The big favorite among all the possible punishment scenario's for this player is....
A three game suspension.
He will miss Hawaii, Vandy and La. Monroe .... Should be back for Ark.....
I hope this kid figures things out....

I don't know where you got that from Dave, but a large portion on Bama fans on the Bama board say he should be booted if these charges are true.

whatever happens, i believe shula will keep things in-house, other than kicking off the team of course. yes this sucks for us, he was one of the leaders of this defense, but shula is a good disciplinarian so i have no doubt it'll get handled.

My bet is that Simpson is gone. If he makes amends and has eligibility left, Shula may give him a chance to play next year. The big problem is the stolen gun makes him look like a drug dealer, so Shula will have to make an example out of him.

there wasn't enough pot to consider him a drug dealer.
best case scenario: the pot and the gun was the unnamed passanger's. since juwan was driving he gets arrested instead of the passanger. he'll be cleared of all charges.
worst case scenario: if the stolen weapon charge holds, he'll probably get kicked off the team. i don't think the pot will get him kicked off, but a suspension is due.

i was surprised given the fact that, according to the article, he was a kid with his head on pretty straight. he was about to graduate with a financial planning degree, won an award for leadership and acting right in general.
i guess bad things sometimes happen to good people.

ya juwan's really active in the community. he's also pursuing his second degree, in criminal justice no less. maybe he'll get to defend himself or something haha

I doubt that he will be thrown off the team for this unless Shula is a lot stricter than the mainstream college coach.

He seems like a decent guy actually. Active in the community, working on his second degree as a senior. The gun and the weed really doesn't bother me, outside of the gun being stolen. Give him a decent punishment, but definately don't throw him off of the team.

Exactly, Coaches are much deeper than the fans. The guy has put in four years at the school. I'm not defending his actions but, it is easy to make something look twice as bad as it is. He had some pot and a stolen gun. The stolen property charge was the gun. It was not additional items.

I'm sorry, but if a guy is willing to do the crime...let him do the time...if it were you or I, we would be in jail for at least a year. You see guys that are big time players, i.e. Shockley, Leak, Green, Siler, etc., go through school and never get arrested, yet this guy will probably get a free-pass because he's an important cog to the football team...sad...and if I'm not mistaken, he had stolen property, a stolen gun and pot...there were 3 crimes because his fine was a $1,000 for the first 2 and $5,000 for the 3rd = $7,000...I could very easily be mistaken, however.

1. as you said, no charges were filed
2. all of the guns were registered to dee webb, who took sole responsibility for them(hence, they werent stolen).
3. dee webb is no longer part of the program due to the draft, so what can you do to him????
4. let me reiterate, no charges were filed so the police must of thought the story checked out
in summary, nothing was STOLEN, there were no DRUGS, and none were charged with any CRIMES. although stupid, it was believed to be accidental and is much different than the player in question.

dude, if you believe that 3 players were shooting at some girls with high power assault rifles and no charges were filed i cant help you. obviously, the police thought there was no foul play and meyer cant come out and severly punish anyone when no charges were filed. he especially cant punish someone who isnt a part of the program and took responsibility for the guns, etc. the police, not the football coach, determine whether a criminal act was committed and act accordingly.
like i said, it was dumb, but nothing was stolen, no charges filed and no one was arrested.
i do find it a little more than amusing that the queen of "dont put words in my mouth" is putting words in mine. please show me where i said if they go to another school they must go to jail. also, please show me where i said it was ok to shoot guns at ladies(which didnt happen, so once again you are spewing all this vitriol on a subject you obvioulsy know nothing about; not the first time i might add). you must go to jail if charges are filed and the police say so, and in this incident, the police didnt say that. in the alabama case, they said he must go to jail. if you cant see the difference in that, once again, i cant help you.
finally, i think you need to lose your inferiority complex with uf and their fans. you obviously hold animosity towards the uf program as you constantly irritate the hell out of us(or me anyway). good day. :brick:

Dude I have no animosity against UF. I have a ton of cousins that have gone to that school. I have never shown any animosity towards UF only to some of y'all's fans and your mouths. I don't have any animosity towards you blues cap. The quote I responded to was from hunter who said exactly "I'm sorry, but if a guy is willing to do the crime...let him do the time." That is where the jail reference came from. You jumped into his argument to defend his BS so you agree with him totally. I'm staying on topic. So once again I really don't care about that those UF players, I just think it is funny that y'all want other players to go to jail but your players are perfect because no charges were filed against them because they were football players. OK...let's see...UF's case: 3 UF players, handling a gun that "accidentally" went off...going through the "wall"...into an unoccupied neighbors appartment....vs.....Bama's case: guy is arrested after receiving stolen property, has a stolen handgun and pot.....UF's case: NO CRIME....Bama's case: YES CRIME...if you're having trouble understanding this lil man, I can't make it any more simple without crayons and a etch-a-sketch!

