What up!
As we and some of our viewers have noticed their has been a huge decrease in posting since we had our little ordeal with the members of the "other site." There have been certain times since then where it seems to be getting better and other times where it seems we should just shut this place down. That whole ordeal costed us many of our most frequent and "best" posters and caused many others to leave as well. Since the damage was done a few months ago, how far do y'all think we've come. Is it really picking up around here any? I don't know about y'all but I don't want to go through football season hearing nothing but "crickets" on this board. Here lately, it kind of seems like this place is slowly getting worse and worse. Think about it. You rarely even see Chris (site owner) any more. Neo was probably the most frequent poster and I honestly don't know if he'll ever be back. Some of the most frequent posters that remained are rarely seen except Geauxto who I've seen everyday since I've joined this site a year and a half ago. I know that I will do my best to pick up my own pace around here but what else can we do to get this place rocking again by football season. There have been many new members step in and become very important posters but it hasn't been enough. This place is so empty that this very thread will probably go unnoticed but for all the guests who may be viewing right now don't be shy. You are more than welcome in here.

What will be will be. I think overall SEC fans are mostly football fans. I know it is at least with Dog's fans. We've pretty much covered it all till September. There is only so much football one can talk when there are actually no games being played.

I understand that but you haven't been here that long. It used to be that you could log on at almost any time of day and this place would be booming even in the offseason. It just isn't the same around here. Maybe it will change come football season but I doubt it and the bad part it is there is very little we can do about it.

Its definitely not the same around here, and it sucks for the people who've been posting on here for a long time. I dont have much time to post on either site since Im working two jobs, working on buyin a house, and preparing for a baby. With that said I do more posting on the other site just because its busier. With the mass exodus from here there were so many people over there it was like we didnt even really miss a step. Even with that being the case its slowing down over there just because of the time of year. Not much goin on in Southern Sports(the braves better pick up the damn pace) and besides the occasional committment theres nothing going on in the best sport ever. It will pick back up once fall practice begins and people start searching for collge football info. I've been slowly putting more posts on here but like I said there isnt much goin on and Im not really gonna start many more political or religous threads(I think most people know where I stand). Anyway... things will pick up after a while, and if you get tired of waiting go check out the other site.

I am probably the worst of all posters. I read only what pertains to UGA or other topics I find interesting. I won't read a thread about another school until it gets to be several pages long - then i wanna see what all the fuss is about (by the way, is that 6 year old Gamecock recruiting thread still going on?). I've only started one post since I've been on here. So even though I read this site daily, I don't add much to the mix.
Having said that, I'm a member of the "other" site, too. I'm not sure whether that's allowed, but I like to have all my bases covered as far as relevant information. I prefer posting here, mainly because of familiarity. I used to get all pissed off at certain posters/posts. An example. After UGA won the SECCG, there was a thread titled "Who was REALLY the best team?". Initially, I found it insulting, seeing as how it was settled on the field. However, the more I thought about it, the more I realized that it produced discussion, which is the whole reason that I visit this site. I also sat idly by while Geechee got "jumped". The thing is, I've been reading posts from Geechee for awhile (long before we joined this site), and I've kind of gotten to know how he thinks. He takes up for UGA, which any decent fan does. He also doesn't really have a mean streak, but it must have come across that way. I assume that's all resolved (well, at least until fb season). I bring it up because, again, I don't feel like I have added much before, when maybe I should have. And I do want to change that because I want to see this site continue.
I will make it a point to post more and reply more.

Nice post, Nate, and some good comments by everyone. Every now and then, this board seems to pick-up and start towards the way it was, then it sort of hits a dry spot again. Perhaps it is, as has been pointed out, the "dry time" of the year for football fans. I tread into "the other board" fairly frequently, and I really do think the quality of the sports talk is better on this site. There are some really young folks posting and running the other place, and their topics are often far from football. But, its a very nice site and there are some excellent people as regulars there.
I like this site for many reasons, one of which is that it is very technically proficient. Things work like they are supposed to. That isn't always true in other places. Also, the depth of sports information here is excellent. Some of the people who post here really have outstanding knowledge of the teams, the players, the stadiums, the coaches, etc., and I often learn a great deal about the SEC from the posters here. And people here are right on top of the news. I often hear things here long before I hear them reported on talk radio, or TV, or the newspaper.
It gives you a warm feeling to make your daily or bi-weekly or weekly trek to this site and see that someone has responded to you or that someone has raised a topic that you are itching to get involved in, or even that someone has made you so mad that you could spit with a snide remark about your team. It is, though, disappointing to come on board to find no one at home. Hopefully, we'll be picking up the posting as the season draws near. One thing for sure, we are all held together by our love for the game!

