QB controversy at UF?

45,200 showed up despite terrible weather for the UF spring game...Tebow completed 15-21 passes for 197 yds and a TD in leading the Orange Team to a victory...even though Tebow clearly outplayed Leak, running the option with fluidity and completing his first 5 passes, Meyer stated there is no QB controversy at UF...Leak will be the starting QB. Have to say that I agree...I'm sure the "talking-heads" will make an issue out of this...but it's just a spring game. Have to admit, though...I can't wait to see this guy in a game...buddy of mine that went to the O&B game said TT looked good running the offense. :thumbs:

yeah, i read that. sounds like tebow had little trouble adjusting to the speed even though many starters were out. although i agree that leak is still the starter i do find it a little disturbing that he seems to be having trouble with this offense. i know it was just a spring game, but this is the first time in his career with the same offense 2 consecutive years and i expect a big improvement. we'll see. go gators.

SC had a similar thing happen in our Spring game. One of our redshirt freshman QB's completely outplayed Mitchell. However, Mitchell had done a lot better throughout Spring Practice and was more consistent so he's still the starter as of now. If nothing else at least you know you'll have a dependable back up should something happen.

I agree bc, you would think Leak would have carved them up...there were several starters that didn't play, maybe that had a little to do with it as well. I take the same "we'll see" notion you stated....he should be fine.

Its not all his fault, of course, but, just think how much better Florida will be once a QB who fits this offense gets in there.

Yea...I feel bad for Leak...he's a senior and this is the first time that he's had the same OC from the previous year. The system doesn't fit his abilities...plus, I doubt he gets a serious look for the next level. The program says he's 6'...he's not a inch over 5'10". This offense requires that the QB read a defense and "think"...Leak has never had to do this...he's always run the plays from the sideline...even on audibles. If TT comes in vs some of the teams early in the schedule, and really lights it up...we could be seeing more and more of TT and less of Leak by years end...just a thought....but TT is a true freshman...he'll have plenty of growin' pains.

I still think Leak will be great . This is his last year and he will shine!!!!! I love all the Tebow hype but through it all Leak He was the first big star that is NOT ONLY A TRUE GATOR but a great person. I will never forget that great LSU team we did not even stand a chance against Leak was there as a freshman!!!! So now I believe he will save the best for last. Tebow is our furture but our now will be Leak . Life is funny our basketball team wins it all and at the start of the season we were all in trouble cause three main players where gone. Now call me old fashion but you dance with the one that brought you. Mark it down now Leak will peak and Meyer will be on fire!!!!!!!!! Go Gators

If Gator fans start clamoring for Tebow over Leak they are crazy. Leak is a baller. People dont appreciate what they have and always want more. Remember, the backup quarterback is always the most popular player on the team.

I can agree with this...Leak is a very good QB...he just has never had to be a field general...he has, up until last season, depended on the sideline for plays and audibles...that's my only issue with Leak...to be successful in the SEC, from time to time, a QB is gotta think for himself. I hope Leak starts all year long and has a great senior season...I'm just relieved that we have a capable back-up for the first time in several seasons.

i agree. i want leak to be the starter throughout and have a superb senior season. that said, we cant ignore the fact that leak hasnt won anything since he has been there. he is everything you want in a football player as far as class and discipline, but he has yet found out how to be a leader and more importantly, a winner.

please dont think im down on leak. he can drop back and throw it as well as anyone in the conference and i recognize that. i just want him to take it to another level this year and lead when the going gets a little tough(and with that schedule, it will.)

Meyer actually insinuated that he would put Tebow in about ever 3rd or 4th series in the "lesser" games...I agree, it's a great to have a capable back-up...Tebow gives the opposing DC a new "wrinkle" to plan for...but all of the Gators that I come into conact with support Leak...he has the experience and has won some pretty big games.
