I have stayed quiet on this one, but I am gonna chime in here. I am a supervisor myself, so I can only speak on how I would handle such a situation. Negativity is one thing, but attacks and telling me how my free site sux would generate a termination for one of my employees if that were done at work, which would equal being banned here. I personally am surprised a couple of other people have not been banned, and I truly look to see that very soon. We also do not know what has been emailed and pm'd to Chris that we have not seen. This is one of the best sites I have ever been on. All the dismay is very disturbing. I personally wish it would stop before Chris gets fed up and just pulls the plug on the whole thing. I would ask all fellow members to please just find another site if this one is so bad. PLEASE do not have it shut down for those who wish to stay.

Read Chris' Post (http://www.sectalk.com/boards/showpost.php?p=121210&postcount=116) in the running thread (http://www.sectalk.com/boards/showthread.php?t=9919) that is already being used for this topic.
His post has the explanation of why those users were banned. Since there's already that long ongoing thread on this, please post comments regarding this topic in that thread. Thanks.
p.s. Once you read that post, you'll find that there is nothing wrong with posting on our site and other sports sites. The problem comes with "utilizing this site as a vehicle to recruit for another site" (Chris' words).

You can post secillustrated.com, I have undone what one of my staff has done.
Why?
Quite simply, I have received an email from a couple members stating that pms were being used to protest the site. If they want to leave fine, but is it right to use this site as an avenue of promoting another? No, its not. If you read this (http://www.sectalk.com/index.php?page=link), you will see that I do not condone spamming other sites.
Want to add your link to SECTalk? Click Here (http://www.sectalk.com/links/index.php)These images are hosted on our servers and ok to use off site. They are ok to use as signatures on other sites as long as it does not break the other sites rules.

And for the "negativity", I have made changes in response to complaints today.
There was a thread suggesting the censorbot be added, we added it.
There was complaints about it, removed.
Never knew people didnt like the articlebot, found out, removed.
As long as complaints are challanging the rules set forth, I am very receptive.

I have been on good behavior this whole time and I'm not entirely sure why the mass exodus occured all of a sudden, I can honestly say it threw me off guard. So just know I have been good, but...., I cannot sit idily while you make awful hypocratic statements, you tell us to "recruit" ppl off of other sites (which btw I have done, check my "references", and I brought NEO), and then you say above (see quote) that ALL OF A SUDDEN it's not right? Give me a break. If you don't want ppl to go to secillustrated.com I get that and that's totally your decision, it is a free site and you are allowed to do what you want. But don't sit here and act like it's bad that ppl are using it as "an avenue of promoting another" when you tell us to do the same. Spam is bad, you haven't see me do that, but hypocrisy is worse, please don't ban me for telling the truth....

FOR THE LOVE OF PETE!!!! Please guys, take a deep breath, roll back a foot or two, and think about what you are saying. So many of you I consider dear friends from the past year plus I have been here. I have seen some of you at practice and such, and this is STUPID!!!!! So many more of you I consider friends, regardless of which team you pull for because of your insightful informative posts. PLEASE let's all stop this crap, and talk about SEC sports!!! Once again, my opinion. I don't see anyone being a hypocrit, if you are wanting to revolt, stop it. Leave if you wish, but please stay. It seems the entire world has been peed on today on here. We all cannot get what we want here or anywhere else. What we can do is continue to enjoy each others company, and keep each other informed on all teams in the SEC. This site today is like a nuclear disaster area. Come on guys, we are all more mature than this. I have seen it.

Look at sigs on the site, nothing wrong with adding a banner to your sig to support another site. Nothing at all. In the link us page, I said to follow the rules of the site you are on, not to spam it with multiple pms. What has happened here is not "promoting a site", its "we're leaving this site, come with us". I have to assume the members sent this PM to many of the members here. That is different than adding a banner to your sig.

Chris has never asked anyone to "recruit ppl off other sites".
The very first rule of the SEC Talk Referral Contest states that you should not get referrals from other sites unless it is accepted on a site to do so. He gives ways to recruit such as telling your friends/family about the site, sending emails to friends, using a link in your signature on other sites, etc.
Comparing to the "real world"... You could walk into an electronics store, overhear someone talking about needing flowers, and hand them a business card for your floral shop. But if you walked into that same electronics store and started handing out business cards to your own electronics store, then you're going to get the cops called on you.
Jordan, I got news for you, in the fall of 2003 Chris did ask me to recruit ppl, please read my posts carefully everyone so I don't have to repeat myself, I did not condone what other ppl have done or disapprove nor was I really aware, I guess for once I was innocent, but hypocrisy is hypocrisy, but I understand Chris's point, so don't tell me something you don't know about Jordan, let's please keep this friendly, same thing GT....