I sometimes glance at the other site and occasionally put my 2 cents in but very rarely. There isn't much being discussed over there that isn't being discussed here. Sometimes I go over only to catch up with DJ, SuperG, and Jneesy. I believe we're still the better site because I've yet to see things pick up over there real heavily. The only thing they really have there that we don't are certain regulars that were never regulars here that are really good posters but we have our share that are still here and stay over here for the most part. When Chris gets back I plan to talk to him about getting an arcade similar to theirs that might get other people to join. I believe that would help encourage frequent guests to join and would also be fun for the members here. Another thing I've noticed here is what I call the "hidden veterans." These are the members who have been on board for a long time but rarely post and often have only about 10 or less posts when they do chime in. I understand that some people only like to read mostly but they are certainly welcome anytime. I have seen posters on the "Who's Online" page that have been around since the start but I've never met because they choose not to post. Don't be shy people. If you have something to say then say it. That keyboard is there for a reason.

I must say, I am impressed by the number of posts that Geechee has accumulated since he joined here this year. This tells me that this site is still pretty strong. I was asked to pop in at the other site but after scanning it over, I like the format here much better. The overall setup of the site seems easier for me to navigate and there is no stupid fancy flash stuff at the entrance to the site. I am also a member of a Vol board but even there, the topics are limited as far as what I want to post on. I enjoy this board because of the banter back and forth between rival fans. UGA/UF and Bama/Barn get pretty entertaining and my wife, also a college football enthusiast, enjoys hearing some of the theatrics that take place on here. She would post but she is too busy with school and a baby. I think this site is holding up just fine, and like everyone else said, around football season this place will pick up again. We'll be hard at it throwing jabs back and forth at each other and once again showing everyone that the SEC is still the toughest, meanest conference out there. I like the crew here. GatorHunter and Geechee provide some entertaining arguments and Geaux sometimes comes out of left field with funny jabs at other schools, even if it is my own school. I have a feeling this site will be around for quite a while.

a bit off topic here, but i was reading men's health and it was talking about ways to make money over the internet. one of the ways was to start a site(similar to this one) and get enough daily hits that advertisements roll in.
anyway, they had a quote from chris leckness, owner of 7 sites in the magazine. even though i dont know him personally, it was pretty cool to see his name in a big magazine like that.
that said, i feel as if quantity isnt always better. i would rather have the ones we have here that like to talk football, baseball, etc than some vagrants that just want to flame the board. also, i see no reason why we should have people around that constantly bitch about the well being of the site.......take it or leave it. i like the way this site is going as it is still the place where i gather the most info about teams across the sec.

I must have been in a haze and missed out on what happened. Can someone clue me in. Because I have noticed the absence of Neo, DJ, Jesney, and that ole miss/Southern Cal fan that was always causing trouble. We need some of that to kick up again. Also, what is the other site, I have never heard of it?

I think we just need to start pitching the site, create a buzz and recruit more posters....if that's what everyone wants...instead of just waiting people to find us online.
I'd be interested in hearing what people have to say about that....any ideas on getting the "SECTalk word" out there????

Hey GN, the guys running the other site have the same concern, so I'll tell you what I told them, you don't grow your sites in the summer before August. It'll pick up again here and on secillustrated once summer practice begins, Trust, this site was for a long time basically 3 posters (me, dudeman, and chris) and it just takes time, but ppl will find it. SEC fans just love football more than anything else. Just try to enjoy the summer, in the fall there will be pages and pages of posts to read.

I thought I remembered you being around while that was going on?
Anyway...Jneesy, DJ, and SuperGenius were all banned because of trashing Chris and the site and purposely spamming for secillustrated.com. Its a site that is run by a Gamecock fan that was banned from here sometime ago that went by USCballer. I'm not quite sure why they became upset with Chris and the site because I myself had been away and came back in the middle of it just before they were banned. Many others were banned and some like USCrebel as you mentioned chose to leave. What happened to Neo is another story. He got caught up in moving houses and then a child custody hearing from what I understood. He has came back a few times since and said he would be back as soon as he could but that is anybody's guess. I'm starting to doubt his return.

I agree. You can post and not have to worry about people slamming or trashing you for just your personal opinion. We're definently never shy to question each other and I agree that this is a very comfortable place but it was also comfortable when it was a bit more active. At least traffic still picks up at times and I personally can see myself posting here 5 years from now or longer depending on how long this place lasts. It won't last forever but if we can keep it going at least the way it is now then I think we'll all be "neighbors" for a long time to come. :closedeye

B. Nate after looking through some of the old discussions I found I was there during the very beginnings of the argument but for some reason missed the part when people were banned and other sites were brought up. I am sure the reason I missed the other parts is I got tired of listening to the whining and the brownnosing and just ignored that thread. It seems I missed a lively thread. But I will always continue to come here because it has been good thus far and will continue to be that way I am sure.

