COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -South Carolina forward Renaldo Balkman has hired an agent and will enter the NBA draft later this month.
The decision means Balkman will forego his senior season with the Gamecocks.
Balkman announced in April he was considering turning pro, but put off hiring an agent for nearly two months to maintain his college eligibility if he changed his mind.
The 6-foot-8 energetic forward averaged less than 10 points and six rebounds a game this year. But some of his best moments came at the end of the year when he helped the Gamecocks win nine of their last 10, including a second straight NIT championship.
Balkman hired Andre Buck, a Philadelphia-based agent who works for Rose Professional Management.
Buck did not return a phone call from The Associated Press.
Big blow to USC basketball team. Good luck to Balkman though. He will be a late second rounder I think from what everyone is saying. I still think he should have come back and played his senior year, and he could have become a first round pick. Best of luck to Balkman.
