LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) -- Kentucky basketball player Ravi Moss' on again, off again flirtation with the school's football team is off again.

Moss has decided to give up his experiment as a football player, the school announced Thursday, after an NCAA ruling that he would have to miss half the season.

Moss, a senior who was trying out as a receiver after his basketball eligibility had ended, was ruled ineligible for half the football season for his paid appearance in a barnstorming game that included an autograph session.

"After much thought and consideration, Ravi has decided to forego the football season," coach Rich Brooks said in a news release. "He felt that missing half the games would not make it worth doing what was needed to prepare for the season. Given the NCAA ruling, we certainly understand and wish him well. We appreciate the effort he gave us."

This is the second time Moss has quit the football team during spring practices. The previous time, offensive coordinator Joker Phillips talked him into rejoining.

Moss, who played point guard for Tubby Smith's basketball team, is considered one of the best basketball walk-ons in school history. He finished his senior season as a starter.