I think my buddy Blutarsky has hit it on the head. What upset the vast majority of those who left was the intrusion into their "private" conversations. This seems very apalling to most Americans. I don't even use this feature because of it. What's done cannot be undone so everyone must move on as they see fit. It may take a while to overcome this stigma. Any bad karma can only be neutralized by continuing acts of good karma.
I truly like and enjoy reading the comments of about 90 percent of the posters on the other site however life is too short to put up with the personal insults thrown out by the other 10 percent so I did the best thing for all and quit posting there. I don't mind trash talking and many times rather enjoy it. Hunter and I can go at it very hard with each other at times but I think we have both learned that there is nothing personal in it. It is just a Georgia/Florida "thing" and these "things" play a big part in NCAA sports. You don't really see this in Pro sports. There is just so much more emotion in NCAA rivalries. Such is life, aloha.
On a personal note, yes Bluto, spam is the unofficial state meat of Hawaii. I don't personally eat it but there is more spam eaten in the islands than any other place on Earth and it can be found on the breakfast menu in McDonalds:laugh:. There are even many cookbooks devoted to just things you can do with spam  I didn't really understand the reese's cravin part however.

BN,
I agree and disagree with you (how's that for covering both sides  ) We did lose a lot of good posters from this site. I have really missed the regular input from RW, Cocky4ever, USCRebel, and several others. I disagreed with some of them on many discussions, but that's what made it interesting.
However, the atmosphere on the site has been quite good. There hasn't been a lot of griping and complaining...just dialogue. I've enjoyed that. Granted, there have been times where things have gotten a little slow, but I believe that's more an indicator of season than anything else. Let's face it...we LOVE football and everything else is a distant, distant, distant (did I say distant?) second.
Once the end of the summer arrives, and the smell of pigskin is in the air, this place will explode. Can't wait.

No sense in reiterating! Things will be jumping in about two months. I actually enjoyed all the....how shall I say.......controversial discourse of some of the aforementioned persons. But primarily, I like the football talk.

I personally like the site much better now. One particular poster basically trashed any post I made, and sent me lovely private messages telling me I was going to be 86ed before long.
I understand rivalries, and good natured ribbing, but this guy spewed garbage like a water fountain. Of course, that's just my opinion.
WDE!

Things do seem pretty smooth. We seem to be gaining posters all the time and the posts are, by and large, about sports in the SEC, and are informative and entertaining.

The site would be better if we would PUT THE TEAM PAGES BACK LIKE THEY WERE. I like to scroll down and see who the most recent poster is on each team page. How it is now....I only look at the Arkansas page and only if someone has posted something new.
Why not just check the "new posts" link? That's what I do....that way, you get everything that's been touched in any forum since your last logon.
Just an idea.

This is a great site. Gator Nation, Geechee, GeauxTo, Rabidcock, etc..etc..etc.. There is no one that's currently posting on this site that I don't enjoy reading. Watch it heat up in late August. My wife is yelling at me again. We're leaving for Bermuda in the a.m. I'll talk to you guys again Sunday or Monday.

The way the team pages used to be...I could scroll down and see who posted on any team page. I don't necessarily only want to see new posts....I want to see who the author is before I waste my time in another team forum. I just liked it better...."if it ain't broke don't fix it". I like to see the topic and the poster when there maybe isn't anything on any of the more frequently visited threads.

Yeah, why...things are picking up already!
I think we are now experiencing that preseason excitement period, where momentum is slowly but surely building into that mass hiatus to the forums. Let it continue posthaste! (Pun intended  )
After all, July approaches, and then, football season is just around the corner.

I HAD a dog named Hunter, once. And HE ran off all the other dogs, too.
[Of course.....this dog's a gator.......so the similarity ends right there.]

You say you had a dog name Hunter. Did he run away? Cause maybe this Hunter is that Hunter, which would be strange. I mean a dog that hates dogs and would rather post online than chase cars would be a little too Stephen King for me. Has anyone checked Gator Hunter's tags lately

Maybe you need to check your chart because we've noticed a little a foaming at the mouth from time to time in here especially when the subject of the Dogs passing the Gators as the best all around program is mentioned. I mean for a dog, you are so nineties these days.

I thought the Gators clocked in at #5 on the all-sports list this year? Uga is #13 or something.....

This is what makes a good rivalry. Not even for a second will they cut you any slack  I don't know anything about that all sports trophy and Hunter could not even explain what it was or how it was scored. I was talking SEC baby. There is the SEC and there is everything else.

Well, u know me.....I'll take #5 in the nation, even if it means being a bit less in the SEC at times.
Just ask our resident Bayou Bengal himself, Geaux, if he wouldn't have taken a NC in b-ball in exchange for the SEC title.
(And he's lying if he says he wouldn't...)

As always, I'm with you Gateaux! (Well, sort of always; no, sort of sometimes; no, sort of rarely; no, hardly ever.)

Nobody is taking anything away from yall as far as your hoops crown. That is huge for both y'all and the rest of us. I was only speaking to about that all sports trophy. I don't understand how it is scored. If UGA finished better than UF in all sports but hoops and frisbee in the SEC standings and won the SEC all sports trophy, then how could it possibly have finished 8 or 10 slots behind y'all in the directors cup. Can you just explain how they score it?
