Just wanted a little insight as to how fans thought their qb position would perform next year(a direct reflection on your record). I say we do it on a 1-10 scale, 10 is the highest.
I think Leak will be about 8. Cant give him 9-10 b/c he doesnt do everything the offense asks him to, but he is extremely good at what he does. If he can get some deep balls next year and avoid ints like he did last year, as well as turning a couple up on 3rd and short, this rating could maybe hover around 9 at the end of the year.

I give a 6 to whichever qb starts, unless it's Rojo, then I give him a 4.

7 for Blake. 5 if we have to turn to Smelley.
8 for blake. 5 if we turn to Cade Thompson. Smelley won't see the field that much this year even though Carolina fans think he's Danny Wuerferrel in his 1st year....

Spurrier said last week that he will not redshirt Chris Smelley. Translation: Cade Thompson ain't gonna cut it.

Ranking reserved until I see how our WRs play. Otherwise Schaeffer might be in trouble.
Spurrier: Quarterback Guru, Head Coach, Winner
Carolina Fans: None of the above and definately not experts
P.S. A true freshman will not lead a team to success in the SEC, why don't we stick with the proven commodity and let him improve (2400 yds, 59%).

Blake a 7. He has a good chance to move up to an 8. There is also a chance of a 9 if he learns to spread the wealth and call audibles.

8 for Cox, great in the short game, does well in PA and boot leg, needs to work on his deep ball.

Spurrier at the Orangeburg Gamecock Club meeting said of Mitchell's performance in Spring practice, "he did so so." Coach has never been that enthusiastic about Mitchell and I'll take his opinion over anyone else. I think he'll be about a 6 or 7 at best. As far as Smelley not red-shirting meaning that he isn't much. I think he's not red-shirting because Mitchell ain't much. Having Smelley to threaten for the position and available to play when Mitchell zones out, may be enough to wake up Mitchell. But I'm skeptical.

I didn't say he would lead us to success as a freshman. I said I'd give him a "5" if we had to play him. That's far from what we want. Spurrier said Smelley will not redshirt. If you know Spurrier, then you know his philosophy is to redshirt freshmen if they can't immediately help the team. He expects Smelley to compete and push Blake. He will at least be the number 2 quarterback by the end of the season.
P.S. I'm a huge Blake Mitchell supporter, so don't try to make it sound like I'm against him.

I, too, am a BM fan and back him all the way. Some complain about his performance last year, but I think he did a helluva job. I think Blake surprises a lot of people this year.

to start the season, probably 6-6.5 for john parker wilson. he's still inexperienced, and i'm kinda hoping he'll progress like cox did for auburn last year. hopefully an 8 after the season.

I remember last pre-season, when I was one of the very few who thought BM would be our starter. To wit: he was a highly rated dropback QB (#7, as I recall), and he looked atrocious in Lou Holtz's system, because he was not designed to be that type of QB. He blossomed in Spurrier's system and did a very representative job. I think he'll improve from 7 to 8. :closedeye

I have to agree. Mitchell needs a little wake me up. Nothing like haveing your position threatened even if its just a chess game

One of our QBs should be in the 8.5-9 range; I'm just not sure who it will be. It ought to be JaMarcus Russell, but if he sputters, there are two very capable replacements in Matt Flynn (who devoured Miami in the bowl game) and the "mouth of the South" Ryan Perrilloux who, despite his mouth, showed up big-time in spring practice. In any event, we should be okay at QB, especially since there are so many good WRs for them to pitch to.

I must be the only Vol fan who is still a regular here. Sheesh!
Umm, Ainge a 6 based on last year. Still missed targets in O/W game but had a TD or 2. If Crompton gets in, I'd give him a 7 but don't bet on him being there. I think Cutt is gonna stick to one QB and avoid the crap that we had last year. Maybe that will improve Ainge from a 6 to a 7.

SOS has till the end of season to declare redshirt. Until he actually plays in a game, he is eligible to redshirt. If SOS has stated that he will not redshirt Smelley then I agree, he will be seeing action at some point.

Cade Thompson has potential and the thought of Smelley waiting in the wings will only help Cade work harder to back up Mitchell. Someone will be playing when/if Mitchell comes to another game asleep and Thompson will know that it can be him or Smelley or Newton. I think we'll be alright at QB. To Mitchell's credit, he never got a breather last year. If he didn't play, we didn't have a chance. A strong backup will give him time alone with Spurrier for a series to make adjustments. That was a luxury we didn't have last year.

But, he started missing targets after Meachum drop a ball. Ainge needs to start only worrying about getting the ball there, and not what the WR does with it so much.

This is true, that's why I didn't go much higher than a 6. I don't have a lot of confidence in him yet after last year. Let's see how he does against Cal, then I'll figure out if I would let hiim go higher than a 6.
