i heard some interesting news lately about the recruiting of tt...from what i gather, at the time tebow was being recruited heavily by uat , tebow had a certain requirement when it came to his recruitment. Evidently, he stated to cms that he did not want any other qb to be recruited at the same time. Cms took the bait and did just that. it came back to bite him on the azz when tebow went to florida..it was too late to get in with any top qbs. We were able to get Chris Smelley right from under your nose..Cms tried hard to get him but it was way too late...i guess the moral of the story is to not let a 17 yr old kid tell uat how to recruit..how you don't recruit a guy like that, especially since he is from tuscaloosa, is hard to believe..i gaurantee cms wont make that mistake again. makes him look kinda silly..i personally think tebow was never ever gonna go to uat.

We have already been over this. CMS did not like the idea of Chris Smelley playing both football and baseball. He wanted a one sport guy. Also, the QB position was not in a high demand this past year. Shula liked what he saw in Tebow and being a highly touted QB of course he got an offer. Tebow would have been great to have but I am still happy with the end results. Greg McElroy's profile is as follows:

"As a first-year starter in 2005, McElroy passed for 4,687 yards, 56 touchdowns and just nine interceptions as he led his team (16-0) to the state 5A championship. For his efforts he was named 5A Offensive Player of the Year in Texas. As a sophomore and junior, he played behind two-time Texas 5A Player of the Year Chase Daniel. His senior season, McElroy completed 321 of 450 attempts for 4,687 yards and also had 700 yards rushing and 12 touchdowns. Carroll High School won its third state title in four years by defeating Katy in the 2005 Class 5A Division II championship game. McElroy completed 21-of-31 passes for 328 yards and four touchdowns and was named the game MVP. His 56 touchdown passes broke a Texas state record."

No, what you smell is called BS. All of this "talk" about TT telling coaches he wanted to be the only QB recruited is BS...I'm sure this story was "dreamed up" by some Auburn fan wanting to make CMS look like an idiot...TT didn't care one way or the other.

the same story was reported for Clemson too. once clemson got word that Korn was ready to commit they offered him since they figured they didn't have a great chance at Tebow anyway. Tebow then dropped them to the very bottom of his list. he almost certainly would have gone to florida anyway, and when you have the recruiting power that Tebow did it really isn't a bad move to try and assure yourself the starting gig for the long run. so why do you care? sure you may be right and TT didn't care, but it was reported by multiple schools/sources. either way it doesn't matter at all.

Eh who cares now anyway? Born a Gator and will die a Gator. Too bad I got my hopes up for him. He will be a damn good fit in CUM's system though (even if the system might not be what it is hyped up to be  )

I could care less who reported what...my point is, rumors and fabrications surround all highly recruited players....look at all the Mustain reportings...Tebow didn't care either way, that came from him...I choose to believe him vs some reporter trying to sell papers....

IH8...how do you know how good Meyer's systems is? Please let me know because I haven't a clue.

I know how it is against a good defense: (Neither of those boys were starters)

Truth is, you haven't seen his offense yet...you certainly didn't see it against Bama. Can't wait to get you guys in the Swamp this year....gonna get loud!

Urban Meyer himself came to the Arkansas State Championship game and spoke to both Damian Williams and Mitch Mustain.

Mustain = Nation's top rated pocket passer with 4.6 speed... Nice... Hope to see him in 2007-2008. (Casey Dick for Stater '06!)

No doubt Mustain is the real deal...just not a perfect fit for Meyer's offense...now don't get me started on D. Williams!!!

Don't say he doesn't want them, or he would of not been in person at their state championship game to talk to them.

No, I was talking about how D. Williams pulled the ol' switcheroo at the last minute on UF...and Meyer was there talking to Williams....as I said, Mustain doesn't fit in our offense...he was not even offered by UF...we wanted Williams pretty bad, though.

Wasn't offered? Sorry, but he was. He had 27 scholarship offers and Florida was one.

It was a "tentative" offer very early on...hundreds of kids were given "tentative" offers from UF...when Mustain decided to "look around", he listed UF as one of the schools he was going to look at...however, he wasn't offered a visit...just like with Notre Dame...it was reported that Mustain wanted to go there, however, ND pulled the offer. Nothing against Mustain....as I said, I think and hope he does well, he's just not the right fit for UF.

Tebow is the most physically and mentally mature Frosh QB I have ever seen. He is a born leader and he is a winner, I expect him to have a great career at UF.

:werd:

I don't want to give the impression that I think'll he'll be the answer to all of our issues on offense...getting all those WR was big...but he's definitely gonna be a "cog" in the wheel. I look for him to have a great career at UF as well.

i wouldnt go about calling him a born leader just yet. he may very well be a great leader but he hasnt proved it at the collegiate level yet. but i can agree with everything else you mentioned.

Every indication from Gators camp right now is that Tebow is going to be a stud and that he is nearly a perfect fit for Meyer's offense. He's also got a perfect situation in that he can gain experience, while playing under Chris Leak. He is going to be perfectly ready when the starting job rolls his way as long as Leak doesn't get injured early on.

The biggest skill that CMS and CUB saw in Tebow is his ability to lead his team. The guy has all the physical skills but his leadership. WOW! Croyle had all the mechanics of a great QB but he was too laid back to be leader.
