In what was felt by many of us here at SECTalk in the beginning of the season and throughout the year that this was a down year in SEC basketball, isn't it intreresting to note that the Elite 8 contains TWO SEC teams, more than any other conference. If you include the NIT Final Four, there are three SEC teams out of the twelve that are still in action in the post-season.
Pretty good, huh! :closedeye

I admit that I was one of the members here who bought into the idea that it was an off year for SEC basketball. I guess between the talking heads and the lack of good press for the SEC, I just accepted that we weren't very good this year. I predicted that no SEC team would make it past the sweet 16.
:uglyhamme
So I am pleasantly surprised to be proven so wrong. LSU played a whale of a game against Duke and then TX. While the TX loss messed up my bracket, I'm really proud of the job done by the tiggers. If FLA advances, my brackets will be totally destroyed, but my guess would be that quite a few others would be as well. Apparently, the so-called experts aren't as expert as they claim, and have now been smacked with a dose of reality. :twak:
Congratulations to the SEC once again proving to be THE POWER CONFERENCE for college athletics.
BTW Rabid - There are actually 2 Big East teams as well....UCONN and NOVA.

I learned long ago to never underestimate the SEC. I also learned to never listen to the media, it seems for whatever reason they downplay the SEC. I'm not sure if we are the best conference in BB this year, I think it's probaly a toss-up between the SEC and BigEast. I think, barring alot of early exits to the NBA, the SEC very well could be the top conference next year. On a side note, I give us the nod as top conference in football every year.

Yep, and don't forget baseball, too. The SEC has done very well there as well.

Yes, I later thought of that
So the Big East and SEC are the two "power conferences" in basketball this year. As we will all note, the mighty ACC is quite out of it. :closedeye

I am sooooo proud of the Florida Gators right now---what a game! Two SEC teams in the Final Four!! :yay: Both LSU and FLorida have dominated around the basket. Inside strength, and not superior guard play, have been predominant.
I wonder, what is everyone's thought on this?

Congrats to the Gators on the win and advancing to the Final 4. It's great to see two of the four teams left being SEC schools. Even better would be seeing two of the two teams left being SEC schools.
Here's hoping for an LSU - Florida matchup in the Championship Game.
