I would hate to venture a guess.
USC fans are expecting a banner year...and MS ST is supposed to be in the midst of major rebuilding woes......
Sounds like the perfect formula for an "upset".
Most every season, several conferences have a surprise team. Those other Bulldogs might just be it for the SEC. And they are hungry. All I can say is, you know what happens to USC everytime they take someone too lightly.

It will be really hard to take Mississippi State too lightly. They don't have much to be worried about, from coaching on down. Darth Visor against Crooms??

No upset here rabid one. The evil one will keep them focused on who they play that night (it is a night game isn't it?) and not who they play the next week.

Unfortunately I see state pretty weak this year. I would like to see them get back though.

I'm afraid it's not going to happen with Croom at the helm.

It maybe partly on him but you've simply got to understand how terrible the level of talent is right now for them. When Croom first got there that team was a joke and it played a terrible joke on us all by beating Florida. There are many reasons to criticize Croom but look at those players. Those guys would make Bear Bryant himself cut his wrists!

I really would like to see them get some better talent and improve in the next few years. The SEC is better when all of its teams have a potential of beating each other anytime. Mississippi State has had some really good teams in the past; not necessarily title contenders, but teams that could give you a really tough game; games that went to the final whistle.

I guess you could say MSU is just unlucky because they happen to be...MSU! I imagine its extremely difficult to get top recruits to go there. I've been to Starkville many times and its no place I'd exactly dream of going if I was a hotshot recruit. I'm sure its a fine university but the location...not so fine if your young.

So, are you guys saying, at least for the time being (and in your opinion), MS ST has joined the realm of Vandy and KY?

Croom is still in the process of rebuilding this program. The defense showed some improvement last year and should again this year. The offense concerns me with the loss of Norwood. His production won't be easily replaced. The recievers should be much improved with Conner moving back to that position. Hennig has shown a strong arm but struggles with accuaracy. The Bulldogs will have to find a way to be productive in the ground game to have a chance to be a good team.
I believe in Croom and think he will have some success at MSU , it just won't be this year. My Pick 4-8

I didn't even know we had MSU fans here. Y'all should be more vocal. We don't seem to have any MSU, Vandy, Kentucky, and very few Ole Miss fans. Only lately have the Arkansas fans made an appearance. Where is all these people?

I have pondered MSU from time to time and thought about how tough it must be to be the coach. On the plus side you are a head coach in the SEC, the premier athletic conference in America. The downside is having to recruit from not only a state with a small population base but your chief conference rival is another SEC school from your own state that is competing for the same in-state athletes. That has got to put some serious pressure on Croom. There are fellow SEC coaches such as Richt that go out of their way to try and help but, they can only do so much. I truly feel for the guy.

The biggest problem with recruiting in Mississippi is that a good chunk of the players can't qualify. Then you have to couple that with the fact that both Oxford and Starkville are well into the northern part of the state so LSU just cherry picks Ocean Springs, Biloxi, Centreville, whatever they want from the coast due to location.

Add to that the fact that y'all seem to be controlling what is left in the state, judging from this past recruiting class and your projected next one at least, and that seems to me to leave next to nothing for them in state.

And the University of Southern Mississippi at Hattiesburg is a perrenial little powerhouse. They're recruiting some good kids from somewhere.

to bad Recruiting is not as easy as in the Video games. I just completed my 5th season on there and just recruited 14 five star players and 11 four star guys.