Dude the whole thing is, I was never judging the three UF players. I was just pointing out that these things happen on every campus. Don't pretend that it does not happen on your's. You don't have all the facts in the 'Bama case so let it run its course and then decide. You are also blowing it out of proportion by saying he had a stolen gun and stolen property when you know they are one in the same. You want this to go very badly for the guy and you do not even have the facts. Prejudging is the quality I think about when I see your posts dude.

The police will always look for every possible charge in an arrest regardless if it's true or will stick. Having multiple charges insures that at least one charge will get a plea in exchange for dropping the other base-less charges. From what I've read, who is to say that he stole anyone's gun. Guns are everywhere and he may have bought, borrowed, or had in his vehicle a gun that he had no idea where it originated. As for the 5 pounds of weed....well that's a tough one to explain away. Being a libertarian leaning person... we don't even want to open that. But too many good people are in jail for weed that shouldn't be, and I think it's wrong. That's just my opinion, of which, I'm sure many will disagree.

oh, he was arrested because he was the driver. it could very well have been that all that stuff was his unnamed passanger's. but since he was the driver, he was the one arrested. i'm sure glad in this country people are presumed innocent until proven guilty. i'm not trying to defend him. if that stuff was his, yes, he should be kicked off. but without an indepth investigation (which shula and co are doing) punishment shouldn't be rendered.

Hey, your the one that brought the UF players into this...and you are correct about one thing, I did jump the gun, (no pun intended)...I just get tired of reading about these players that have the world by the balls and screw things up with theft and drugs...my point is, if the guy is innocent...more power to him, if he's guilty, he should be punished. Well Hunter, you stated your case much better that time. I only brought up the UF item to show you it happens everywhere, on all campuses. Those UF players may not have been charged but you tried to make it seem less than it was and make the Bama player look worse than it was. No school's fans in the SEC have any right preaching to another school's coach about the way he handle's discipline because none of us are squeaky clean, not even Vandy and in this case we don't have all the facts just what was printed.

The case with the UF players was over-stated by the media...and maybe this was as well...however, there were no arrests in the UF case...and I agree, no SEC school is completely immune to this, I just hope the kid is clean...otherwise, I say punish him like anyone else. Drug use sickens me.

Hunter, those players may have not been charged but it was no accident. They took the guns over there. They were seen leaving with a rifle case. Two assault rifles an AK47 and an AR15 were found in the room and a shotgun and 38 were found in the car. No, they were not stolen, but they actually did fire the weapon. So they are both gun crimes. One gun was stolen, one gun was fired. We won't jump to conclusions on your guys and you don't on other school's players. Is that fair?

I'm not thinking anything Hunter. How many times have you or anyone you know taken guns to a chick's apartment and accidently fired shots through the door and just left? What does a football player need with two assault rifles in his apartment and a shotgun and 38 in his car, even if they were registered?

it's not whether he needs them or not, that is a matter of opinion. the law says he is entitled to have them given he goes through the correct process b/f obtaining them, that is a fact.

im cool. not positive about the policy but is seems as long as not on campus and legally held there is no policy. right to bear arms, man. im not sure the school could do anything about it as long as it is abiding by the law, would be unconstitutional i think.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — A felony charge against Alabama linebacker Juwan Simpson for possessing a stolen handgun was reduced to a misdemeanor.
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Department reduced the charge Tuesday after determining the gun was worth less than the $500 threshold necessary for a charge of second-degree receiving stolen property, punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
The charge was reduced to third-degree receiving stolen property, a misdemeanor with a maximum one-year prison sentence.
Simpson, 21, was arrested Saturday on charges of receiving stolen property, possession of marijuana and carrying a pistol without a license after he was pulled over for driving erratically.
The gun had been reported stolen in Decatur.
Coach Mike Shula said it's too soon to decide on any possible disciplinary action against Simpson.
"If discipline is necessary, we will handle it internally and not through the media," he told The Tuscaloosa News. "We try to be fair and consistent with our discipline, but we will have accountability.
"We all make mistakes sometimes, but mistakes have consequences."
My problem with all of this is consequence. For far too long athletes have had excuses made for them from pop warner through high school, into and through college and then in pro for poor choices and academic inadequacy.
I agree with whoever said that if it were you or I we'd be having a nice little jail stint. This kid did appear to have his head on his shoulders and appeared to be heading for great things. I think he needs to be held accountable if the charges are upheld and he can serve as an example for the entire football program in this country. Maybe it's time for zero tolerance in this arena as well.
imho, always.
