut down citing financial loss.
Other gameday favorites including Calhoun's (esp on the river) are Buddy's BBQ and Chili's. During late season, chili is a major item. Also, during the game, the orange sherbet and Smokey Dogs are good.

Ooops! You're right. But I couldn't mention them all. No doubt, Canes's is the number one food not cooked on site during tailgating. As a matter of fact, I have bought my share of Cane's Tailgate Packs.

No, I did not know that O'Charley's had closed. How long ago was that and has anything else moved in yet?
I was never a huge Buddy's fan, just isn't my fav style for BBQ. Calhoun's is great, but had already been mentioned somewhere, I think.

Good list '94.
I'd have to add the Bar-B-Que house, and Byron's Bar-b-que (where you can usually find Tuberville at least once a week during lunch.
Many of our "old" traditional spots have either closed or blow up (the Copper Kettle). Growing up I remember Stokers Family restaurant was out on the Opelika Highway, Terrible Terry's for cheap Mex downtown, and of course the Auburn Grille which closed a couple of years ago.
The lone spot that has stood the test of time would be the War Eagle Supper Club. Was the first place in Auburn to buy pizza. Now and for the last 25 years is a college bar with bands and a must stop place on game weekends. The "Club" recently celebrated it's 69th birthday (or should it be anniversary?). '94. Oops, didn't mean to imply they serve food. The quit trying that a few years back. However, as you probably know, the Waffle House is within crawling distance, and there is a new Taco Hell about to open up the street. Yes, liquid diets only at the Club!

I've been to some of the rat hole bars ya'll have in Tuscaloosa too. Any bar in Starkville would put those places to shame. I don't see how your women would even set foot in those places. Oh yeah, that's right, Alabama women spit coppenhagen and drink budweiser's I forgot, sorry dude.

My turn.....
Tuscaloosa isn't that bad, but it is rough. I ate at a restaurant there by the name of Cat's Diner years ago.
Put simply, that place was a vomit-fest grease pit. It made the Waffle House look like a culinary arts academy. YUCK! Starkville isn't much better though. I've eaten at a few joints there while visiting my cousins on-campus. :brick:

I forgot a few that definitely should be added:
Sammy's (Highland Road at Starring; outstanding bar and outstanding seafood.)
Georges's (Highland Road at Starring; outstanding bar and great po boys.)
Cain's (all over Baton Rouge; two close to campus - best chicken fingers on the planet).
New Orleans Po Boy (Coursey Blvd. just off Sherwood Forest; absolutely the best po boys you'll ever eat)
Rocco's (one on Drusilla, one on Airline; real New Orleans' po boys and a huge bar).

Geaux, I'll have to check out Chimes for obvious reasons.
Little Dooey is a great place. Never been to the one in Starkville but LD in Columbus had mighty fine chicken fingers and GREAT sauce!
I was going to make a joke about Bojangles at Carolina but since you guys think that's part of "THE TRADITION" in the SEC, I'll leave it alone. I ate at the one across from the stadium because there was no where else in sight and most of the Bama people had circled the wagons there.
Waffle House at the barn? Classic!
Whenever you all make it back to Tuscaloosa, check out Cypress Inn. Get there early. Also former Tider and Miami Dolphin Bob Baumhauer has a good sports bar called Wings. Also get there early. Phil's Wings on the Strip is a local favorite and has outdoor seating to view the passing coeds better! You can't beat City Cafe but that's more for the locals and students as they aren't open on weekends and close at 2:00 every weekday. A meat and four veggies plus sweet tea and cornbread...all for $4. I lived on it as a student and the price hasn't changed much in the 14 years I've been gone.

Oxford has a lot of great eats: Ajax Diner(awesome southern style cooking), City Grocery(kinda pricey but good), Proud Larry's(some of the best pizza ever) are all located on or around the Square. Course we also have all the chains but I don't think that is what the original post was looking for.

I've been to Cypress Inn Denny, and you're right it is some of the best food you can put in your mouth, and it has a good atmosphere with it being on the river. Next time you're in Starkville, if ever, try the Veranda. It has the same type of quality cuisine that the Cypress Inn has, and a few country favorites too. Although it doesn't quite have the atmosphere. Wings is good too, I've been there several times, for those of you who don't know it is a lot like a Buffalo Wild Wings, except with Bama stuff everywhere.

You guys keep posting a bunch of chain restaurants. There is a McAllisters in just about every town. Auburn has one. I ate at on in Springfield Mo. once. Hell there is even one 2 miles from my house here in Ga. McAlister's is good, but IMO nothing beats a local dive!

You caught me! Though come to think of it, there is a DReamland BBQ in Roswell, Ga. I've eaten there many times. Perhaps chains should count provided there are fewer than say 5 to 10 locations. There has to be some reason they became chains, but after 100 or so locations pop up the luster rubs off.
