This guy saw how much AUA basketball sucked just after his freshman year!
Auburn freshman forward Joey Cameron has been granted a release and will transfer from Auburn following spring semester.
"It didn't work out for me at Auburn," said Cameron. "I wasn't happy with my role and the minutes I was getting. I'm not mad. I just think it's in my best interest to leave."
The Leeds, Ala., native will look outside the SEC for a new home and remains open to a lot of options. He would prefer an offense where he can better utilize his post-up skills.
"I have a lot of interest in Memphis and Maryland but I'm looking at a lot of schools," said Cameron. "I'm going to wait until the (NCAA) Tournament is over and then weigh my options. I'm looking for the best fit."
Cameron said he was in good shape academically.
Cameron played in 26 games including 12 starts as a freshman averaging 2.3 points and 2.7 rebounds per game.
Cameron is the third Auburn player to leave since the start of last season. Guard Michael Woodard quit shortly after the start of the season and forward Emanuel Willis did not play in the final 14 games of the season. Both will also transfer.
With the loss of Cameron, Auburn now returns eight scholarship players for the 2006-7 season including junior Quan Prowell who sat out the 2005-6 season after transferring from Furman. The Tigers have two signees in combo guard Kelvin Lewis and small forward Lucas Hargrove, and a commitment from combo guard Dewayne Reed.