I don't think I've seen all of the behavior that people are referring too, but it's pretty evident in the postings of DJ on the other thread. He was practically begging people to come to a different site.
I remember when USCRebel was going through a crisis a few months back regarding this board. He thought he was done, but in his gut, he didn't want to leave. You could tell there was an honest struggle going on from his postings. But reading DJ's posting on the merged thread shows a very different mental state that that of USCReb.
DJ was clearly slamming this site while suggesting that all the "good" and "important" posters were going to a different site, and that if the rest of us had any sense, we'd follow.
That is just flat out, totally out-of-bounds IMO. But that's something that is likely due to a lack of maturity. But maturity or not, it has no place and I, for one, am glad that Chris has placed a ban on some people if there has been more of that going on.
This has been a good site. The only thing that will destroy it is to let people who don't want to abide by the guidelines to pirate the direction of the board. If we continue to be the great community of posters that I have come to enjoy, it will draw more of the same. There is an old saying that says that "Like attracts like." I'm confident we can rely on that old truth to hold sway here as well.
Never Settle!

That is a beautiful post, and the type I give rep. points for. Very well thought out. I look at this kind of like a football team. That is something we can all relate to. You are all kind of like family, however sometimes some trimming has to be done to keep the team together. Sometimes a few get out of line, and suffer the consequences. Once the dust settles, the team is still here, and sometimes even stronger. I hope we all want to be part of that team. Once again, great post. :)

Some of the stuff on here was really crazy, mean, out of line and such and then there was some things that was interesting and conversational. You are correct. This is going to be one exciting season. Carolina I truly feel will be much improved, and some other teams as well. Then you have the usual teams who are always good, and UGA to me is a question mark right now. They will be good, but how good remains to be seen. I think Spurrier might try to put it to em this year.

I think Carolina truely has a shot at the East this year. GA is going to be good but they have lost some experience from last year, TN will rebound and be good but the question is really just how good ... and FL will be the team to beat in my opinion. They have a year under Meyers system and a good number of starters returning but Carolina did beat them last year and they too will have a year under Spurrier so I can see them surprising everyone and winning the east. The west will again be jumbled in my opinion. LSU again will be the favorites but both Bama and Auburn will be strong and it would not surprise me to see either of them win the west. Ole Miss and ARk are coming off a really good recruiting class and should be improved and be a real problem for teams. This may not be their year but I'll be lookin for them to make some noise in 07.

I agree with those predictions. Gonna be fun to watch. It is still hard to believe just how close Carolina came last year to the SEC Championship game. That heartbreaking loss in Athens in week 2 meant more than they would ever know. :(

I was shocked when Bama and Auburn crushed them tho. I was really expected a closer game.Even though Georgia won the SEC crown, I think the West was the stronger division last season. LSU, Alabama, and Auburn were very good, and Arkansas was a bit of a surprise. The usual suspects in the East, Florida, Tennessee, and Georgia, were not quite up to par (even though UGA won the SEC), but South Carolina was quite a surprise, as was Vanderbilt.

If we continue to be the great community of posters that I have come to enjoy, it will draw more of the same. There is an old saying that says that "Like attracts like." I'm confident we can rely on that old truth to hold sway here as well.
Never Settle!

I appreciate your recognition that I took seriously my association with the board during the previous "conflict." I think that it is important, however, to note that my concern at that time was not over profanity or even being censored per se. It was that no one ever communicated with me about the removal of the post. From what I gather from others, this was not a singular incident in the life of SECTALK.
My position has always been that the community of the board will control the nature of the posts. If moderators attempt to over ride the communal norms regarding posting and content, they inevitably change the nature of posts by driving off more independent, creative members. This rule applies to any board, not just here. It is one thing to occasionally, gently recommend that this or that is inappropriate in a post, it is quite another to shape threads by removing posts completely.
I have created relationships on this board with folks who are quite my opposite in political and religious views, but very similar in their sense of humor, level of intellect, and curiosity about the world around them. It does not surprise me at all that many of them have chosen to go elsewhere to do their primary posting. Nor does it not surprise me that some are very loyal about their attachment to this site. I feel the most sympathy for those who are torn and ambivalent about "where to post."
I hope that I will be able to stay in touch with those folks with whom I have formed relationships. I will continue to visit the site from time to time, but I presume that I will spend more time at the other site. I have asked a few folks to consider posting at both places so that I might continue to enjoy their insights. I have never asked anyone to abandon this site.
As to the tone of others' posts, I can only say that they were hurt and offended by what went on here. The fact that their feelings have been invalidated and marginalized is part of the underlying difficulty that created the situation. There is no correct way that a person "SHOULD" feel in a given situation. People respond differently to the same stimuli. Some agonize for days over losses in athletic events, while others simply move on. Some are shy and reticent in new situations, while others seem to be at home in every social setting. Some find it easy to say goodbye, while others have great difficulty.
We would all be better served by accepting responsibility for our own actions and feelings and trying to respect where others are, whether we understand it or not. I think that it was feelings of disrespect that generated the distrust that drove the actions taken by members of the board.
