Without even playing a game the MSU baseball eam has moved up to #11 in the latest poll.

Good for publicity , meaningless unless they follow through on it.

Yeah and hopefully the State of Tennessee will institute an intelligence requirement for driving which should confine you to Shelby County for the remainder of your days.

As I said when Ashley bailed on Croom, whatever good happens for Miss State rubs off on Ole Miss and vice versa. Its nice to see Ole Miss and Miss State kicking *** in at least one major sport.

nice one, reb. now let me ask, is there an inferiority complex brewing under that facade of ole miss baseball being good?

really dude, you shouldnt take these things as shots towards your personal team. everyone knows msu has been the best baseball program in miss for years(well, i thought everyone did). ole miss has been good the past few years, but they still arent considered the best program in the state on a year to year basis. sorry if this bothers you enough to want to keep me confined to shelby county, but no worries, if i do leave it will not be headed south towards oxford.

insert joke about intelligence, they dont want you there, etc, _______________ here.

A lot got heaped on Miss State's shoulders with their JUCO class coming in and their SEC tourney win last year.

btw, Templeton did a good job of coniving his way into State getting the only regional bracket without another SEC team. They need to change the way those brackets are drawn up since the ADs on that selection committee cater to each other all crazy like.

I hope you have a better season than what I'm expecting out of Smoke Laval. I don't think we're going to be anything special this year. I could be wrong, though.

On a more positive not, our girl's softball team should do really well.

The part about intelligence and not wanting you there was not a joke.

I was reasonably specific about intelligence and not wanting you in Mississippi, so perhaps the et cetera part IS a joke. Thanks for checking, however.

reb, to be quite honest, i think you are being a defensive baby about that whole post. someone says that miss state has a better baseball tradition than ole miss and you go attack their intelligence. if it was wrong, you may have a card to play here, but it is accurate and you cant do anything to refute it except bring intelligence into the conversation. that is intelligence at its highest level, or so you obviously think.

i like many of your posts, but to be quite honest, you are an un-provoked $$$ in some of your posts that i have read(not trying to bring anyone else into this) not regarding myself. if you feel the need to degrade somebody to take up for your institutuion of choice, be my guest. that said, dont try to pass the failures of your universtiy athletics onto another fan as that said fan's lack of intelligence. it is, well..........unintelligent.

now that im done, i do find it a little amusing that someone as dumb as myself can keep someone of your supreme intelligence occupied for an hour or so.

good day.

Actually, I would venture to say this is Ole Miss retaking the state since it's baseball tradition with Coach Swayze began before Mississippi State's. Depends on your timeframe doesn't it.

depending on the time frame you look at, yale is a football powerhouse with as much tradition as notre dame, usc, and alabama.

i will still have to go with state's 7 cws appearances to ole miss'0, state's 24 regionals and state's 38 players in the show(ole miss 30).

probably depends more on which team you root for more than anything else.

Well yes so both points are moot and thus there is no reason to debate it.

I have personal philosophical differences with one of the Miss State players so he's welcome to. Joseph McCaskill can jump off a cliff for all I care.

We can battle it out in the new Steroid...I mean...Palmiero Center behind The Hump.

But seriously, outside of McCaskill, I wish the State team well except when we trounce them again in Jackson for the Mayor's Trophy. This of course be followed up by us trouncing Southern Miss at Trustmark Park for the Governor's Cup thus reasserting ourselves as dominant due to trophy awesomeness.

btw cianne, are they playing the mayor's trophy at the new ms braves park now?

No, the Mayor's Trophy is still at Smith-Wills in Jackson. The new Governor's Cup between Ole Miss and Southern Miss is at Trustmark.

And in regards to McCaskill, I played with him and against him since t-ball. The guy is a certain three letter combination that I "assume" you can figure out.

I step out for a few days and this thread blows up like this.

Argue for my team??? Well you are doing a pretty good job in my absense.

This statement has me scratching my head......" Actually , I would venture to say this is Ole Miss retaking the state since its baseball tradition with Coach Swayze began before Mississippi State's."

I don't recall Ole Miss ever "taking" baseball in Miss. , and they would have to do that first in order to "retake" baseball. MAybe they were better than MSU way back in the 60's , I would have to ask a senior citizen who can remember to know for sure. Anyway , who cares what happened in college athletics back when it was all white players only. All the stats and results from the white only era are meaningless.

Furthermore , I don't believe that Ole Miss has taken baseball from MSU as of now anyway. Yes , they have had a couple of good seasons , but they were fortunate to have 2 of the best players in NCAA baseball in their lineup for the last couple of years , Petteway and Head. Let's see how they do without them now before we claim that Ole Miss has retaken baseball from MSU. It hasn't been that long ago that Bianco was standing next to his "omaha 38" jersey in the visiting dugout at Dudy Noble , watching his team end their season by being swept by Polk.

In fairness , the Rebs are doing better in baseball and Bianco deserves some credit for their improvement. However , He has already had the most talent on one team that he will ever have and still didn't make it to Omaha. I doubt if he will ever get there , if he couldn't do it with Head and Petteway , how will he do it without them?

This statement kinda boggles my mind. I mean, how many black athletes were on the team when Jeff Brantley, Steroid Palmeiro, etc were leading State to greatness? How many were on Texas' national championship team last year?

Your statement holds true in any sport outside of baseball and tennis.

I don't think MSu had any black players on the 85 team , but it isn't like they weren't allowed to compete like it was back in the 60's. There were very few blacks in all of college baseball in the 80s.

Barry Bonds, but it doesn't matter. There really aren't that many today. The statement still stands as ludicrous.

ah yeeeesssss, it will be a fine and glorious year for the Maroon dawgs this year. We will once again play baseball the way Polk wants it to be played . . . get a few men on base and let the big dawgs swat em outta the yard. Coach Polk will most surely have a rather large smile on his face by mid-season. I do believe the swagger will be back and the air will be stirred by the waving of a bulldogs tail(I mean bat). . lol :) :D :) :D
