ESPN.com senior writer Andy Katz has made his second post-2006 season update of his top 25 for the 2006-07 season and moved the LSU Tigers men's basketball team to No. 5 in his present poll.

In listing three points about each team, Katz had the following to say about the Tigers, 27-9 last year after winning the Southeastern Conference outright for the first time in 21 years and advancing to the NCAA Final Four for the first time in 20 years:

"Glen 'Big Baby' Davis returned to LSU and skipped the NBA Draft.

"Four of the five starters return (we're counting Tack Minor (http://www.lsusports.net/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=5200&ATCLID=174837) as a starter, since he'll be back at guard) and bench has Final Four experience.

"We're going to believe coach John Brady (http://www.lsusports.net/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=5200&ATCLID=174090) that Magnum Rolle (http://www.lsusports.net/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=5200&ATCLID=185995) will replace Tyrus Thomas (http://www.lsusports.net/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=5200&ATCLID=174844)' shot blocking."

Defending national champion Florida is the No. 1 team, followed by Kansas, North Carolina and Pittsburgh. After LSU at five is Georgetown, Ohio State, Arizona, Wisconsin and Texas A&M rounding out the top 10. LSU and Texas A&M met in the second round of the NCAA Tournament with Darrel Mitchell (http://www.lsusports.net/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=5200&ATCLID=174831) hitting a shot in the final 10 seconds to advance LSU to the Sweet 16. The two teams are planning on meeting in Baton Rouge early in the 2006-07 season.

Alabama from the SEC is 14th and the only other league team ranked in the Top 25.

Katz will update his Top 25 twice more prior to the start of the 2006-07 season.

Can "high jumper" Magnum Rolle (below) replace Tyrus Thomas?
